The FroGames Sheet
You roll, you combine, you advance. You reach the top. Someone pushes you down. You roll again, unlock a new power, the mountain changes shape under your hooves. And in the next mission, everything will be different.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
A mountain race that evolves, mission after mission
Mountain Goats: Legacy starts from the original game by **Alex Cutler, Michael Mihealsick and Stefan Risthaus**, published by **Allplay** and which became one of their best-sellers with hundreds of thousands of copies played. This legacy version maintains the light approach: 25-minute sessions, perfect for a lunch break or a weekday evening, so you can really finish the campaign. Artist **Sandara Tang** returns with the illustrations.
Each turn you roll and combine dice to climb the mountain. You reach the top, score points, but be careful not to be pushed down. As the story progresses, you unlock special abilities and face tougher challenges. The mountain itself can transform under your hooves. The goat symbol on the dice activates powers that change every mission: no two sessions will be identical. There's also a system called Courage that heavily influences how you manage your rolls.

It has all the mystery and surprise of a great legacy game
— Allplay
This is a newly released game, funded on Kickstarter in January 2026 with over 8,000 backers. We are playing the campaign to truly evaluate it: this sheet is based on the first reading of the rules and available previews. We will update it with the full verdict later.

Mountain Goats: Legacy
What you find in the box
Components that are revealed mission after mission
Custom Dice
In addition to the classic numbered dice, there's the goat symbol that activates special powers. Every roll can unlock something new.
Modular Mountains
Built with cards, the mountain grows on the table and can transform during the campaign. What you climb today might not exist tomorrow.
Goat Meeples
Each player has their own goats to move up and down the peaks. Goatee detail included, because even meeples deserve style.
Legacy Content
Unlockable abilities, increasing challenges, secrets to discover. All resettable: nothing is torn, nothing is thrown away, the campaign can be replayed.

How to play
The flow of each turn
A turn is fast, direct, almost instinctive. You roll, you decide, you advance.
Take four dice and roll them. Look at the numbers, see if there's a goat symbol.
Divide the dice into groups (even single ones). Each group must sum to at least 5. The sum determines which mountain you advance on.
Each group advances you one space on the corresponding track. If you reach the summit, take the point token. If someone is already there, you knock them off.
If you rolled the goat symbol, consult the power of the current mission and apply it. It can change the entire turn.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The first climb
You open the box, unroll the mountain cards, take the dice. The basic rules are those of classic Mountain Goats: you roll four dice, group them by sum, and advance on the corresponding tracks. In **15 minutes you're already playing**. The first mission is a taste.
The first goat symbol
Someone rolls the goat symbol. They look around. What do they do? You open the envelope, read the power of the current mission. Maybe you can re-roll a die, or move an opponent's goat. Powers rotate every mission: what works today might be gone tomorrow.
True King of the Hill
You're at the summit of the 12 mountain. You score points every turn you stay there. Then she arrives, rolls exactly 12, and pushes you down. You return to the base, and the climb begins again. It's not malice: it's the game. And next time, your revenge will be yours.
The unlock
Mission complete. You open the next envelope. New rules, new components, maybe the mountain changes shape. Someone reads aloud, the others wait impatiently. The game evolves before your eyes, and you with it.
The end of the campaign
Last mission. You count the final points, find out who dominated the peaks. Someone asks: can I play it again? Yes, you can: everything resets. But in the meantime, that campaign is yours, with its gags, plot twists, impossible rolls. And the next one will be different.

Good to know beforehand
Three things you need to know
You depend on the dice
You can combine them however you want, but if you roll badly, you roll badly. The Courage system helps, but it doesn't eliminate luck. If you hate games where a bad roll changes everything, this isn't for you.
It's not a brutal legacy
No torn components, no permanent choices that haunt you. Everything is resettable. For some, this is a plus (you replay it), for others a minus (less emotional weight). It depends on what you're looking for.
Short games, long campaign
Each session lasts 20-45 minutes, but the campaign requires several. If you want a legacy game for a single marathon weekend, it won't work. If you want something to play in installments, it's perfect.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Each game ends in one of the following ways, then points are counted.
End game conditions
- All bonus tokens (for a complete set of mountains) have been taken
- Three different mountains have run out of all their point tokens
- The current mission has a specific end condition (revealed during the campaign)
How you get eliminated
- You are never eliminated: even if you are knocked off the peaks, you remain in the game
- At the end of the game, the player with the most points from collected tokens wins
- During the campaign, additional challenges may emerge that penalize those who fall behind
A legacy that you actually finish, with powers that change every time and no components to destroy. Also suitable for younger players, but with enough surprises to keep adults glued to the game.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Mountain Goats: Legacy
Is it suitable for those who have never played a legacy game?
Yes. It is designed to be the first legacy game for many families: light rules, no components to tear, short sessions. If classic Mountain Goats seems accessible to you, this is just as much so.
How many games does the campaign last?
It is not officially stated, but sources speak of multiple missions with powers and challenges that change every time. Considering sessions of 20-45 minutes, it's a legacy game that you can finish in a few weeks by playing in installments, not in a weekend.
Can I play a single game without a campaign?
Yes, the official description says it can be played as both a single session and a legacy game. The first mission is also compatible with the original Mountain Goats.
What mechanics does Mountain Goats: Legacy use?
Dice rolling, set collection (combining dice into groups), king of the hill (controlling peaks), race (race to the top), track movement (movement on tracks), legacy game (campaign progression).
Is it available in Italian?
The currently available edition is in English. The game is largely language-independent (dice, mountains, movement), but power cards and mission instructions require reading. Recommended age 7+, assess whether the English level is suitable for your group.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
