HOW TO PLAY – EL GRANDE (in 5 steps)

1) Choose the Power card for the turn and reinforcements

At the beginning of each round, everyone secretly chooses one of their 13 Power cards. This determinesthe turn orderand how manygentlemenyou can move from the Provinces (general reserve) to yourCourt(personal reservation).

2) Take your turn with an Action card

On your turn, choose one of the five available Action cards. These cards indicatehow many caballeros can you placefrom your Court on the map and activate a special effect or extra scoring opportunity. Four cards change each round, one of which always moves the King.

3) Place the caballeros respecting the King

Your caballeros can be placedonly in regions adjacent to the one where the King is located.

Sacred rule:nothing can enter or leave the King's region.

Alternatively, you can place your caballeros in theCastle, the secret tower.

4) Influence regions and prepare hidden moves

Use the King to block areas, move your Great for majority bonuses and exploit theCastleto surprise your opponents: at the next score you will secretly decide in which region to send your caballeros out.

5) Score points at the end of every third round

Scoring takes place at the end of rounds 3, 6 and 9:

first it reveals itselfCastle, secretly placing the caballeros;
then each region assigns points based on the printed table;
Extra bonus for majority in the King's region and your Great's region.

El Grande is a strategic board game for 2–5 players, set in Spain medieval, where every decision weighs as much as an entire province. You play a Grande who uses his own caballeros to obtain majorities in the regions, choosing at each round a power card that determines turn order and movement possibilities.

The available actions change each round: bonuses, extra movements, manipulations on the King's position, Small sabotages and sudden openings that overturn the balance of power. Regions are evaluated every three rounds, until the ninth round, when every choice made explodes into a final score that is extremely difficult to predict.
