The FroGames Review
The bomb has gone off. There are six suspects. The chandelier still casts shadows over the witnesses. You read the cards, align the holes, and someone at the table is hiding something.
WHAT IT IS
Two new cases for the Gridel and Levet investigative series
This expansion for Kronologic: Paris 1920 brings two brand-new scenarios to the Paris Opera: Panic at the Opera (a pair of bombers set a bomb) and The Cursed Lovers (two lonely souls wandering without ever meeting). Designed by Fabien Gridel and Yoann Levet, with illustrations by Arch Apolar and Yann Valéani, the expansion raises the bar on difficulty: each scenario contains 5 investigations, all rated between 4/5 and 5/5.
The system remains the same as the base game: you align suspect cards with punch cards, obtain two pieces of information about their movements (one private, one to share with the other investigators), and reconstruct who was where and when. In the first scenario you must uncover the culprits and identify the victims of the explosion; in the second, you must identify two people who experienced the same evening without ever crossing paths. The tension comes from the fact that any shared information can be a trap or a key.
What they're saying abroad
"Kronologic: Paris 1920 – Opernpanik & Liebesleid contains two new scenarios for Kronologic: Paris 1920, both with a difficulty ranging between 4/5 and 5/5."
— Ghenos Games
Kronologic: Paris 1920 – Panic at the Opera & The Cursed Lovers
The base game officially supports solo play, and the expansion works the same way: solve the cases on your own without sharing information. The experience is complete, but loses the psychological tension of doubting what others know.
What's in the box
Two scenarios, ten total investigations
Panic at the Opera
Two fugitives wanted after terrorizing the Opera: a couple planted the bomb. You must find out who they are and who fell victim to the explosion. Five progressive cases, all at high difficulty.
The Cursed Lovers
An unforgettable evening with the Opera orchestra: among the crowd, two lonely souls wander without ever meeting. Who are they? Five investigations to reconstruct fates that crossed paths but never touched.
New character cards
Brand new characters with movements to be reconstructed. Each card, when aligned with the base game's punch cards, reveals information about their movements between the six locations in the Opera.
Deduction sheets
Paper support to note down clues, timing, and positions. Mental reconstruction is complex here: you need a written record to avoid getting lost in the details.

The flow of each turn
Each turn is a step toward the truth, or a dead end.
Take a suspect card and align it with a punch card. You gain two pieces of information about their movements at specific times of the evening.
The first piece of information is for your eyes only. You read it and note it down on your screened sheet. No one knows what you have discovered.
The second piece of information must be declared out loud. Everyone notes it down. This creates asymmetry: you know more than others know about you, but less than what is needed to solve it alone.
Compare the data, exclude hypotheses, and reconstruct timelines and positions. When you think you have solved it, write down your answer and compare it with the solution booklet. The first to answer correctly wins.
⏱️Your first gameThe chronicle, moment by moment▼
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choosing the case
Open the booklet and read the introduction. A bomb at the Opera, or two lovers who can't meet. Choose the difficulty (already high by default), distribute the character cards, and prepare sheets and pencils. The table goes quiet.
The first information
Align the first card with the punch card. Read two pieces of data: keep one for yourself, share the other. Someone at the table takes notes, someone looks at you suspiciously. Maybe you're bluffing. Maybe not.
Collective doubt
Half of the information is on the table, half is hidden. Someone proposes a theory, another dismantles it by citing data you don't have. You start checking your notes again: did you miss something? Or are they bluffing?
The insight (or the error)
Someone declares they have solved it. They write the solution on their hidden sheet. The others speed up, nervous. Are you sure? Or are you missing a piece? The tension rises, nobody speaks anymore.
Verification
Solutions are compared with the booklet. Someone guessed everything correctly, someone got a crucial detail wrong. The winner celebrates, the losers ask to review the steps. Someone is already suggesting the next case.

Three honest things
This expansion requires the base game Kronologic: Paris 1920. It is not standalone: use the board, punch cards, and components from the main game. If you don't have it, you cannot play.
Each scenario contains 5 investigations, all with a difficulty between 4/5 and 5/5. There are no introductory cases: those who have never played Kronologic or have only solved the easy cases of the base game might find it difficult.
Once the 10 total cases (5 per scenario) are solved, the content is exhausted. There are no variants or random setups. The expansion is designed for those who have already exhausted the base game and are looking for new challenges, not for infinite replayability.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the finale rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and lose
Victory goes to whoever solves the case first, but only if the solution is correct.
Victory
- Correctly reconstruct the movements of all characters involved in the case.
- Identify the culprits (Panic at the Opera) or the cursed lovers (Cursed Lovers) before the other investigators.
- Write the solution on the hidden sheet and compare it with the booklet: if it is correct, you win immediately.
Defeat
- You declare an incorrect solution: you are eliminated from the race, while others continue.
- Another investigator solves the case before you.
- You spend too much time checking data and are the last to find the solution.
This expansion is for those who aren't satisfied with introductory cases and want to test their deductive skills on complex, intricate scenarios, with no holds barred. If you like pure deduction, it's the natural next step.

FAQ about Kronologic: Paris 1920 – Panic at the Opera & Cursed Lovers
Do I really need the base game or can I play with just this expansion?
You absolutely need the base game. The expansion only contains the new scenario cards and the investigation booklet: the board, punch cards, screens, and basic components are necessary to play.
Is it suitable for those who have never played Kronologic?
No. The difficulty starts at 4/5 and goes up to 5/5: it is designed for those who have already solved the base game cases and are looking for more complex challenges. If it's your first time with Kronologic, start with the base game and tackle the 1-3 difficulty cases first.
What mechanics does Kronologic: Paris 1920 use?
Spatial deduction, grid movement (reconstructing movements on a map), and management of asymmetric information (private and shared). The system uses character cards aligned with punch cards to reveal clues about suspects' movements.
How many times can I play the expansion cases?
Each case can be solved once: once you know the solution, the puzzle is revealed. There are 10 cases in total (5 per scenario), so about 5 hours of new content for those who have already finished the base game. There are no variable setups.
Is it available in English?
Yes, the Ghenos Games edition sold on FroGames is in Italian: cards, investigation booklet, and all text are translated. It still requires the base game (also available in Italian from Ghenos Games).
