GAME OBJECTIVE
In Tug of Roar, two players compete for control of Eldris, leading either the Elkyr or Lycaran clans. The goal is to obtain the most Flags by winning battles (Skirmishes) in the five locations in the center of the table. The game combines drafting, bluffing, and a "tug of war" system (Roar Track).

SETUP
1. Place the 5 Location tiles in a row in the center.
2. Place the "Roar Track" board to the side with the marker in the center.
3. Each player chooses a Clan and takes the corresponding Captains deck.
4. Shuffle the Recruit deck and prepare the Flag, Fear, and Ambush tokens.

PHASE 1: ENROLLMENT (ENLIST)
Players draw Recruit cards and use their Captains to bid and recruit the best units. It's crucial to balance immediate strength with the special abilities of the classes (Druids, Barbarians, Sorcerers).

PHASE 2: DEPLOYMENT
In turns, players place cards from their hand on one side of the 5 Locations.

**Key Rules:**
- Cards can be played face down (for bluffing) or face up.
- Some cards move the marker on the **Roar Track** towards the opponent.
- If the marker reaches the end of the enemy track, the active player places a **Fear Token** on an enemy location, permanently weakening it (-2 or -3 strength).
- Players can use special abilities to move already played cards or manipulate the field.

PHASE 3: SKIRMISH
Once the locations are filled, battles are resolved from left to right:
1. All face-down cards are revealed.
2. The effects of Fear tokens and combat skills apply.
3. Add up the total Strength of the units in each location.
4. Whoever has the highest total places a Flag on that location.

END OF GAME
After resolving all 5 Skirmishes, the player with the most **Flags** wins the game and the throne of Eldris.

THE THRILL OF TUG-O-WAR

The heart of Tug of Roar is the management of the three game phases: Enlistment, Deployment, and Skirmish. Having the strongest cards isn't enough; you need to know how to place them at the right time. With five locations to contend for, you'll have to decide which battles to sacrifice to win the war.

ENROLLMENT PHASE

Use your Captains to bid on the best units. A tight drafting system where stealing a card from your opponent is just as vital as taking one for yourself.

COVERED DEPLOYMENT

Play your cards face down or face up in the 5 locations. Bluffing is essential: will the enemy think you've played a Dragon or just a decoy?

ROAR TRACK

A meter moves back and forth based on your actions. Reach the opposite limit to inflict permanent penalties (Fear) on your rival.

CLASS COMBO

Barbarians bring brute force, Druids manipulate existing cards, and Warlocks offer flexibility. Deep synergies to discover.

FEAR TOKEN

If you are intimidated, Fear tokens reduce the total value of your troops in a specific location. A punishing debuff mechanism.

MAJORITIES

Winning a skirmish gives you a Flag. At the end of the game, whoever controls the most flags rules Eldris.
