The FroGames Review
Cardboard coins slide across the table. Metal ones fall with a clatter that lets you know just how much that choice costs. And by the third round, you won't trade yours for anything.
WHAT IT IS
The weight of money in the palm of your hand
These 45 metal coins were designed by Stonemaier Games for Vantage, featuring four zinc denominations: $1 (x18), $2 (x12), $5 (x9), and $10 (x6). One pack amply covers the needs of a full 6-player game.
Heavy, well-printed, and gorgeous to look at. They produce a characteristic sound when handled and have an excellent presence on the table. They work perfectly to make any D&D, RPG, board game, or sci-fi tabletop game more tactile and exciting.

"Heavy, well printed, and gorgeous metal coins"
Heavy, well-printed, and gorgeous metal coins
— Stonemaier Games
A simple yet decisive upgrade: the tactile weight of the coins changes the rhythm of the game. You stop thinking of tokens as abstract score counters and start feeling the cost of your choices. It applies to Vantage, but also to any other sci-fi game that needs concrete credits.

Vantage: Metal Coins
What you'll find in the box
Four denominations, one material
$1 — copper
18 copper-colored coins, the most numerous. Used for minor transactions and basic purchases during exploration.
$2 — silver
12 silver-colored coins. The mid-range denomination used most often: enough to make meaningful choices without emptying your purse.
$5 — metallic blue
9 metallic blue coins. The unusual color makes them immediately recognizable: when you see them on the table, you know a big move is coming.
$10 — gold
6 golden coins. The least common, used only when it truly matters. Same image on both sides, with engraved details that are clear even to the touch.
🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How they work
Usage flow
They aren't complicated: they replace the cardboard tokens from the base game and work the same way, only better.
One pack comfortably covers the needs of a full 6-player game. At the start, each player receives their coin allocation according to the rules of Vantage (or the game you are using).
During the game, coins are exchanged, earned, and spent. The four denominations (copper, silver, metallic blue, gold) make it immediate to recognize the value: you don't have to count, you see the color and know what it's worth.
When you need to make change or consolidate small coins into larger denominations, the tactile weight makes the operation more natural. Real coins are easier to count than chips: they slide through your fingers and stack stably.
Once the game is over, the coins go back into the pack (or a dedicated bag if you prefer). Zinc is durable: they last for hundreds of games without scratches, discoloration, or loss of engraved details.

An upgrade in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup
You open the pack and pour them onto the table. The sound is different from cardboard tokens: heavier, more serious. You divide the four colors by denomination, and everyone takes their stash. The coins have real weight, and you can feel it.
First transaction
The first player exchanges three $1 coins for one $5 coin. They aren't moving tokens, they are pouring metal. The sound on the table draws the attention of the others. Economic choices become more concrete: you aren't moving numbers, you are moving money.
Economic tension
Midway through the game, the table is full of stacks of coins. Someone has accumulated gold, someone else only has copper left. Looking at other players' stashes becomes tactile information: you see how much they can afford, how vulnerable they are.
The decisive spend
A player pushes all their gold coins into the center of the table. The movement is slower with real coins, heavier. Every choice costs something physical, not just numerical. Everyone understands it's an all-in move without needing explanations.
End of game
The coins go back into the box. They are heavy, they jingle, they take up space. You put them away carefully because you know you'll want to use them again in the next game. The cardboard tokens stay in the base box: once you've tried metal, you don't go back.

Three honest things
You need Vantage or a compatible game
The coins are designed specifically for Vantage (the base game includes cardboard tokens). They work great with any other sci-fi title that uses currency, but if you don't already have Vantage or a game that manages money, these coins on their own don't do anything.
Significant weight
The coins are heavy and have a wonderful texture. This is a pro at the table but a detail to consider for transport and storage: 45 zinc coins take up space and weigh more than cardboard tokens. They aren't a problem in the Vantage box, but if you travel light, consider if you really need them.
They don't change the rules
The coins are an aesthetic and tactile upgrade, not a mechanical one. The game plays identically with cardboard tokens. If you are looking for expansions, variants, or new content, these aren't it: they are just nicer, heavier components. The impact is on the sensory experience, not the gameplay.

What really changes
Before and after the upgrade
The coins don't alter the mechanics, but they change how you perceive economic transactions in the game.
With metal coins
- Economic transactions become physical moments: the weight of the metal makes every exchange more memorable
- The four metallic colors make it immediate to recognize denominations, reducing errors and downtime
- The aesthetic and tactile impact on the table increases immersion: you aren't moving markers, you are handling currency
With cardboard tokens
- Tokens are functional but anonymous: they count as abstract numbers, not physical money
- Lighter and less distinctive, they require more attention to avoid confusion between denominations
- No tactile feedback: the metallic sound and the feeling of weight that makes economic choices more concrete are missing
They have a unique futuristic look, and the weight creates an authentic immersive experience. They give the look and feel of real metal coins or credits. The upgrade isn't mandatory, but once you've tried it, you won't go back.

FAQ about Vantage: Metal Coins
Do these coins completely replace the Vantage tokens?
Yes, one pack comfortably covers the needs of a full 6-player game. The four denominations ($1, $2, $5, $10) exactly replicate the values of the cardboard tokens in the base game. You can easily leave the tokens in the box and use only the metal coins.
Can I use them with other games besides Vantage?
Absolutely: they work perfectly to make any D&D, RPG, tabletop, or sci-fi board game more tactile and exciting. The denominations are standard (1, 2, 5, 10) and the futuristic aesthetic fits any space or tech setting. Some players even use them for Terraforming Mars or Star Wars Unlimited.
Are the coins really heavier than the tokens?
Yes: they are heavy, with a wonderful texture and a great feel. Zinc is a dense material, so every coin has a real physical presence. This improves immersion but also means they take up more space and weigh more during transport compared to cardboard tokens.
Are the four colors easily distinguishable at the table?
Yes. There are 18 copper-colored $1 coins, 12 silver-colored $2 coins, 9 metallic blue $5 coins, and 6 golden $10 coins. The metallic blue of the $5 coins is particularly distinctive: even in indirect light or at a crowded table, you won't confuse denominations. Each coin has the same image on both sides.
Is it available in Italian?
The coins are language-independent: they have no text, just numerical values ($1, $2, $5, $10) and engraved artwork. They work with any edition of Vantage or any compatible game, regardless of language.
