FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Six characters on stage, thirty seconds of suspense, then chaos erupts. You don't call it luck — you call it talent.
What it's about
The most chaotic and colorful talent show on the table
You're Flip Valley's top agent — and the director needs six characters for the next big animated show. The problem? Not all your toons get along. Jordy Adan and Renato Simões have designed a deckbuilder where every game is a slot machine with a brain: you flip, you hope, you combine.
Each round, you flip six cards from your deck into the 3x2 grid. Some characters activate immediately, others interact with neighbors, still others hate each other and cancel everything out. Collect Fame, hire new stars, fire the mediocre ones. The first to reach 30 Fame points triggers the Flip Finale — and the player with the most points wins.
FlipToons is small in the box, big on the table. With cartoon illustrations by Diego Sá and a mechanic that works in 15 minutes, it's one of those games you put back in the box right away — to play it again.
A deckbuilder with the soul of an auto-battler: build the team, then watch them explode (or not) on stage.
The secret of FlipToons in one line
Small box, big chaos. You learn in five minutes, you think about it all day after.
From the gaming experience
FlipToons
Reach 30 Fame before the deck runs out, with adjustable difficulty (easy/normal/hard). Works great — the pace is fast and every Flip counts.
Your arsenal
What you control in each game
The toon deck
Start with ordinary characters and build the dream cast. Each card has unique talents — only you know how to make them shine together.
The 3x2 grid
Six slots, six destinies. The order in which the toons fall changes everything — interactions activate in sequence, and the result is always a surprise.
Fame points
The game's currency. Earn them with the right combos, spend them to hire high-level stars or fire those who don't perform.
The Critic's Choice
Whoever reaches 30 Fame first gets this bonus and triggers the Flip Finale. But it's not a given that it will be enough to win.
Every Flip is a moment of collective anticipation. Then something explodes — and someone screams. That's a night worth remembering.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Six cards, a plan already brewing
The starting deck is dealt, the market is explained. Everyone looks at the six available cards and immediately starts calculating. "I'll take the Crocodile right away." "No, I'll wait for the Rabbit." The game hasn't even started, and there's already a strategy — which will crumble within two rounds.
The first unexpected flip
You shuffle, flip the six cards, and the Pig lands in the wrong corner. Zero points. Someone laughs. Someone curses. The player next to you just scored eleven points with a combo that seemed impossible. The table comes alive by the second round.
Your deck starts responding
After four or five rounds, the cards begin to work together. You've fired the useless characters, hired the right ones. When your Alligator activates the Bear's adjacent bonus and then the Bear powers up the Penguin — you understand why the game works. It's a quiet satisfaction that takes you by surprise.
Someone approaches 30
The pressure mounts. One of the players is at 25 points — just one decent flip is enough to trigger the Final Flip. Everyone watches their deck. Everyone hopes their toons land in the wrong spot. And when it happens — when the round goes awry at the very last moment — the table explodes.
The Final Flip. Anything can happen.
Someone reaches 30 fame. The Final Flip is triggered — one last round for everyone. The player who was second can win. The player who thought they had won can lose. The game almost always ends with a surprise. Everything is packed away while still discussing that flip from round three.
How to play
The flow of each round
Three repeating phases. Learn in ten minutes, play right away.
Each player shuffles their entire deck and flips the top six cards into a 3x2 grid. Characters are placed simultaneously — the first player resolves first, then others in order.
Each character's abilities are resolved in the order they were flipped. Many effects depend on their position in the grid or who they are next to. The total fame generated in that round is counted.
With accumulated fame, you can hire new characters from the market or fire unwanted ones (for 5 points each). Fame is reset, the deck is shuffled again, and you start over.
When a player reaches 30 fame in the Check Fame phase, they win the Critic's Choice. A final round is played for everyone — whoever scores the highest at the end of that round wins the game.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make a difference
The grid matters as much as the cards
It's not enough to have the right character — they need to land in the right spot. Adjacency and position effects turn every flip into a small puzzle to solve.
Deck evolves every game
Everyone starts equal, but within a few rounds, decks diverge. Market choices define strategy — and the market changes every turn, so no one ever builds the same cast twice.
Always an open ending
The Final Flip rebalances everything at the last moment. The leader has no guarantees. The one behind still has a chance. It's a deliberate design that keeps everyone engaged until the last card.
30 characters, 30 synergies
Each toon has a specific talent. Character combos are discovered by playing — some obvious, some surprising. The game teaches its mechanics while you're already winning or losing.
Scales perfectly from 1 to 4
Flip and Check Fame are played simultaneously — almost no downtime even with 4 players. The real duration is 15-20 minutes regardless of the number of players. Ideal when time is short.
1930s cartoon art
Diego Sá's illustrations are inspired by Cuphead cartoons and 1930s animation. A precise visual choice that gives the game a unique identity even just on the table.
How it ends
Winning and losing in FlipToons
It's not enough to reach 30 — you need to get there at the right time, and then survive the Final Flip.
Victory
- Reach 30+ fame during Check Fame — trigger the Final Flip and win the Critic's Choice
- In the Final Flip, everyone plays one last round — whoever has the highest fame at the end wins the game
- The player who triggered the Final Flip has no advantage in the last round
Defeat
- Your deck doesn't generate enough fame in the Final Flip — someone else scores more
- In solo mode: your deck runs out before you reach 30 fame
- No elimination — everyone plays until the last flip
FlipToons is one of the most accessible deck builders in recent years. Twenty minutes, four players, an always uncertain ending. Hard to stop after just one game.
Frequently Asked Questions
FlipToons FAQ
Is it really just luck or is there strategy?
Both, balanced. The flip is random — you can't control where the cards land. But you decide what to put in your deck, when to fire a character, and what combo to build. Those who pay more attention to the market win more often. It's not a game of pure luck, but luck is part of the design.
Does it work well solo?
Yes. The solo mode has three difficulty levels and the objective of reaching 30 fame before the deck runs out. It's a very effective way to learn combos without pressure and understand how the cards work. However, the true spirit of the game is felt with others at the table.
Is it suitable for those who have never played a deck builder?
It's probably one of the best deck builders to start with. The rules are explained in ten minutes, the first game is immediately understandable, and the "flip, count, buy" cycle is intuitive. Complexities emerge during play, not before — you don't need to study anything to have fun from the first round.
What's the best player count?
It works well at all counts. With 2 players, it's faster and more tactical — market contention is more direct. With 4 players, there's more chaos and more laughs. The unique feature is that flipping and fame checking are done simultaneously, so downtime is minimal even at maximum players.
Are there expansions or additional content?
Currently, there is only one official mini-expansion: FlipToons Big Button, which adds a new mechanic card (the Red Button) and the Axolotl as a character. It is available separately. The base game is complete and standalone — the mini-expansion adds a variant, it doesn't fix anything that was missing.
Is it available in English?
This is the English edition. The text on the cards is minimal — mainly character names and short effects. The rules are in English but simple and well-illustrated. It is not necessary to know English to play, but be aware that textual references are in English.
FlipToons is a deck-building board game for 1–4 players (ages 10+, duration 15–30 min). Designed by Jordy Adan and Renato Simões, illustrations by Diego Sá, published by Thunderworks Games. Main mechanic: deck building with tableau building on a 3x2 grid. Each player builds a deck of animated characters, flips them into a grid, and calculates fame generated by combos and positions. The game ends when a player reaches 30 fame, triggering a Final Flip for everyone. Supports an official solo mode with three difficulty levels. Graphic style inspired by 1930s cartoons and Cuphead. Includes a mini-expansion, Big Button, available separately. English edition. Available on FroGames.it.
