Cosmic Terror and Augmented Reality Investigations: Chronicles of Crime: Eldritch Secrets Revealed
2026 begins with an announcement that will have tabletop detectives shaking their wrists: Lucky Duck Games has officially unveiled the new "Beyond Doubt" trilogy for the award-winning Chronicles of Crime system. Of the three titles announced, the one that's undoubtedly capturing attention is Eldritch Secrets , a dive into the Lovecraftian horrors of the 1920s.
Cosmic Horror Meets Scan & Play Technology
Forget contemporary London or medieval Paris. In Eldritch Secrets , players will be transported to the foggy streets of Arkham and the dark halls of Miskatonic University. The premise is classic yet compelling: investigating forgotten cults, alien artifacts, and mysterious disappearances. However, it's the gameplay that promises a true evolution.
Unlike previous installments where you played as a single investigator, Eldritch Secrets introduces a team management mechanic. Players will have to recruit and swap characters with unique abilities (from the authority of a policeman to the arcane knowledge of an archaeologist) to overcome specific obstacles.
The Mechanics of Madness
The real innovation, thematically perfect, is the introduction of Sanity Tokens . Every encounter with the unspeakable or terrifying vision in the VR scenes (accessible via the dedicated app) will test your investigators' minds to the limit. If a character accumulates too many tokens, they'll slide into madness, becoming useless for the rest of the investigation. This adds a layer of tension and resource management never before seen in the series.
The "Beyond Doubt" Trilogy
While Eldritch Secrets is the dark star of the announcement, the trilogy includes two other intriguing titles slated for 2026:
- Cryptid Cases: An X-Files-style adventure where FBI agents investigate legendary monsters and folklore, featuring a DNA analysis mechanic and scientific tools.
- Courtroom Justice: A legal drama that takes the action from the crime scene to the courtroom, focusing on lawyers and juries.
With the app’s increasingly sophisticated integration of narration, music, and 3D scenes, Lucky Duck Games looks poised to once again redefine the hybrid detective game genre.
