What it's about
Build the most spectacular animal park on the table
In Spectacular, you are the curator of a park for vulnerable species. Tile after tile, you arrange habitats of the same color and feed the animals with dice, while trying to grow and reproduce each environment. Designed by Eilif and Åsmund Svensson, illustrations by Gjermund Bohne, published by Chilifox Games.
Each turn you choose two elements — a tile or a die from your personal reserve, and one from the supply board that circulates among players. The game is simultaneous: no one waits, everyone builds together. But that board, when passed to a neighbor, takes away what you decided not to take.
Closing circles for watchtowers, breeding animals with the right dice, collecting as many species as possible: there are many paths to points, and rarely does a single move serve them all. This is where the small, sweet torment of Spectacular arises.

The ingredients of your park
Animal Tiles
Colored hexagons to interlock for habitats. Each color is a different environment to grow and connect.
Colored Food Dice
Dice feed the animals, but the value only counts if it lands on a tile of the same color.
Watchtowers
Close a circle of three tiles and a tower appears: it scores points for all three dice surrounding it.
18 Mission Tiles
Optional objectives that increase your score and the challenge when you're ready to complicate things.
In twenty minutes, the table will be full of colorful parks — and someone will immediately ask for another game. It always happens with Spectacular.

Tre tessere, otto dadi, un parco vuoto
Ognuno apre la propria scatolina di animali, lancia i dadi e dispone le prime tessere. Davanti a te solo esagoni vuoti e un'idea: che parco vuoi costruire? Tutti partono insieme, in silenzio, già concentrati.
La prima scelta che ti fa sudare
Devi prendere due cose: una dalla tua riserva, una dalla plancia condivisa. Quel dado verde perfetto o quella tessera famiglia che non tornerà? Decidi, costruisci — e già intravedi tre piani diversi.
Le plance girano e qualcuno ti ruba il dado
La plancia di rifornimento passa al vicino. Quel pezzo che avevi adocchiato per il prossimo giro? Sparito. Ogni turno ti costringe a guardare cosa lasci agli altri — e cosa loro lasciano a te.
Giro di boa: chi arriva all'ingresso?
Finito il primo round si conta. Solo i dadi collegati all'ingresso del parco fanno punti. Chi ha costruito verso l'entrata sorride, chi l'ha ignorata fa un rapido calcolo e cambia strategia per il secondo round.
Conta gli animali, alza le torri, vinci
Punteggio finale: habitat, torri di guardia, specie diverse, missioni. Si confrontano i parchi, si scopre chi ha incastrato meglio. E mentre si rimette tutto nelle scatoline, qualcuno sta già rimescolando per la rivincita.
Come si gioca
Il flusso di ogni turno
Quattro gesti che si ripetono in modo simultaneo. Si impara in quindici minuti, si gioca senza quasi mai aspettare.
Prendi una tessera o un dado dalla tua riserva personale e uno dalla plancia di rifornimento condivisa che gira al tavolo.
Piazzi le tessere su qualsiasi esagono libero (nessun vincolo di adiacenza) e appoggi i dadi solo su tessere dello stesso colore.
Le tessere famiglia accettano solo dadi 1 o 2; chiudere un cerchio di tre tessere dello stesso colore costruisce una torre di guardia.
La plancia di rifornimento passa al giocatore alla tua sinistra e peschi una nuova tessera personale. Si ricomincia.

Sei cose che fanno la differenza
Gioco simultaneo, zero attese
Tutti scelgono e costruiscono nello stesso momento: anche in sei al tavolo il downtime è quasi inesistente e la partita vola.
Dadi come cibo, colori come regola
I dadi nutrono gli animali ma solo sul colore giusto. Ogni piazzamento è un piccolo incastro tra valore, colore e spazio.
Torri di guardia che moltiplicano
Chiudi un cerchio di tre tessere e nasce una torre: fa punti per tutti e tre i dadi adiacenti. Costruire bene ripaga il doppio.
Il draft a rotazione
Le plance girano tra i giocatori: quello che lasci oggi potrebbe sparire prima che torni da te. Interazione discreta ma costante.
18 missioni per alzare l'asticella
Dopo qualche partita aggiungi tre missioni: più punti possibili, ma anche un puzzle decisamente più tosto da risolvere.
Più specie, più punti
Collezionare animali diversi vale sempre di più: la varietà premia in modo crescente e spinge a non chiudersi su un solo habitat.
Come si fanno i punti
Quattro strade per vincere, qualche trappola
Vince chi ha il parco più spettacolare — cioè più punti. Ma le strade per i punti sono tante e raramente una mossa le serve tutte: scegliere bene è metà del gioco.
Come si vince
- Habitat: somma dei dadi di un'area moltiplicata per quanti dadi contiene
- Torri di guardia: il valore dei tre dadi che le circondano
- Specie diverse: più animali unici collezioni, più punti crescenti
- Missioni: obiettivi extra se giochi nella variante avanzata
Le insidie del punteggio
- Le tessere famiglia fanno punti solo con dadi 1 o 2: scegli bene
- Nel primo round contano solo i dadi collegati all'ingresso del parco
- Tessere o dadi che non riesci a piazzare vengono scartati
- Aspettare troppo un pezzo significa vederselo soffiare dal vicino
Spectacular sembra rilassante finché non realizzi quanto vuoi quel dado. Veloce da imparare, difficile da smettere — la classica partita che ne chiama un'altra.

