🐸 HOW TO PLAY
1. A deep dive into a cruel and wonderful world.
In Oceans , each player guides the creation of a marine ecosystem, populated by evolved and hungry creatures. The goal? To help their species thrive among sharks, whales, and mysterious predators, building a food web that can withstand time and the attacks of other players. It's an engine builder... but with gills, fins, and sharp teeth.
2. Surface evolution: stability before the storm.
The game is divided into two distinct phases. In the first half, you can evolve your species using Surface cards, which represent real-world adaptations such as gills, symbiosis, speed, or defensive capabilities. These cards allow for synergistic and stable combinations, creating believable and functional ecosystems. Each species can have up to three traits: choose carefully and build a solid food chain.
3. Nutrition, aging and survival.
Each turn is divided into two phases: in the game phase, you can create new species, play cards, or draw fish, while in the feeding phase, you must feed your creatures by drawing from the shoal or attacking other species. But beware: each turn also brings aging, and each species must give up fish to survive. No food? They become extinct. It's the harsh law of the ocean.
4. The Call of the Deep: Chaos, Power, and Wonder.
In the second half of the game, you unlock The Deep , a deck of powerful and unique cards that introduce new rules, devastating effects, or bizarre creatures. Here, the game becomes more unpredictable and spectacular: you can unleash the Abyssal Pit, summon alien lifeforms, or master the food cycle in unexpected ways. But with great power… comes great instability.
5. Changing ecosystems, games that never look the same.
Two scenario cards rotate into play, modifying the basic rules and forcing you to rethink your strategy. Every game is different, and every synergy discovered will keep you wanting more, to test out new combinations. In Oceans , surviving is an art, but thriving is pure creativity. The sea is watching you. And it's hungry.
