The FroGames Review
The director wants a vampire in space. The producer wants a cowboy. You have three dice, a drunk actor, and twenty minutes to shoot the final scene. Someone yells 'Action!' and you hope no one looks too closely.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT
When the budget is low but the ambition is sky-high
Roll Camera!: The B-Movie Expansion takes the cooperative experience of the base game by Malachi Ray Rempen and Velgus into the most gloriously unpredictable territory of cinema: the B-movie. Released by Keen Bean Studio in 2022, this expansion adds specialized roles, professional equipment, and above all, genre requirements: crime, fantasy, horror, sci-fi, western, or absurd blends of them all.
At the table, you are part of a film crew desperately trying to shoot a watchable movie despite absurd constraints and limited resources. You roll dice, assign them to roles and scenes, communicate with the limits imposed by the game, and hope the final edit makes sense. Each genre requires specific elements: if the script calls for a cowboy vampire in space, you'll have to find a way to make it work with what you have.

The B-Movie expansion takes the chaos of Roll Camera and multiplies it by five genres at once

This expansion is for those who have finished the base game and want to see how far the chaos can go before everything collapses. Spoiler: much further than you think.

Roll Camera!: The B-Movie Expansion
The base game supports solitaire and this expansion maintains the mode. You play all roles and manage the common dice pool, which works but completely loses the dimension of limited communication and shared chaos that are the heart of the multiplayer experience.

What you have to shoot your masterpiece
Specialized roles
This expansion adds new roles with unique abilities: the director who can rearrange scenes, the casting director who finds last-minute actors, the stunt coordinator who solves action scenes. Each role has powers that can save the day if used at the right time.
Professional equipment
Special cameras, lights, boom microphones: equipment cards that give specific bonuses but take up precious slots. Deciding what to bring to the set and what to leave in storage is half the planning.
Genre requirements
Every movie requires elements of one or more film genres. A horror movie wants victims and tension, a sci-fi wants technology and aliens, a western wants duels and horses. When the script calls for everything at once, creativity becomes a necessity.
Shared dice pool
You roll the dice at the start of the turn and everyone must share the results. Who takes which dice, who uses them where, who sacrifices themselves for the good of the movie: these decisions define the game, especially when you can't say exactly what you're thinking.

How to play
The flow of each round
Each round is a day of shooting: you roll dice, distribute resources, and try to make progress without blowing the budget or losing the crew.
You roll the shared dice pool. Everyone sees the results, but deciding who takes what is a silent negotiation: communication is limited by the rules, so you must use gestures, glances, or the few words allowed. The best dice go where they are needed most, but it’s not always clear where 'most' is.
Each player uses their dice to perform actions: shooting scenes, solving problems, activating equipment, or using special role abilities. Scenes have specific genre requirements — you must meet them or that scene remains incomplete and penalizes you at the end of the game.
Production problems arise: actors who don't show up, bad weather, budget overruns, broken equipment. You can ignore them to focus on the scenes, but they stack up and at some point become unmanageable. Deciding when to address them and when to 'work around' the problem is part of the strategy.
The production timer moves forward. Each round that passes brings you closer to the final deadline. If you finish the scenes in time and meet the genre requirements, the film is a success. If not, it’s a disaster to be dumped straight to streaming or hidden forever.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Reading the script
You open the genre cards and see what awaits you: a crime-horror set in the Wild West. Someone laughs nervously. The producer says that the budget is fixed and you have to make it work. You choose roles, look at the available equipment, and someone is already making jokes about how bad the final result will be.
First take, first problem
You roll the first dice and realize that no one has the right result to shoot the opening scene. The director wants to use their power, the cinematographer says to wait, the lead actor is stuck in another scene. The limited communication starts to bite: you can't say 'give me that 5', you have to find creative ways to make it understood.
Mid-production, crossed genres
Now you have scenes from three different genres in the works simultaneously. The western needs a duel, the horror a victim, the sci-fi futuristic technology. Someone suggests shooting a duel between aliens with a victim and hopes it makes sense in the edit. The dice still aren't coming up as needed.
The scene that saves the film
One of you finds the perfect combination: using the right equipment, spending the perfect die, completing a key scene that unlocks two others. For a moment it looks like you’re actually going to make it. The table explodes in silent jubilation (you are still under limited communication). Then you look at the timer and remember there are four scenes left.
Final edit
You count the completed scenes, verify genre requirements, and check the remaining open problems. Either you’ve done enough for a watchable film, or you have a glorious disaster no one will want to see. Either way, you have a story: that impossible scene that turned out perfect, that one die that wouldn't cooperate, that time the casting director saved everything. Someone is already asking: 'Shall we do a sequel?'

Need to know
Three things you need to know
This is an expansion: it is not playable on its own. You need Roll Camera! (the base game) to play. The expansion adds complexity and variety but does not replace the core game. If you have never played Roll Camera!, start with that.
The dice are central and bad rolls can ruin perfect plans. There are ways to mitigate this (re-rolls, abilities, equipment), but if luck completely abandons you one evening, you will feel the frustration. It is not a game for those who hate unpredictable chaos.
The game supports up to 6 players, but with full tables, turns get longer and someone might find themselves watching others more than they would like. It works best with 3-4 players, where everyone stays engaged without excessive downtime.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and lose
At the end of production, count completed scenes and resolved problems. The film is a success if it meets the minimum genre requirements and you don't have too many open disasters.
Film completed
- All required scenes were shot and meet genre requirements
- Critical production problems were resolved or mitigated
- The timer did not run out before final editing
Production disaster
- Too many incomplete scenes or scenes failing genre requirements
- Production problems accumulated beyond the tolerable threshold
- Time ran out before completing the required minimum
Roll Camera!: The B-Movie Expansion takes an already chaotic cooperative game and adds absurd film genres. If you want an evening of laughter, dice, and improbable movies, this is your set.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Roll Camera!: The B-Movie Expansion
Can I play this expansion without the base game?
No. Roll Camera!: The B-Movie Expansion requires the Roll Camera! base game to be played. The expansion adds roles, equipment, and film genres, but does not include the essential components (board, some cards, base rules). If you don't have Roll Camera! yet, start with that.
How does limited communication work?
The base rules of Roll Camera! impose constraints on communication: you cannot say exactly what you have in hand or what you want others to do. You can ask generic questions, give vague suggestions, but you cannot say 'give me the die with the 5 to complete this scene'. This creates situations where you must interpret looks, gestures, and half-sentences — and that is half the fun and chaos.
What mechanics does Roll Camera!: The B-Movie Expansion use?
The expansion uses cooperative dice drafting with limited communication. Key mechanics: shared dice pool, open drafting (choosing which dice to take from the common pool), resource management (equipment and special abilities), victory conditions based on multiple objectives (completed scenes + genre requirements). All with a production timer that advances every round.
How much does the expansion change compared to the base game?
It adds complexity and variety without overhauling the system. Film genres are the heart of the expansion: every film has specific requirements (crime, horror, sci-fi, western, fantasy) that you must meet, often in absurd combinations. New roles and professional equipment provide more tactical options, but the flow remains the same. If the base game felt too simple or repetitive, this expansion is the fix.
Is it available in Italian?
This edition is in English. Texts are present on role cards, equipment, and genre requirements, so a basic knowledge of English is necessary. No official Italian translations are currently available.
