🥊 Tag Team – The 2-player board game that feels like an arcade fighting game
Two fighters per side, a deck that follows the script you wrote, Italian edition edited by Asmodee .
In Tag Team you don't just play strong cards: you decide in what order they enter the scene . First you write the “script” of your deck, then you start the round and watch your fighters perform the combo – while on the other side of the table someone does the same to you.
It is a card board game for 2 players that lasts about 20 minutes , Designed for those who want a tense but readable fight, full of special moves and mind-games: rather than playing “against the cards”, you play against your opponent's brain .
💥 It's not your usual card game: it's a tabletop auto-battler
The uniqueness of Tag Team is simple to explain and difficult to master: your deck almost never gets shuffled . The order of the cards is the real battlefield. Each round:
- you prepare the deck in the order you want the hits to come out;
- start the fight and reveal the cards one at a time together with your opponent;
- At the end of the round, insert new cards into specific spots in the deck, without shuffling it.
It's like planning a combo in advance and then seeing if it actually works against the other person's secret plan. You're not looking for the right draw on the last turn: you're building the entire flow of the match .
⚙️ Tag Team in Practice: What You Do at the Table
No wall of rules: this is the flow of a game seen through the eyes of those who play.
1. Choose your duo
Each player chooses a pair from the 12 available fighters . Everyone has a board, a play style and a small personal deck: There are those who hit hard, those who manipulate power, those who protect their partner. This is where your team's identity is born.
2. Pre-set the shift
Before the round you set up your Combat deck : you know what cards are in it, You know what kind of shots they'll make, but the real choice is where to put new ones . Each card you add can end up at the beginning, middle, or end of the “script.”
3. Fight! The deck goes into automatic
You reveal the top card, your opponent does the same, attacks, defenses apply, treatments, shifts of power. Then we move on to the next one. You can only watch the effects chain you've built spin, and hope to have calculated timing and synergies well.
4. Read the life bar
Each fighter has their own Health track with icons and effects: Losing health isn’t just bad – it sometimes unlocks bonus powers or changes the pace of the match. KO is not just “zero blood”: it is the moment when your entire life management proves whether you risked too much or too little.
🎨 Because on the table it explodes like a comic book cover
The first thing that strikes you about Tag Team is the look: bright yellow background, orange explosions, characters that seem to jump straight out of the cover. Naïade 's style mixes anime, superheroes and 90's arcade: It's a competitive board game that immediately becomes an "arena".
It's not just aesthetics: every fighter is recognizable at a glance and the icons on the cards are designed to let you quickly understand who is shooting, who is defending, who empowers the partner. After two rounds you stop reading everything and start “feel” the rhythm of your deck , like in a fighting game where you already know the moves.
