The FroGames Card
Follow the Dark Lady. Now the Fair Youth is also here. And a rival poet is hot on your heels in the streets. Three parallel deductions, a dwindling deck, and the feeling that you never have enough time.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Five ways to make Black Sonata even more intricate
The Fair Youth is a collection of five mini-expansions for Black Sonata, designed by John Kean to add layers of deduction and tactical challenges to the base game. Each expansion can be played individually or combined with others, modifying the structure of the hunt for the Dark Lady through new objectives, mobile adversaries, and ambiguous information.
At the table, you face parallel deductive tasks: discovering where the Fair Youth is hiding by questioning passersby who lie if you're already in the right place, identifying which landscape symbol marks the Rendezvous location, managing a rival poet who moves around the map following simple but unpredictable rules. The Darker Ladies cards replace the basic clues, making each deduction slightly more complex, while Waypoints and Traces give you tools to mark specific positions in the stealth deck.
What they say abroad
This collection was designed for those who have already experienced Black Sonata and are looking for new lines of tension. Each expansion shifts the balance between information and time in different directions.

Black Sonata: The Fair Youth
Black Sonata is a pure solo game, and these expansions amplify its structure without changing its nature. Each module adds an objective or obstacle that integrates perfectly into the original deduction system, maintaining a complete and coherent experience.
The five expansions
What each module adds
The Fair Youth
A second deduction objective: discover where the Fair Youth is hiding in London. Passersby give you directional clues, but if you're already in the right place, they lie to you. You must unmask him in his location or capture him along with the Dark Lady for extra points.
The Rendezvous
Identify which of the seven landscape symbols marks the meeting place between Shakespeare and the Dark Lady. Questioning a location tells you how many steps away the symbol is. Pure spatial deduction.
The Rival Poet
A mobile pawn that moves around the map following simple rules. The Elusive Poet tries to stay one step ahead of you and reveals clues if you reach him. The Aggressive Poet actively pursues you, ruining your interception plans.
Waypoints and Traces
Two tools for marking and tracking the Dark Lady's position at a specific point in the stealth deck. They allow you to fix critical information and build more precise deductions over time.

How to Play
The Flow of Each Turn
Each turn integrates active expansions into the basic Black Sonata cycle without changing its structure.
You move on the map and interrogate a location. If you use The Fair Youth or The Rendezvous, you get additional clues according to the rules of that expansion. All information must be recorded and cross-referenced with previous information.
If you have activated The Rival Poet, move their pawn according to the rules of the chosen poet. The Elusive moves away, the Aggressive pursues you. Their position influences your tactical choices for the next turn.
If you use Waypoints and Traces, you can choose to mark the Dark Lady's current position in the stealth deck. This allows you to fix precise spatial information to use in future deductions.
If you think you have correctly deduced, you confront the Dark Lady (and/or the Fair Youth if you are attempting a double capture). You reveal the cards. If you are correct, you earn points. If you are wrong, you have wasted valuable time and the deck continues to cycle.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Modular Setup
Choose which expansions to combine. You prepare the additional cards, position the rival poet if you use them, arrange the Waypoint tokens. Each configuration changes the game's priorities. You mentally prepare to manage multiple simultaneous information flows.
Early Ambiguous Clues
You interrogate a passerby about the Fair Youth. They tell you he went east. But are you already in the east? Are you lying? You mark the information, but it's not clear. Meanwhile, the rival poet has moved and now occupies a position you wanted to use. The mental map begins to fragment.
Managing Three Objectives
You are tracking the Dark Lady, searching for the Rendezvous, and trying to locate the Fair Youth. Each turn you must decide which objective to pursue, knowing that the stealth deck is advancing and time is running out. Tactical choices become constantly painful.
The Poet Catches Up
If you are using the Aggressive Poet, there comes a time when they block you in a key position. You have to change your plan, waste a turn, give up an interception. The tension builds because you know that every wasted move brings the end of the deck closer.
Final Deduction
You have enough information for an attempt. You decide whether to unmask only the Dark Lady or attempt a double capture with the Fair Youth. You reveal the card. Either you deduced everything correctly, or you were missing a piece and wasted the opportunity. The deck is almost empty.

Three Things You Should Consider
Real Cognitive Overload
Combining three or more expansions means mentally managing parallel deduction streams with ambiguous and contradictory information. You need an organized notepad and the ability to hold multiple hypotheses simultaneously. This is not a game to play distractedly.
Print & Play Required
This is a digital expansion. You need to print the cards (20 mini-euro and 13 poker-size), cut them out, and possibly sleeve them. If you don't have access to a printer or don't like manual work, consider this a material prerequisite.
Modular but not all equal
The expansions do not have the same impact. The Fair Youth and The Rendezvous add manageable deductive complexity. The Aggressive Poet radically changes the tactical rhythm by introducing active time pressure. Test it separately before combining them.
🏆Victory and DefeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it Ends
How to Win and How to Lose
The scoring system depends on which expansions you have activated and how many objectives you complete.
Victory
- Correctly unmask the Dark Lady in her exact location
- Complete secondary objectives (Fair Youth, Rendezvous) for bonus points
- Capture both Dark Lady and Fair Youth for the maximum possible score
Defeat
- The stealth deck runs out before you have completed the deduction
- You attempt an unmasking but deduced incorrectly: you waste valuable time
- The Aggressive Poet repeatedly blocks you, preventing you from reaching key positions in time
Black Sonata: The Fair Youth is for those who have already experienced the base game and want more layering, more pressure, more complexity. Each expansion changes the balance between information and time in a different way.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Black Sonata: The Fair Youth
Is the base game required to play The Fair Youth?
Yes, it is mandatory. This is a collection of modular expansions that integrate into the Black Sonata system. You cannot play them without the base game, as they use the original stealth deck, map, and movement rules.
What mechanics does Black Sonata: The Fair Youth use?
Hidden movement (the Dark Lady and the Fair Youth move according to a secret deck), point-to-point movement on the London map, multi-level logical deduction based on ambiguous and contradictory clues. The rival poet introduces programmed movement with simple rules.
Which is the most difficult expansion?
The Aggressive Poet. It radically changes the tactical rhythm because it actively pursues you, forcing you to modify your plans on the fly. The other expansions add deductive complexity but do not introduce active time pressure like the aggressive poet.
Can I play all five expansions together?
Technically yes, but it is extremely challenging. You have to manage five parallel information streams with only one stealth deck moving. We recommend starting with one or two expansions at a time and gradually increasing complexity.
Is it available in Italian?
No. This expansion is available in Print & Play format in English. The cards predominantly feature symbols and numbers, but the rules and some texts on the Darker Ladies cards are in English. Written comprehension of the language is required to play.
