In this new edition, you'll find random hazards like rubble, oil slicks, and other obstacles, while damage tokens can cause unexpected effects that change the course of the game!
Thunder Road: Vendetta is pure explosive fun for high-octane evenings with friends, perfect for those looking for a fast-paced, engaging and no-holds-barred action game.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
All aboard, engines started
Cars distributed, board set up, dice rolled. Everyone already has a plan. Everyone already knows who they want to eliminate first. The game hasn't even started, and the table is already tense.
The first ramming
Someone hits the nitro, someone sends the helicopter. Then the first impact happens — a car flies off the road, the damage token is flipped, and something unexpected occurs. Laughter already erupts.
The board advances and someone falls behind
The rearmost tile is removed. Anyone on it is out. The game speeds up, the board narrows, options decrease. Every die now counts twice as much. Breaths become shallow.
The move no one will forget
There's always a moment in every game of Thunder Road. A chain collision, a helicopter taking down three cars in one turn, a damage token sending a car backward. The table explodes. That story is told for months.
Someone crosses the finish line. Or survives.
The game ends. Someone wins, everyone else has already forgotten the result — they're still talking about that move on lap three. Everything is packed away, wondering when they'll play again.
How to play
The flow of each round
Four quick phases that repeat. You learn in ten minutes, master in three games.
Each player rolls 4 movement dice. The first player also rolls the Road FX die, which adds a speed bonus for those who stay on the asphalt.
In turn order, each player assigns one die at a time: move a car, shoot, repair damage, use nitro, or send the helicopter.
Cars advance, dodge dangers, ram each other. Two damages and a car is out of commission — until it's repaired.
When a car leaves the last visible tile, a new one is added in front — the rearmost one disappears, eliminating any remaining cars.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make the difference
Advancing and eliminating board
There's no safe position. The path renews every turn, and those who fall behind are automatically eliminated. The pressure never lets up.
Dice to assign, not to suffer
The dice roll doesn't decide for you — it opens up options. Choose where to place each die for speed, attack, repair, and nitro. This is where you win or lose.
Damage tokens with unique effects
Every damage is a different story: engine on fire, sudden oversteer, chain explosion. Pain can become an advantage within a turn.
The helicopter ignores everything
Flies over cars, obstacles, and lane boundaries. Shoots wherever you want. It's the most spectacular move in the game — and the one that generates the most revenge at the table.
Elimination that speeds up the ending
With 3-4 players, the finish line only appears after the first elimination. Until then, everyone attacks everyone — and if you lose one car, you can't afford to lose another.
40 years of history, modern design
Thunder Road was born in 1986. Restoration Games retains its chaotic soul by removing rules that aged poorly. The result is the game it was — but better.
How it ends
Two ways to win, one way to exit
You don't necessarily have to finish first — you can also be the last survivor. The strategy changes depending on where you are in the race.
Victory
- Be the first to cross the finish line with at least one of your cars
- Or be the only player left with functional cars
- In 3–4 players, the finish line only appears after the first elimination
Elimination
- All your cars are destroyed or put out of commission
- One of your cars is dragged off the rearmost tile
- No re-entries — you're left to watch, but usually not for long
Thunder Road: Vendetta is one of the most acclaimed racing games of recent years. Quick to learn, impossible to forget.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Thunder Road: Vendetta
What distinguishes it from other racing games?
The advancing board that eliminates those who fall behind, damage tokens with ever-changing effects, and the helicopter that ignores any obstacle. No other racing game combines these three elements. The result is a game where you plan, laugh, and get angry all in the same turn.
Is it worth it compared to the original Thunder Road from 1986?
Yes. Restoration Games has preserved the chaotic and competitive soul of the original by removing rules that aged poorly. The new version is more balanced, faster, and visually much more refined. Those who played the original immediately recognize it — and prefer it.
Is it suitable for casual players?
Yes. The rules are explained in about 15 minutes, and the first game flows naturally. The chaos levels the playing field a lot — casual players are not as disadvantaged as in other games, because unpredictability is part of the design.
How many players does it work best with?
With 4 players, you get the most chaotic and fun experience — everyone attacks everyone, and every turn is a story. With 2, it's more tactical and faster. With 3, you find a good balance. It works in all cases, but with 4 players, it's the game the designers had in mind.
Are there expansions?
Yes, several. Big Rig and the Final 5, Carnage at Devil's Run, and Choppe Shoppe add new vehicles, scenarios, and mechanics without overhauling the base game. The base game is already complete — the expansions amplify the chaos for those who want more.
Is it available in Italian?
This is the English edition. The rules are simple and visual — you don't need to know English to play, but keep in mind that texts and cards are in English.
