D&D 2024 (5.5e) Reference Monster Cards
Monsters: Fearsome and Ferocious (CR 0-5)
"Bones rise in the mist, and behind them something worse. You draw the card, read the undead's traits, and realize tonight the party fights for survival."
What it's about
When you need a terrifying enemy, the DM already has it in hand
Monsters: Fearsome and Ferocious is the official deck of D&D 2024 monster reference cards dedicated to formidable creatures: dragons, undead, giants, and nightmare monsters. It is the third deck in the D&D Reference Cards line and completes the bestiary on paper, with stats updated to the 5.5e rules and the new Monster Manual.
Inside the box, you'll find 100 stat cards for creatures from CR 0 to 5, divided among aberrations, constructs, dragons, giants, oozes, plants, and undead, plus an instruction card. Each card features complete stats and a large illustration: precisely the enemies of key moments become easy to manage on the fly.
The Monsters: Fearsome and Ferocious cards serve a specific purpose: unleash the creatures of your nightmares with quick consultation and strong visual impact, without flipping through the manual at the wrong moment. An important note: the deck is in English, so names and stats should be read in English.
The FroGames perspective
The essence of these cards in one line
These are the monsters from crucial scenes: having them ready on cards means not ruining the most anticipated moment of the session by searching for a page.
From experience at the table
A dragon or a host of undead have many attacks and traits: with the card in hand, you manage the epic encounter without losing rhythm.
Four tables, one deck
Who this deck is really for
It's the Dungeon Master's tool for encounters that players remember. Here's who gets the most out of it.
If you are a Dungeon Master
Terrifying monsters have rich stat blocks: multiple attacks, nascent legendary actions, special traits. Having them on cards means managing the climactic encounter without stopping to search for every detail in the Monster Manual.
If you love epic scenes
Dragons, giants, and undead are the heart of campaign finales. This is the deck you open when the adventure reaches its highest point and you want everything to run smoothly.
If your table wants pace
Even with complex creatures, combat doesn't get bogged down. You draw the card, you have attacks and traits before your eyes, and the epic encounter maintains its tension without slowing down.
If you love physical material
The large illustrations of dragons and undead are meant to be shown. Revealing the creature to the table, before initiative, is half the scene.
D&D Monsters: Fearsome and Ferocious (CR 0-5)
What you'll find in the box
Seven creature families, 101 cards in total
25 Undead
Skeletons, zombies, specters, and undead lords: the most numerous group in the deck. The threats of crypts, cemeteries, and moonless nights.
17 Dragons + 6 Giants
The ultimate epic encounter enemies. Dragons and giants that become the highlight of a session, ready with all their stats.
20 Aberrations + 13 Plants
Unnatural horrors and carnivorous flora: creatures that defy the logic of the known world and make players uncomfortable.
14 Constructs + 5 Oozes
Artificial guardians and gelatinous creatures: resilient and unpredictable enemies, with immunities that surprise distracted groups.
Honesty first
What you will NOT find inside the box
We'll tell you before you buy. This is the "Fearsome and Ferocious" deck from the monster line, dedicated to terrifying creatures. Here's what it doesn't contain.
Common Animals and NPCs
Wolves, bears, bandits, and guards are not here. Natural creatures and everyday humanoids are in the "Animals and NPCs" deck, sold separately.
Celestials, Fey, Elementals, and Demons
Magical and unsettling creatures of other natures are in the "Mystical and Menacing" deck. This one focuses on undead, dragons, giants, and similar creatures.
The D&D Rules
It is not a standalone game. To play, you need a copy of D&D 2024 at the table. The cards provide monster statistics, not the complete ruleset.
Italian Translation
The cards are in English. Terrifying monsters have longer texts, so language proficiency matters. If no one at your table reads English, keep this in mind.
Material for Players
This is a Dungeon Master's tool. Players do not use these cards for characters: they are for whoever manages the monsters at the table.
Protective Sleeves
Sleeves are not included. The cards are sturdy, but if you frequently bring the same boss to the table, consider protecting the most used cards separately.
No surprises
To use them tonight, you only need this
✅ You need…
- This deck, already divided by creature family
- A copy of D&D 2024 at the table for the rules
- A knowledge of English to read the cards
- An encounter that deserves a nightmare enemy
❌ You do NOT need…
- Apps or digital subscriptions
- To photocopy stat blocks from the manual
- The other monster decks to get started
- Mandatory sleeves to play
These are the monsters from the climactic scenes: prepare the boss card in advance and reread its traits once, so during the encounter you don't hesitate on attacks and immunities. The large illustrations are best if you reveal them at the table just before initiative: showing the dragon or undead lord, and then rolling for order, builds tension like few other things.
"Players forget a thousand goblins. They never forget the night the dragon spread its wings above them."

