The territorial control that couples lacked
Forget everything you know about two-player majority games. They're usually abstract chessboards or overly broad duels where you ignore each other. Not here. Here, there's a third wheel breathing, growing, and wanting your head.
It's a strategy and area control board game set in ancient mythological Ireland, where you and your opponent lead the tribes of the Tuatha Dé Danann. But you're not alone: the Fomorians, brutal monsters controlled by the game, swarm across the map like a plague.
You'll have to wrest territory from your opponent by blocking their path, but if you both ignore the monsters for too long, they'll win. It's a tense, nasty, and damned brilliant balance, crafted by the creators of Undaunted and War Chest .
It's the game for those who love the tactical tension of a wargame but have only one opponent at the table and are looking for an elegant system without dice.
Why MOYTURA stays in your head
The Fomorians aren't static. They spread like a virus at the end of the round, devouring territory if you don't contain them immediately.
Combat is mathematical and ruthless. Enter an enemy zone? Remove one of your pieces and one of theirs. Calculate the sacrifice carefully.
Choose which God to activate to move or recruit. Powerful actions cost "faith," basic ones are free. Tense resource management.
The map respects the island's geography. Bottlenecks and coastlines become death traps for those who don't plan ahead.
Sometimes you have to let your opponent take a region just because he's the only one who can stop the monsters from advancing there.
At the end of the era, majorities are counted. If the Fomorians have more pieces than you in a region, they score the points. Be careful.

Moytura solves the age-old problem of two-player wargames: the lack of chaos. Here, chaos is planned. Fomorian decks introduce manageable unpredictability that forces you to adapt your tactics every single turn.
You can't just "play your game." You have to look at the map, figure out where the enemy AI will strike, and decide whether to use that strike to your advantage or parry it to avoid giving away points to the monsters at the end of the game.
The God Card stock selection system creates a dynamic market: the best stocks become more expensive, while the ignored ones become more desirable. It's a hidden economic engine within a wargame.
Where it rewards you
Whoever understands the region boundaries wins. Isolating a group of enemies in a corner can save the game.
Activating the right God when your opponent has no resources to respond is checkmate.
Position yourself where your opponent would like to pass. You can't attack them directly, but you can block their path.
Know when to stop expanding and consolidate. Having 10 scattered troops is worth less than 3 well-placed troops.
Knowing which color of monsters will activate (by looking at your discard pile) allows you to prepare your defenses ahead of time.
