The Shadow Paladin warps the hallways. The Armored Knight seeks vengeance. Skeletons multiply their strategies. And at the end of setup, everyone plays a different game from each other.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
An expansion that doubles the asymmetrical possibilities of the Manor
Patrick Leder returns to the Vast universe with an expansion that introduces two radically different new roles: the Shadow Paladin, a cursed monster that warps the Manor's rooms like a living labyrinth, and the Armored Knight, who faces even more dangerous foes. Illustrations by Kyle Ferrin accompany over forty detailed miniatures and new skeletons with unique powers, almost doubling the strategic options available.
At the table, everyone literally plays a different game. The Paladin manipulates the Manor's geometry to trap opponents. The Knight seeks equipment and glory. Skeletons gain new powers and tactics. Cross-compatibility rules allow every role to also be used in Vast: The Crystal Caverns, exponentially multiplying the possible combinations.
What they're saying abroad
The Haunted Hallways is not just an expansion: it's the Vast Manor finally breathing as much as the Cavern.
— FroGames
Each faction in Vast plays by unique rules. The Haunted Hallways takes this asymmetry to the next level.

What you find in the Manor
The pieces that transform every game
Shadow Paladin
A cursed role that warps the Manor's rooms like a mad architect. Every move you make redraws the map beneath your opponents' feet.
Armored Knight
Returns in a new adventure with unprecedented equipment and deadlier enemies. Each combat is a tactical puzzle to solve.
Powered-up Skeletons
New powers and strategic options almost double the available tactics. Every game with skeletons becomes a different game.
Over 40 miniatures
Walls of force, treasures, eggs, cobwebs: detailed components that make the Manor alive and tactile. Every piece tells a story.
In a few hours, you'll realize you didn't play the same game as the others. It always happens with Vast.

📜 REGOLAMENTO
A game in five acts
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Asymmetrical Setup
Everyone prepares their role. The Paladin places their invisible walls, the Knight chooses initial equipment, the Skeletons position themselves strategically. Right from setup, everyone sees the Manor differently.
The First Moves
The Paladin begins to distort the corridors, creating mazes where there were once linear passages. The Knight explores cautiously. The Skeletons begin to multiply. No one yet knows what the others are truly doing.
Divergent Objectives
Mid-game, asymmetrical tension emerges: each faction pursues completely different victories. The Paladin wants to trap, the Knight seeks glory, the Skeletons accumulate power. Every turn is a puzzle against alien systems.
The Impossible Moment
Someone makes a move that seemed impossible. A corridor closes at a critical moment. A treasure changes owner. A skeleton activates a power that flips everything. The table pauses for a moment to process.
Parallel Victories
The game ends, and everyone has played a different story. Did the Paladin win by deforming the Manor? Did the Knight complete his quest? Did the Skeletons dominate the space? It takes five minutes just to figure out who really won.
How to play
The flow of each turn
Each role has unique phases and actions, but the general rhythm maintains a shared structure.
Each player performs actions specific to their role. The Paladin manipulates rooms, the Knight moves and fights, the Skeletons summon reinforcements or activate powers.
Cards are played, action points are spent, abilities are activated. Each faction uses its own mechanics: mana, equipment cards, energy tokens.
The effects of actions propagate across the shared Manor. Combat, board modifications, trap activations. Factions indirectly influence each other.
Everyone checks progress towards their own victory condition. The Paladin verifies the labyrinth, the Knight collects glory, the Skeletons consolidate their dominance.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make a difference
Total Asymmetry
It's not about different abilities on the same engine. Each role has its own rules, objectives, and mechanics. The Paladin plays a spatial puzzle, the Knight a tactical adventure, the Skeletons a territory control strategic game. Three games in one.
Dynamic Manor
The modular board is not just aesthetic: the Paladin actively distorts the geometry of the Manor during the game. Corridors close, rooms shift, paths become labyrinths. The map is a weapon.
Evolved Skeletons
The expansion introduces new types of skeletons with unique powers and equipment options. It nearly doubles the strategic possibilities of the faction, making it deeper and less predictable than the base game.
Armored Knight
An adventurous role with a tactical combat system and equipment management. Every encounter requires planning: equip the right weapon, activate the ability at the perfect moment, accumulate glory to unlock upgrades.
Cross-Compatibility
The rules allow you to use the roles from The Haunted Hallways in Vast: The Crystal Caverns and vice versa. Paladin against Dragon, Armored Knight in the Cavern, empowered Skeletons everywhere. The combinations become exponential.
Premium Components
Over forty detailed miniatures: force walls, treasures, eggs, cobwebs. Every component has mechanical function and scenic presence. The Manor comes alive physically on the table, not just narratively.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Each faction has unique and asymmetrical victory conditions.
Victory
- Shadow Paladin: trap opponents in the labyrinth you've created
- Armored Knight: complete your heroic quest by collecting enough glory
- Skeletons: dominate the Manor through territory control and evolved powers
Elimination or defeat
- The Paladin loses if exorcised or if their labyrinth collapses
- The Knight is eliminated if they lose all health points in combat
- The Skeletons lose if reduced below critical mass or isolated
The Haunted Hallways is for those who want to push asymmetry beyond all limits. Three different games at the same table, hundreds of combinations, a Manor that lives and breathes.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Vast: The Haunted Hallways - Expansion (EN)
Is Vast: The Crystal Caverns required to play?
No, The Haunted Hallways is technically playable standalone, but cross-compatibility is the real added value. If you own Crystal Caverns, you can mix roles from the two boxes for infinite combinations. If you don't own it, this expansion still offers two new roles and empowered skeletons.
How complex is it to explain the new roles?
Each role requires 15-20 minutes of separate explanation. The Paladin has complex spatial manipulation mechanics, the Knight a tactical combat system, the Skeletons new powers to master. It's not an expansion to teach on the fly: it requires prior study.
Does it work well at all player counts?
Vast scales from 1 to 5 players, but the experience changes radically. At 2-3 players it's more tactical and controllable. At 4-5 it becomes chaotic and unpredictable. Solo play uses AI rules for opponents. Each count offers a different but valid experience.
Which roles should be combined to start?
For the first game with the expansion, try Paladin + Knight + a set of Skeletons. Avoid mixing with Crystal Caverns right away: master the new roles separately first. Cross-compatibility is powerful but adds exponential complexity.
Is it available in Italian?
No, The Haunted Hallways is only available in English edition. Language dependency is medium-high: it requires reading ability cards, equipment, and victory conditions. Recommended for groups with good understanding of English or willing to prepare translated references.
Vast: The Haunted Hallways is an asymmetrical expansion for 1-5 players, 60-120 minutes, ages 13+, designed by Patrick Leder and illustrated by Kyle Ferrin for Leder Games. The Skeletons gain new powers and strategies, almost doubling game options. Cross-compatibility rules allow combining roles with Vast: The Crystal Caverns for hundreds of different setups. Each faction has unique mechanics, objectives, and victory conditions: three completely different games at the same table. Available on FroGames.it.
