The FroGames Review
Decide which seeds to plant. Your neighbor takes the card you needed. The harvest arrives, but the field is still small. Expand or build? The season always ends too soon.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Welcome to Furroughfield, where every animal has their own farm
Designed by Trey Chambers and illustrated by Tierra Connor, Harvest takes you to the Commonwealth of Free Beasts, a rural community inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. Each player is a farmer with a unique talent for working the land, and chooses a homestead with special benefits that activate round after round.
Each turn you draft dawn cards that give you immediate resources and determine turn order. Then you move your wheelbarrows around town to collect wood, tools, and seeds. You plant, tend to your fields, and harvest to make money and points. Clear land to expand your farm with polyomino tiles, and build structures that make your land more efficient and provide end-game bonuses. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season wins.
What they're saying abroad
"Harvest distills the farming genre into something accessible without losing the satisfaction of building your engine."
Harvest distills the farming genre into something accessible without losing the satisfaction of building your engine.
— Meeple Mountain
An eurogame that really makes you feel like a farmer: you plan, you make do, you watch the harvest grow. And then you discover that your neighbor did better with less.

Harvest
The game includes official rules for solo play with an automated opponent that draws cards and occupies spaces. The experience is complete for testing strategies and optimizing your farm, but it loses the tension of the competitive draft and the indirect interaction over spaces.
The tools of the trade
What's on your farm
Seeds and crops
You plant seeds in the fields, tend them to make them grow, and harvest to monetize. Every seed type has different timing and values: you must balance quick yields with long-term investments.
Wheelbarrows
These are your workers. You move them around Furroughfield to collect wood, tools, and seeds. Each space has different resources: where you go determines what you can do during the turn.
Homesteads and powers
Each homestead has a round bonus that activates automatically. Each farmer has a unique power: one is good at clearing land, another at building, another at planting. Light but effective asymmetry.
Buildings and expansions
Build barns, mills, storehouses: each one improves your efficiency or provides end-game points. Expand the farm with polyomino tiles to have more fields. Space is always limited.

🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of every round
Each round is divided into two phases: first, you draft dawn cards to gain resources and turn order, then you move wheelbarrows to collect what you need and work the farm.
You draw 3 cards, choose one, and pass the others to your neighbor. The chosen card gives you immediate resources (wood, tools, money, seeds) and a number that determines turn order. The lower the number, the earlier you play. Simultaneous draft, quick decision.
Each farmstead has an automatic bonus that activates at the start of the round. Some give you resources, others allow extra actions. You don't have to remember to take it: it just happens.
In turn order, you move one wheelbarrow at a time to a space in the city. Collect the indicated resource (wood, tools, seeds) or perform an action on your farm: plant, tend, harvest, clear land, build. Each space can host a limited number of wheelbarrows. When everyone has passed, the round ends.
Put the dawn cards back into the deck, reset the city spaces. Start again with a new draft. The game lasts for a fixed number of rounds (varies based on player count). At the end, tally up the points and whoever has the most wins.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choose your farmstead
Everyone takes a farmer board and a farmstead. Read the powers: one clears land for free, another plants faster, another builds at a discount. They all seem strong. Decide based on what you want to try, not what is "best".
The first draft
You draw 3 dawn cards, keep one, pass the others. The card gives you resources immediately and determines when you play in the round. Everyone wants to play first to take the best spots, but the card's resources matter just as much as the order. You choose, and discover you made a mistake.
Wheelbarrows around the city
On your turn, move a wheelbarrow to a city space: get wood, tools, seeds. Spaces run out, you have to adapt. Someone builds immediately, someone plants, someone clears land to make space. Your plan changes every turn based on what remains available.
The harvest you were waiting for
Finally, you harvest the field you've been tending for 3 rounds. You get money and points. But in the meantime, your neighbor has expanded their farm and has twice as many fields as you. You realize you should have invested in expansion sooner, rather than chasing quick harvests.
End of the season
Tally points from harvests, buildings, and final bonuses. Whoever built the best engine wins, but often the difference is 3-4 points. You look at the winner's board and reconstruct their strategy: ah, they did that. Next time you'll try that.
🐸Know before you goThree honest things, between friends▼
Know before you go
Three things to know before playing
The learning curve is gentle, the optimization is not
The rules can be explained in a quarter-hour and the first game goes smoothly. But understanding when to clear land, when to build, which power to exploit requires 2-3 games. The first time, you end up with half your farm empty and wonder where the points went.
With 4 players, there is downtime
If someone has analysis paralysis during their turn, the others wait. It’s not an endemic problem, but with slow players, the game goes on longer than the stated hour. It runs more fluidly with 2-3 players.
The theme is secondary
The anthropomorphic animals and illustrations are adorable, but mechanically you could be building anything, not necessarily a farm. If you're looking for an immersive thematic experience, this is first and foremost an optimization puzzle with a farm skin.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win
The game ends after a fixed number of rounds. The winner is whoever has the most points from the sum of harvests, buildings constructed, and end-of-game bonuses.
Victory conditions
- Harvest fields: each harvest gives points based on the seed type
- Build buildings: each is worth final points and some provide multiplier bonuses
- Complete objectives: bonuses for sets of buildings or farm configurations
Common mistakes
- Planting too soon without expanding: you end up with few fields and few points
- Chasing the draft instead of planning: picking cards that don't help your engine
- Ignoring buildings: they give powerful multipliers, building late is a mistake
Harvest is an accessible agricultural eurogame that makes you feel like a real farmer: you plan, you make do, you optimize. And in the end, you want to play again immediately to do better.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Harvest
How long does a game really last?
With 2 players, it's under an hour, often around 40 minutes. With 3-4 players, you can reach 60-75 minutes if someone is indecisive about actions. The setup is fast, as is the explanation: most of the time is spent on the table playing, not setting up or learning.
Are the asymmetric powers balanced?
Yes, they are all competitive. Some seem stronger on the first game, but it depends a lot on how you draft and what the others do. Every power rewards a different style: builder, fast planter, land clearer. There is no dominant choice.
Does it work well with 2 players?
Very well. The draft remains competitive, city spaces are contested just the same, and the game runs faster. Some prefer Harvest specifically in 2 because it eliminates downtime and maintains all the decision-making tension.
What mechanics does Harvest use?
Open drafting (dawn cards), worker placement (wheelbarrows on city spaces), variable player powers (asymmetric farmers), tile placement (farm expansion with polyominoes), set collection, and light engine building. It is a medium-light eurogame that mixes classic mechanics fluidly.
Is it available in Italian?
Yes, this MS Edizioni edition includes the rulebook and components in Italian. The game has moderate language dependence on the cards and buildings, but once you learn the symbolism, it plays without any issues.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who illustrated it, who publishes it — and what else they have done.
Harvest is a farm management board game for 1-4 players, 30-60 minute duration, age 10+. Designed by Trey Chambers and published by MS Edizioni, it combines worker placement, open drafting, and asymmetric powers into an accessible eurogame. Each player manages a farm of anthropomorphic animals, plants seeds, harvests fields, expands land with polyomino tiles, and builds structures to optimize production. The dawn card draft determines resources and turn order; wheelbarrows move around the city of Furroughfield to collect wood, tools, and seeds. Includes an official solo mode.
