🐸 HOW TO PLAY
1. The 17th century Caribbean is not for the faint of heart.
In Pax Hispanica, you play an ambitious adventurer—Spanish, English, French, Dutch, or Courlandish—determined to make your mark on seas infested with pirates and corruption. You can choose to serve the crown, sabotage it, or become legendary as a privateer. Every game is a different story, and every choice changes the fate of the New World.
2. A market full of intrigue and opportunity.
The heart of the game is the Pax system : a card marketplace from which you can purchase events, ships, ports, relics, and characters. The cards build your personal tableau , your network of power. Purchases are made through blind auctions , where everyone secretly invests their loot to gain the necessary influence... or the right low blow at the right time.
3. Four careers, four paths to glory.
You can win as a courtier (gathering influence at court), a liberator (leading colonies to rebellion), a pirate (plundering and becoming a terror of the seas), or a merchant (dominating illegal trade). Each path has different mechanics and victory conditions, making the game deeply asymmetrical and highly replayable.
4. Ships, ambushes and betrayals.
Fleets sail the Caribbean, and every turn can turn into a naval war, a shady deal, or an opportunity to swindle another player. You can transport treasures , intercept shipments , smuggle relics on the black market , or foment revolts. Anything goes, as long as it serves your goals.
