A eurogame with your head in the stars (and your feet on the board)
Daniele Tascini returns to the spotlight, and this time, he's taking us straight beyond Earth's orbit. Transgalactica is his new board game from Devir, and it promises to let us pilot interstellar fleets with the precision of an engineer and the vision of a galactic senator. If you like challenging Eurogames but don't want to give up the allure of a space adventure... we've just presented you with your new problem.
Why is it called that?
"Transgalactica" isn't just a name for show. It's got it all: the sense of expansion, the idea of crossing stellar boundaries, the human (and galactic) need to push ever further. And lo and behold, in the game, it's the Galactic Senate itself that asks you to do so with the infamous "Transgalactica Decree."
Spoiler: You don't refuse an order from the Senate.
It's not just space, it's politics (with miniatures)
No aliens with antennas: this is a tough game. You command a fleet, choose how to manage your Captains, follow trade routes, and try to earn the Senate's respect. But be careful: every move you make affects everyone else. In Transgalactica , the table is a subtle battlefield of decisions, timing, and... dirty looks.
The mechanics? The right ones (without any bloat).
- Asymmetrical worker placement
- Building your own strategic engine
- Highly tactical interaction
- High replayability with unique powers
No, you don't have to read a 40-page manual to figure this out. But expect significant decisions and a fair amount of "Okay, I didn't see that coming."
Yes, it's also nice to look at
The artwork by Edu Valls (the one from Bitoku , to be clear) makes the game soar visually too. Elegant boards, vibrant colors, and a design that makes you say, "Yeah, okay, now I want to play it just for the look of it." But trust me, there's a lot beneath the surface.
Tascini's "Ts": one author, one signature
Those who know Tascini know that his resume seems to have been lifted from a Eurogame encyclopedia: Teotihuacan , Tzolk'in , Trismegistus , Tekhenu , Tiletum ... all with a T, all with historical settings strongly integrated into the mechanics. Transgalactica is therefore a turning point: the first true excursion into space, far from the historical and mythological roots that made its design famous. But the precision, resource management, and multilevel progression are all there, solid as ever.
Why space now? The change of direction
Science fiction, until recently, was not Tascini's domain. And that's precisely why it's surprising. At a time when many designers are embracing familiar or fantasy themes, Tascini chooses to change galaxy —literally. Why? Perhaps to tell the story of the same political conflict and the same thirst for power... but with new, limitless scenarios. Transgalactica isn't about spaceships: it's about those who decide where they should go.
Transgalactica in the panorama of sci-fi eurogames
It's hard not to draw comparisons. Beyond the Sun showed that science fiction can have incredible mechanical depth. Gaia Project is a colossus. Voidfall is one of the richest abstract games in space. But Transgalactica stands out: more direct, more playable, less cold . You don't need a degree in astrophysics to understand it, but you'll have to work hard to win. It's a sci-fi that puts strategy first and then the setting, without sacrificing atmosphere.
Because you can find it on Frogames.it (and not on a distant planet)

Space questions? Earthly answers:
Who is Daniele Tascini?
A gentleman who, when he designs a game, has half of Italian gamers lining up. He's designed titles like Tzolk'in , Teotihuacan , and Marco Polo .
Is it complicated?
It's Tascini. So yes, but in the right way. If you like challenges that make you say, "Just one more game and I'll dominate this time," we're here.
When will it be available?
From June 13, 2025, with an Italian language edition thanks to Devir.
Is it only for experts?
No, but if you only play Uno , maybe it's time to take a quantum leap.
Last note from frog
In a spacescape crowded with miniatures and empty promises, Transgalactica is one of those games that makes you want to actually read the rules. Because behind every planet lies an opportunity, and behind every turn... a brilliant plan.
If you're looking for a trip that's anything but casual, you've found it.
