Each turn is a weighty choice: playing a clan card means activating its wheel and triggering a chain reaction capable of overturning the balance. Build your deck, influence rival houses, and move your power pawns cunningly. The throne of Japan is vacant
In Genpei, five powerful houses decide the future of the Empire. Each player represents a noble family scheming to gain the support of the clans and win the Emperor's favor, ultimately becoming the new ruler of Japan.
The Power of Clan Cards
Each turn, you play one of the two cards in your hand: if it's a clan card, you activate the corresponding token on that clan's wheel, moving it to an adjacent space and performing the indicated action. Each move affects delicate balances and opens up new tactical possibilities.
Chains of actions and plot twists
The most original mechanic is chained actions: if you draw a new card as a result of an action, that clan's token is also immediately activated, allowing you to chain together multiple moves in the same turn. This system makes the game dynamic and unpredictable.
Influence and control of the houses
By placing influence tokens on clans, you try to gain the support of the houses that dominate the territories. Gaining a temporary advantage isn't enough: you must consolidate your influence to withstand your opponents' attacks and ensure lasting consensus.
The Fight for the Empire
The game ends when it is determined which player controls the most houses, including the Imperial House. Only the player who has built the most effective action chains and amassed the most support will be able to sit on the throne and proclaim themselves the new Emperor.

The throne is vacant, and the winds of change blow through the cherry trees. In a Japan divided between five silently warring houses, your every move affects the fate of the Empire .
In Genpei , you are an invisible puppeteer, a hidden advisor who moves the clans' fortunes with chained actions, clan cards, and a refined wheel system . Every decision can bring you closer to imperial favor… or cause you to lose the families' support.
Simple in its rules but deep and sharp in its strategy , Genpei is a challenge of subtle control, of timing, of vision.
Here it is not enough to play well: you have to get into the minds of others .
A game of influence and chained actions with washers and houses to dominate
Genpei is a strategic board game for 1-4 players , set in an imaginary feudal Japan, where only those who can gain the favor of the most powerful houses will win .
Each turn involves choosing between two cards, which activate a specific wheel for the represented clan. From there, a chain of actions begins, which can lead to drawing additional cards, activating additional clans, and placing influence tokens in territories.
Whoever dominates the most clans – including the imperial court – at the end of the game, obtains the supreme title.
Genpei impresses with its immediate accessibility , but surprises with the depth that reveals itself after just a few games . Perfect for those who love area-control games without direct combat , with an elegant and highly original system.

Genpei amazed us with his ability to combine elegance and tension , like an ikebana built over a set trap.
The wheel system is intuitive yet nuanced, and the clan activation combos provide the strategic thrill we love .
There is no open war, but a subtle game of psychological domination and mind mapping.
It works well in solo play, but with 3 or 4 players it becomes a duel of brains .
A title we recommend to those who love intelligent area control games , with quick setup, simple rules, and a deep heart. The production is beautiful, the mechanical twist is very strong.
