FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Someone sweats over an "I", someone curses a "Q". In the end, one dares the sixth row, another retreats. And whoever dares more wins or loses everything.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Typesetters under pressure in a race against time and vowels
Designed by Jasper Beatrix and published by DVC Games in 2024, Typeset puts you in the shoes of an old typesetter composing words letter by letter, building line after line to prepare for printing. A fast, portable word game that works for 1 to 6 players with the same intensity.
Each turn you receive a common consonant. You must decide where to place it in your grid, knowing that letters always go in the leftmost available space of a row. You can draw from your limited vowels to complete words, but every five consonants you can choose: stop and score, or dare another round and risk ruining everything. Only word length counts for scoring.
The Upgraded Edition includes a new low-crease game mat, less prone to creases than the previous version.
What they say abroad
A push-your-luck game that rewards those who can read probabilities and manage vowels as a precious resource.
— FroGames
Perfect for filling twenty minutes between games. Rules in five minutes, immediate tension.

Typeset — Upgraded Edition
The game is designed for solo play from its basic design. You use the same multiplayer rules, with a deck of consonants that runs out. The experience is complete; only the shared tension of the same result at nearby tables is missing.
The typesetter's case
Components and cards that make up the game
Consonant Cards
26 cards with the most common consonants. They are revealed one by one for all players. X and Q arrive when you least expect them.
Typesetter Sheet
Your personal grid with six rows. Each letter goes into the leftmost free space. Compose words from left to right, row by row.
Bank Vowels
Limited reserve of A, E, I, O, U. You can use them before or after each consonant to complete words. When they run out, you're in trouble.
Ability Cards
Special powers that change the basic rules. Each game you use a different one, completely changing the possible strategies.
Recommended Sleeves 25 cards in 1 size ▼
If you play often, we recommend protecting your cards with clear sleeves to make them last a long time.

In ten minutes you'll have sweated over a Q, cursed a ruined row, and desperately searched for a six-letter word. Every time.

A game in five acts
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
First letters, anything is possible
The first consonants come out and everyone starts building. C, R, T. Easy. Vowels abound, words form effortlessly. It seems like child's play. It's an illusion.
The first vowel is gone
Someone runs out of A's. Someone else runs out of E's. The rows fill up and the drawn consonants start to cause trouble. An S you can't use. An N that forces you to sacrifice a row. Tension rises.
The choice: stop or dare
Five consonants have passed. You can close now and score the words you have, or continue for five more letters. Those who stop watch those who dare, hoping for others' disaster. Those who continue hope for the perfect consonant.
The cursed letter
The Q comes out. Or the X. Or a Z. Those who still have vowels can save themselves, those who have run out of U's curse the deck. An entire row is wasted. The plan collapses. Those who dared too much pay the price.
Counting and truth
The lengths of the words are counted. Remaining vowels save no one. Those who stopped earlier smile. Those who dared and succeeded win. Those who dared and failed swear revenge for the next round. Shuffle and start again immediately.
How to play
The flow of each round
Each turn is identical: one consonant for everyone, everyone decides where to place it. Every five consonants, choose whether to stop or continue.
A consonant card is flipped over. Everyone sees it simultaneously and must use it.
Write the consonant in the leftmost free space of a row of your choice. You can add vowels from your pool before or after.
If you have the active ability, you can use its power to modify the basic rules of the turn. Some give you bonus vowels, others wild letters.
Every five consonants, you can stop and score completed words, or dare five more letters for higher scores. Those who fail lose everything.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make a difference
Vowels as a critical resource
It's not a vocabulary game. It's a resource management game. Vowels are limited and run out quickly. You have to decide when to spend them and when to hope for good consonants. Those who run out of vowels first collapse.
Binding placement
Each consonant goes into the leftmost free space of the row you choose. This means you must plan words from left to right, with no margin for error. A wrong letter ruins the whole row.
Push-your-luck with checkpoints
Every five consonants you can stop and score, or continue for five more. Those who stop secure their points. Those who continue can double their score or lose everything with a wrong letter.
Variable ability cards
Each game you use a different ability card that changes the rules. Some give you wild vowels, others bonus letters, still others change placement conditions. Infinite replayability.
Simultaneous play
There's no downtime. Everyone plays at the same time, on the same revealed consonant. The game flows quickly, you never wait for your turn because there are no separate turns.
Portable and fast
It fits in a small box, takes five minutes to set up, and ten to fifteen minutes to play. Perfect for filling dead time between long games, or for ending the evening with three quick rounds.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The player with the highest score, totaling the lengths of completed words, wins. Unused vowels do not grant points.
Victory
- Build long words (5-6 letters) without wasting rows
- Manage vowels sparingly and use them at critical moments
- Choose the right time to stop, avoiding killer consonants
Defeat
- Run out of vowels too early and are forced to waste rows
- Dare one round too many and an impossible consonant ruins everything
- Build only short words (3-4 letters) losing points compared to others
Typeset is the word game that rewards resource management more than vocabulary. Those who know when to dare and when to stop always win.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Typeset — Upgraded Edition
Do I need to know a lot of words to win?
No. Vocabulary helps, but the strategy is vowel management. Someone who knows a thousand words but runs out of A's on the third turn loses to someone who knows when to stop. It's a push-your-luck game disguised as a word game.
Does it work well solo or is it better in a group?
It works great in both cases. Solo you have the pure tension of push-your-luck against the deck. In a group, you add the social pressure of seeing who dares and who stops. The intensity doesn't change.
How long does a game really last?
Ten to fifteen actual minutes. Setup thirty seconds, explanation five minutes. It's a true filler, but with tense decisions. Three games in a row are the norm.
Do the ability cards really change the game?
Yes. Some give you wild vowels, others bonus letters for difficult actions, still others modify placement rules. Each game with a different ability requires completely different strategies.
Is it available in Italian?
No, this is the Upgraded Edition in English published by DVC Games. The cards are letters (universal language), but the ability cards and rulebook are in English. Basic knowledge of the language is required.
