Illiterati is a real-time cooperative word board game : an evil cult wants to burn books, and you—the League of Librarians —must save them by building words on the fly, swapping letters, and staying sharp as time runs out.

It's organized chaos , but in the right way: we talk, we negotiate, we pass a letter "you need it now," and we try to close constantly changing objectives. The table becomes an emergency library, and every second counts.

You're not just forming words: you're saving books under pressure .

Each player has letter tiles and a "burning" book with a condition to meet (number of letters, symbols, themes, etc.). In the center is a shared library from which to draw and continuously trade : the goal is to complete your challenge before the round ends.

If the central library accumulates too many letters, a burn event is triggered: letters are removed, options disappear, and tension rises. What's more, the Villains arrive to disrupt everything, forcing you to rebuild with what's left. It also works as a solo board game , but in a group it's pure coordination out loud.

Setup (role + personal goal):inIlliterate(real-timecooperativeof words) each one starts with5 letter tilesAnd1 red book “on fire”which indicates atarget conditionto be fulfilled to “save it” (e.g. animal words, using X tiles with specific symbols, etc.). In the center of the table is aLibrarywith3 tilesdiscoveries.
Start of round (3 minutes):each round lasts3 minutesBefore starting the countdown, each player draws7 tilesfrom the draw bag. If you want, at the beginning of the round you can alsodiscard and draw up to 7 tiles, but in that round you will suffer a penalty (see point 5).
Real-time: Create words, talk and exchange:when the timer starts, everyone playsat the same time: you canspeak, plan andexchange lettersbetween players and with theLibraryto help you build words that meet your book goals. The idea is to create "valid" words and use letters efficiently so as not to cause the center of the table to explode.
End of time: Library control and “Burn event”:after 3 minutes, you check how many letters are left in theLibrary. If it exceeds the threshold (depends on the difficulty), aBurn event: you turn those letters face down, youremoves one from the game, then the excess is eliminated (to lighten the Library). If you burn too many letters during the game,you lose. If insteadNotyou have burned nothing and completed your goal, you “save” the book: turn thered bookand you fish oneblue bookwith a new goal.
Illiterate Villains + Final Chapter (victory condition):after each round a card is drawnVillain cardand the attack is resolved: often the bad guysthey tear up lettersfrom words, forcing you to rebuild in the next round to avoid further burns. If the same villain comes out again, activate achain attack: the effects of previous copies (from newest to oldest) are also resolved. When everyone has completeda certain number of books(2 or more, depending on the difficulty), you draw theFinal Chapter: inthe same roundEveryone must complete that final challenge together. If even one fails, another attack comes and the game continues. Warning: If you have chosen todiscard and fish outat the beginning of the round (point 2), you will have to drawa second Villain cardin that round; if the villain deck runs out,you lose.
