When the desert runs faster than your dice
In 1986, a board game let miniatures explode on an endless road. Then it disappeared.
Today he's back. More aggressive. Faster. Cinematic.
Welcome to Thunder Road: Vendetta , the adrenaline-fueled board game where three vehicles are never enough and every turn could be your last.
Coming this August to FroGames.it , in its Italian version brought to you by Pendragon Game Studio , this reboot by Restoration Games takes the chaos of the 80s and transforms it into a grindhouse board experience .
From the Dust of Time: The Story Behind the Revenge
Yes, it's all true: Thunder Road was born in 1986 . And no, it wasn't just any game.
It was an avant-pop title that anticipated Mad Max, Mario Kart, Carmageddon and all the games where the steering wheel is a weapon.
Published by Milton Bradley and written by Jim Keifer , it offered a raw and direct experience: run, shoot, survive , on a dashboard that moved with you. A real infinite road , with armed cars and uncontrollable chaos.
A metal-punk experience on the endless road. —
Then, silence. A forgotten cult, until Restoration Games decided it was time to restart the engine .
This is where Justin D. Jacobson , founder of the publishing house and architect of the game resurrections, comes in:
The main thing we do when we approach a game is to ask ourselves:
What is it that everyone loves about this game? What is the soul of the game?
That soul remains . But now you drive on nitro, you explode with style, and you fight with cars, helicopters, and decibels.
The result? Not just a remake, but a love letter to the original chaos , with new rules, graphic novel-style art, and a smoother yet still brutal experience.
What kind of game is Thunder Road: Vendetta, really?
It's a highly interactive post-apocalyptic racing board game where players control a team of three vehicles that must race, destroy, and survive along an endlessly expanding modular road. It's a perfect mix of risk management, plot twists, and light strategy , in a board-style arcade.
The game is for 2-4 players , but with expansions it can increase to 5-6. The duration is between 45 and 75 minutes , but every second is a spark.
Perfect for groups who want direct interaction and entertainment , but also for light evenings without the need to study a tome of rules.
Fire, wheels, and unexpected events: How Thunder Road really works
We don't explain everything to you like a manual, we tell you what it really feels like
- You roll three dice. You have three vehicles. Each die is a choice . You can't do everything. And someone will pay for it.
- You can shoot , ram , drift , call in helicopters , repair damage , and jump over crevasses . But not in that order.
- The road never ends : the board is modular and regenerates as you play.
- The Hazard Tiles ? Wrecked cars, quicksand, and hilarious traps.
- Each vehicle has different characteristics: speed, robustness, targetability .
🎲 The Command Board also lets you use dice for special actions : boosts, evasive maneuvers, targeted attacks. All with streamlined, intuitive rules that are full of variables.
🚁 And yes, there's also a helicopter. But we won't tell you when it arrives.
Expansions as weapons hidden in the trunk
If you want to go beyond survival, here's what awaits you:
- Carnival of Chaos : A post-apocalyptic amusement park. Literally.
- Big Rig & The Final Five : A nightmare truck enters the track.
- Choppe Shoppe : leader, vehicle modifications, upgrades. It's not tuning, it's war.
And we, as Froggers, say: add chaos. But do it with style.
Who's really behind the wheel?
Behind Vendetta are David Chalker and Brett Myers , who reinvented the mechanics and pacing. But the heart remains Jim Keifer , creator of the original, and the strategic mind is that of Justin D. Jacobson .
The art direction is by Marie Bergeron : saturated colors, dirty lines, a look somewhere between pulp and pop art. It's a graphic novel on wheels .
Because everyone loves it (even those who don't know it yet)
- ✅ fast : 45-75 minutes of frenzy.
- ✅ Interactive : You can't help but disturb others. And that's okay.
- ✅ modular : every game changes, each vehicle has its own story.
- ✅ Spectacular : 3D components, chunky dice, flying cars.
In short: it's a cinematic board game . A mix between Mario Kart and Death Race , but with more punch and more brains.
Who do we recommend it to? (Without judging anyone, we swear!)
- For those who want an adrenaline-pumping board game , without downtime
- Seek direct interaction , not solo management
- For those who love the 80s action atmosphere, but without sterile nostalgia
- For those who want a tabletop game that puts on a show without complicating their life.
Get your tires (and your excuses) ready
