FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Build your deck, survive the horde, challenge Death herself. And then start again — stronger than before.
What it's about
The horde doesn't wait. The deck grows. Death still arrives.
Vampire Survivors won two BAFTAs for best video game in 2022. Now it comes to the tabletop, designed by Emerson Matsuuchi — the same designer as the Metal Gear Solid board game — and published by Grey Fox Games in collaboration with poncle.
1 to 4 survivors move on a grid besieged by waves of enemies advancing from all four sides of the board. Each turn, cards are played to attack, move, upgrade weapons, and gain experience. You level up. You unlock. You survive — or you die and try again with something new.
The Deluxe Edition includes components 25% larger than the retail version, premium materials, and the full upgrade package. The roguelite that won't let you sleep, now without a controller in hand.
Why it works on the tabletop
The designer replicated the claustrophobia of the waves by pushing piles of enemies from all four sides of the board each turn — until space truly runs out.
The secret to Vampire Survivors on the tabletop
The Achievement Deck unlocks weapons, characters, and evolutions game after game — you won't see everything in five sessions. Each run reveals something new.
From the game experience
Vampire Survivors: The Board Game
Designed to work solo without modifications — the pressure of the horde is identical, the satisfaction of surviving is all yours.
Your arsenal
What you control in each run
Unique characters
Antonio, Imelda, Poe, and the others — each with different starting abilities. Character choice changes the pace of the entire run.
Weapon and passive deck
Build your deck during the run by collecting weapons, power-ups, and passives. Combinations create explosive synergies — or leave you vulnerable.
Achievement Deck
Every unlocked objective adds something new to the game. New characters, weapons, evolutions. You won't see everything in just a few games.
Red Death — the final boss
If you survive long enough, she arrives. Unstoppable, devastating. The only way to truly win is to stop her too — but perhaps even Death can die.
In a few hours, you'll have a story to tell. A character saved at the last turn, an evolution that changed everything. It always happens with Vampire Survivors.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choose your character. Start hoping.
Antonio or Imelda? Each has a different starting ability and changes the plan for the entire run. You place them on the board, shuffle the basic weapon deck, and set up the first enemy piles on the edges. The board is still empty. For now.
The first waves. The first panic.
Enemies arrive from all four sides — slowly at first, then more and more. You play cards to move and attack. Someone levels up and chooses a new weapon. The deck grows. Breathing shortens. It's not too late yet, but you already understand that choices matter.
The synergy that changes everything.
There's always a moment when the cards in your hand fit together perfectly — an evolution that transforms a simple weapon into something devastating. The table erupts with excitement. For thirty seconds, it seems like you might actually make it. Then another wave arrives.
The board closes in. A character falls.
Space shrinks. Enemy piles overlap. A character gets into trouble — but the game doesn't end if one falls. You have to decide: save them or focus on the group's survival. The tension at the table becomes physical.
Red Death arrives. And maybe she can die.
If you've survived long enough, she appears. The final boss. Theoretically unstoppable — but that theory was before your deck was full of evolutions. You finish the game already discussing who to pick next time. The Achievement Deck has opened up something new. You play again.
How to play
The flow of each round
Four quick phases per turn. Learn in minutes, master by dashing.
Each player draws from their deck and plays cards to move their character, attack enemies, collect XP gems, or activate special abilities.
Collected XP gems allow you to level up and choose new weapons, upgrades, or passives to add to your deck. The right combinations create devastating synergies.
At the end of each turn, enemy piles advance from all four sides of the board. The longer you wait, the more crowded it gets. Space to move inexorably shrinks.
Completing specific objectives during the run reveals new cards from the Achievement Deck — new characters, weapons, and evolutions that remain available for future games.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make a difference
Waves from all four sides
Enemies always arrive from all edges of the board, just like in the video game. There's no safe corner. Claustrophobia grows each turn — it's a physical, not abstract, pressure.
The deck builds during the run
You don't start with a fixed deck — you add weapons and upgrades as you level up. Each run is different, each build evolves unpredictably.
Weapon evolutions
Combining weapons and passives results in evolutions — enhanced versions that change gameplay. Finding the right combo is the heart of the system and the source of the best stories.
Achievement Deck — real progression
Every completed objective unlocks new permanent content — characters, weapons, scenarios. You won't see the whole game in a few sessions. Progression is a driving force, not an accessory.
Red Death — the living timer
If you survive long enough, the final boss arrives. It's not an automatic end — you can fight her and win. But you have to be strong enough. Building your deck with this in mind changes every choice.
Faithful to the award-winning video game
poncle supervised the adaptation together with Grey Fox Games. The roguelite loop, iconic characters, evolved weapons — everything designed to recreate the feeling of the BAFTA Award video game, offline.
How it ends
Survive or be overwhelmed
It's not a race between players. It's the group against the game — and the game shows no mercy.
Victory
- Survive long enough to summon Red Death
- Defeat Red Death with at least one character still in play
- Each victory unlocks content from the Achievement Deck for future sessions
Defeat
- All characters in the group are eliminated by the horde
- Enemies occupy all available spaces on the board
- You start over — with a richer deck and something new to unlock
Vampire Survivors: The Board Game is the cooperative roguelite that won't leave you alone. Every defeat is already the next game.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Vampire Survivors: The Board Game
Does the board game really replicate the feeling of the video game?
More than you'd expect. Designer Emerson Matsuuchi built a system where enemies arrive from all four sides of the board every turn, replicating the claustrophobic pressure of the bullet hell. The deck that grows with weapons and evolutions reproduces the video game's upgrade loop. It's different — but you'll recognize every element you loved on screen.
Is it worth it compared to the standard retail version?
The Deluxe Edition includes components with 25% larger footprint and premium materials. For those who want the definitive version to keep on the table — yes. For those who just want to play, the retail version is also the complete game. The difference is in the perceived quality of the physical experience.
Does it play well solo?
Yes. The solo mode is official and requires no modifications — you control a single character against the horde. The pressure is identical to multiplayer, with an added tactical component because every card played is exclusively your choice. It's one of the best uses of the game for those who often play alone.
How many games does it take to see all the content?
Many. The Achievement Deck progressively unlocks new characters, weapons, and evolutions — the system is designed not to show everything in the first few sessions. The designer himself stated that players won't see everything in a few games. This is a strength, not a criticism.
Is it suitable for those unfamiliar with the video game?
Yes. The board game is standalone — you don't need to have played Vampire Survivors on PC or console. The mechanic of surviving against waves of enemies is immediate and intuitive. Those familiar with the video game will have an extra layer of nostalgia, but no tactical advantage.
Is it available in Italian?
This is the English edition. The cards have text, but the movement and combat rules are visual and quick to internalize. Anyone with basic English knowledge can play without difficulty — but keep in mind that cards and rules are in English.
