A quick adventure with funny creatures and trophies to win
Designed by Florian Sirieix and published by Scorpion Masqué in 2025, Mooki Island was awarded Best Kids Game at As d'Or 2026. Seppyo's (Mélanie Bardin) illustrations fill 36 cards with colorful creatures, each belonging to a different family. The island is full of Mooki to meet, but beware: the Spider is always lurking.
At the table, you do this: you choose a card from the central deck, place it in front of you, then it's the other player's turn. At the end of the game, you count the Mooki from each family: whoever has the most for a family wins that family's trophy. The rules are explained in one minute, but after a few games, children start remembering which cards have already come out, blocking their opponent, and choosing mischievously. And the Spider? It upsets everyone's plans.

36 cards to build your collection
Mooki Cards
Each card shows a Mooki from a family: Lumilion, Dracoleaf, and other creatures that children can name as they wish. At the end of the game, they are counted: whoever has the most per family wins the trophy.
Trophy Cards
One for each Mooki family. At the end, they are awarded: whoever has the most Lumilions gets the Lumilion trophy. The player with the most trophies wins. Ties? The total number of Mooki is counted.
Spider Card
The card that ruins plans. If you draw it, something strange happens: it can overturn a majority, it can block a trophy. Children hate and love it at the same time.
Legendary Cards
Some Mooki are golden, shiny, special. They don't change the rules, but they are beautiful to find. Children always want them.

How to play
The flow of each round
Each turn lasts 10 seconds. The game ends when the cards run out.
The active player chooses a face-up card from the center of the table and places it face-up in front of them. Nothing is hidden.
The other player does the same: chooses a card from the center and places it in their area. Now both have one more card in their collection.
New cards are drawn from the deck to refill the center. The process restarts: the first player chooses again, then the second. And so on until all cards are used.
When the deck runs out, count the Mooki of each family. Whoever has the most in a family takes the trophy. Whoever has the most trophies wins. Tie? The player with the most total Mooki wins.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The deck in the center
Place the deck in the center, flip 4-5 cards. The child immediately chooses the one with the most colorful creature. You take the one you need for the majority. No one is counting yet.
The first clever move
The child realizes there are different families. They start picking the same family every time. You smile: they are learning. Then you notice they have three Dracoleaf and you only have one.
The Spider
The Spider card comes out. The child laughs, you curse inwardly. Something flips: a majority you seemed to have in your grasp is now shaky. The Spider always does that.
The last choice
Two cards remain. The child must choose. They count the Mooki in front of them, then in front of you. They think. They take the one you need. They blocked you. They're playing dirty.
The trophies
The families are counted. Who has more Lumilion? You. Who has more Dracoleaf? Him. Trophies tied. Total is counted. Wins by one Mooki. Wants to play again immediately.

What to know beforehand
Three things to know before buying it
Two players only
The game is designed for two players. It cannot be played with three or four. If you have multiple children, they will have to take turns or play tournaments. This is a deliberate choice: the draft works because it's just the two of you.
The Spider can be frustrating
The Spider card overturns situations. Younger children (4-5 years old) might not immediately understand why they lose a trophy they seemed to have won. After a couple of games, they accept it, but the first time there might be tears.
Gentle but short learning curve
For the first 3-4 games, the child picks randomly. By the fifth, they start counting. By the tenth, they play better than you. After twenty games, the adult might get bored, but the child won't: replayability is very high for them, less so for parents.

How to win and how to lose
The game ends when the deck is empty. Families are counted, trophies are awarded, and the winner is declared.
Victory
- Win the trophies for families where you have more Mooki than your opponent
- Win the game if you have more trophies than the other player
- In case of a trophy tie, the player with the most total Mooki in their collection wins
Defeat
- Lose a trophy if your opponent has more Mooki of that family
- Lose the game if your opponent has more trophies than you
- Also lose in case of a trophy tie but with fewer total Mooki

What age is it really playable for?
The box says 4+, and that's accurate. A 4-year-old understands the turn (choose a card) and enjoys the illustrations. Around 5-6 years old, they start counting families and playing strategically. At 7, they play better than many distracted adults.
Can more than two people play?
No. The game is designed for exactly two players. The open draft works because only the two of you are choosing. With three players, majorities don't hold up, and the pace is lost.
How long does a real game last?
10 minutes if both know what to do. 15 minutes if the child is playing their first game and counts slowly. An evening with a 5-year-old means 4-5 games in a row: they always want a rematch.
What mechanics does Mooki Island use?
Open drafting (choose a visible card), majority collection (whoever has more cards of a family wins the trophy), progressive memory (remembering which Mooki have already appeared helps), and a hint of take-that with the Spider card.
Is it available in Italian?
