D&D Meets Romance: "The Feywild Job" Announced
Wizards of the Coast and Random House Worlds have officially unveiled The Feywild Job , a new novel that marks an interesting turning point for the Dungeons & Dragons franchise: the official entry into the popular subgenre of Romantasy .
A Heist in the Feywild Between Magic and Feelings
Written by award-winning author CL Polk (winner of the World Fantasy Award for Witchmark and the Nebula Award), the book promises to mix the classic dynamics of a fantasy heist with the trope of "cozy fantasy romance."
The plot follows Saeldian , a thief and con artist who made a peculiar magical pact: he was granted powerful abilities in exchange for a promise to never fall in love again. Saeldian lives a life without strings attached until a mysterious patron offers him an indispensable job: stealing a gem known as "The Kiss of Enduring Love" from the Feywild.
The heist is complicated when Saeldian discovers that her partner on the mission is Kell , a charming bard and her ex, whom she left on bad terms years ago. The two must navigate high-society fey parties and what's described as "couples therapy in the Feywild," while rekindling old flames and discovering that the gem holds dangers far greater than they imagined.
Why is this important news?
Although D&D novels have been around for decades (just think of the Drizzt saga), The Feywild Job appears to be the first serious attempt to capture the BookTok audience and the Romantasy phenomenon, made famous by series like A Court of Thorns and Roses . The choice of an author of CL Polk's caliber suggests that the initiative is focused on literary quality as well as branding.
The English release is scheduled for June 30, 2026. There's no news yet on an immediate Italian translation, but given the genre's trend, it's likely to hit our shelves in the future.
