Hedge Mage is a strategic board game where you build a hedge maze… to prevent others from stealing your gnomes, while you sneak into your neighbor's maze to "recover" his. Yes: it's garden warfare, with horticultural magic.
The mix is a blast: on one hand, there's the polyomino placement puzzle to make the hedge grow in the most obnoxious way possible; on the other, there's tactical movement, as you meanwhile have to navigate the opponent's mazes with movement points that change from round to round.
Each turn, you all build your hedge maze together: by placing your cards well, you not only hinder your opponents, but also earn movement points . You then spend them to move your wizards around the enemy maze and awaken/recover gnomes as prompted by the spell cards .
It's a puzzle game, but with just the right amount of evil: you read the spaces, anticipate the paths, and set green traps as you search for the perfect line to score points. If you like territory-building games with direct and tactical interaction, here you'll find hedges, gnomes, and revenge in an elegant format.

Because as you build your labyrinth piece by piece, you're doing two things at once: You are putting obstacles in the way of those who want to steal your dwarves… and you are preparing your secret ways to enter someone else's garden.
It's a game of interlocking puzzles and mischief. Each tile placed is either a "I'll lock you in here" or a "I'll open myself up there." And when you finally have enough movement, you go: you slip into the neighbor's maze, you look for the right corner, and go get your loot.
The funniest thing? It's not a loud robbery. It's a Zen gardener's theft. With trimmed hedges and an innocent smile.