Compatibility and how to use themWhat you need in addition to the deck
D&D 2024 (5.5e)
The statistics follow the updated 2024 rules and the new Monster Manual. This is the official line that inherits the old reference cards.
Core Rulebooks
You need a copy of D&D 2024 at the table for combat rules. The cards provide ready stat blocks, not the complete rulebook.
English
Creature names and statistics are in English. The Dungeon Master reads the card and describes the encounter to the players in the language of the table.
Five Table Moments
How a climactic encounter unfolds with the deck in hand
The Crypt Door Opens
Players know the boss is beyond that threshold. The tension is high, and this time, you don't want to break it.
You Reveal the Creature
You place the card with the large illustration on the table. The dragon, the undead lord: players understand it's serious.
The Encounter Starts Immediately
Attacks, traits, and immunities are already before you. You roll initiative without pause: the climax doesn't cool down.
Manage the Fury
Multiple attacks, resistances, special abilities: all from the card. The monster strikes with its full power, without any hesitation from you.
Become a Table Legend
After the fight, that battle becomes part of the group's stories. It's the kind of evening D&D is played for.
How to organize an encounter
From preparation to the climactic scene in four moves
Choose the enemy
You select the boss or horde card by family and CR, based on the climax you want to build.
Study the traits
A quick read-through of special abilities before the session and you'll manage attacks and immunities without hesitation when it counts.
Manage combat
Everything is on the card: the monster strikes with full force and the epic encounter maintains rhythm and tension.
Put away and reuse
The card goes back in the deck, ready for the next time you want to bring that terror to the table.

Even with rich stat blocks, combat doesn't stop. Attacks and traits are on the card, and the epic encounter maintains its rhythm.
Completes the trilogy
With "Animals and NPCs" and "Mystical and Menacing," you have a complete paper bestiary. This is the deck that closes the circle upwards.
Its long-term value
The deck for lasting moments
The first great encounter
Just one well-managed boss can turn an evening into a memory. With the card in hand, the climax flows smoothly and achieves maximum impact.
Campaign after campaign

Real questions
The questions you're asking yourself
What is the difference compared to the other two monster decks?
The three decks are divided by creature type, not by level: all cover the CR 0-5 range. "Animals and NPCs" collects common beasts and humanoids, "Mystical and Menacing" magical and unsettling creatures, and this one formidable enemies (undead, dragons, giants, aberrations, constructs, oozes, plants). Together they form the complete paper bestiary.
Are the cards in Italian?
No, the cards are in English. Fearsome monsters have richer stat blocks, so language proficiency matters. The Dungeon Master reads the card and describes the encounter to the players in the language of the table.
Are they for players or only for the GM?
They are a Dungeon Master's tool. Players don't use them for characters: they are for the person managing the monsters. The only thing you share with the table is the enemy's illustration, to be revealed at the right moment.
Which creatures are included and up to what CR?
The deck contains 25 undead, 20 aberrations, 17 dragons, 14 constructs, 13 plants, 6 giants, and 5 oozes, for a total of 100 complete stat blocks with a challenge rating from CR 0 to 5. It represents the most fearsome side of the bestiary.
Do they work with the old 5e from 2014?
They are designed for D&D 2024 (5.5e) and the new Monster Manual. Several creatures have been revised compared to 5e from 2014: some values might not exactly match the manuals of the old edition.
Can I use them with D&D Beyond or digital tools?
Yes. The cards are physical and independent of digital tools: many Dungeon Masters manage campaigns on tablets but still keep monster cards for speed at the table and to show boss illustrations.
D&D Monsters: Fearsome and Ferocious Reference Cards are the official Wizards of the Coast accessory for Dungeons & Dragons 2024 (5.5e), designed to unleash the most formidable creatures with quick reference and strong visual impact. The deck includes 100 stat cards with a challenge rating from CR 0 to 5 (25 undead, 20 aberrations, 17 dragons, 14 constructs, 13 plants, 6 giants, 5 oozes) plus an instruction card, for a total of 101 English-language cards with large illustrations. Part of the new D&D Reference Cards line that replaces the Spellbook Cards, it is the third of the three monster decks and completes the paper bestiary for climactic encounters. Compatible with the D&D 2024 ruleset, recommended age 12+, available on FroGames.it.