FAQ su Spectacular
Il nome è strano: il gioco è davvero "spettacolare"?
Dipende dalle aspettative. Spectacular non è un kolossal pieno di scena: è un puzzle spaziale curato, intelligente e accogliente. Il "spettacolo" sta nel parco che cresce davanti a te e nelle scelte sempre più strette turno dopo turno. Se cerchi profondità rilassata più che adrenalina, ti conquista. Se cerchi epica e scontro, no.
È solo l'ennesimo gioco di animali tipo Cascadia o Ark Nova?
No, anche se il tema è simile. Qui i dadi sono cibo che deve combaciare col colore dell'habitat, la plancia di rifornimento ruota tra i giocatori creando un draft continuo, e le torri di guardia aggiungono un puzzle geometrico tutto suo. È un incastro diverso: più rapido di Ark Nova, più interattivo nel draft di un semplice piazzamento in solitaria.
Quanto è difficile da imparare?
Poco. Le regole si spiegano in circa quindici minuti e la prima partita scorre in modo naturale. La parte da padroneggiare non sono le regole, ma le scelte: capire quando prendere subito una tessera e quando rischiare di aspettarla. Le missioni opzionali alzano la sfida solo quando sei pronto.
Si può giocare da soli?
Sì, Spectacular include la modalità solitario. In solo diventa un puzzle di ottimizzazione contro il proprio record: rilassante e appagante, anche se perde la tensione del draft che gira al tavolo. Ottimo per imparare il gioco o per una sessione tranquilla in autonomia.
Con quanti giocatori funziona meglio?
Funziona bene a qualsiasi numero grazie al gioco simultaneo. Da 1 a 6 il downtime resta minimo: anche in sei non si aspetta quasi mai il proprio turno. In 3-4 il draft a rotazione è più vivo, mentre in 2 il gioco è più controllabile e tattico. È una delle sue forze: scala senza rallentare.
È disponibile in italiano?
Questa è l'edizione inglese. La buona notizia è che Spectacular è quasi del tutto indipendente dalla lingua: si gioca con tessere, dadi e icone, quindi al tavolo l'inglese non serve. Solo il regolamento è in inglese, ma è breve e ricco di immagini.

🐸 HOW TO PLAY
1. Draft habitat tiles and food dice
From a shared or personal offering, choose a habitat tile or die (the color of which must match the animal's shelter type). Decide quickly: each choice affects future possibilities.
2. Place them together with your personal fleet board
The tile is placed inside your supply. Then place the die on it: the number represents the food available for that area.
3. Create connected areas to activate food-based learning
At the end of the first phase (8 turns) and at the end of the game (15 turns total), count the dice within each connected area. Only "heart" tiles activated by dice of 1 or 2 trigger the multiplier: dice × number of hearts.
4. Build watchtowers for additional bonuses
By completing a circle of three tiles, you place a tower on top. This will give you bonus points from food (up to 6) at each final scoring phase.
5. Variety objectives and missions change the strategy
In addition to the basic tiles and dice, you can also add optional missions and bonuses for animal variety. At the end of the day, the winner is the player with well-fed areas, strategic towers, and a rich biodiversity.

Created by Eilif and Åsmund Svensson and published by Matagot , Spectacular is an abstract strategy game for 1-6 players that combines tile placement , dice drafting, and habitat building in an eco-conscious setting.
Each turn is based on simultaneous choices: you select animals to protect and dice representing food, whose color must match the habitat. Points are scored by connecting tiles of the same color, placing the correct dice, and skillfully activating lookout towers and "family" tiles.
