HOW TO PLAY ESCAPE FROM POMPEII THE SETTLEMENT PHASE In the first part of the game, players populate the city. By drawing cards, they place their citizens in Pompeii's historic buildings. It is a purely tactical phase where players try in every way to quickly occupy positions closest to the city's exit gates, secretly preparing for the impending great disaster. THE ERUPTION OF VESUVIUS When the terrifying volcano card is revealed, everything changes irreversibly. The fictitious peace instantly ends, and the desperate and brutal escape begins. Players definitively stop adding new citizens to the city and begin to run headlong towards much-hoped-for salvation. THE GAME TURN DURING THE ESCAPE The constant flow of the turn becomes increasingly frantic and is divided into rigid, precise actions. 1) DRAW A LAVA TILE. The current player draws an unknown tile from the dark bag and places it directly on the large board, faithfully following the corresponding symbols. 2) SPREAD THE FIRE. If the placed tile directly touches other lava tiles of the exact same type, the lethal flow spreads, inexorably blocking roads and destroying entire Roman buildings. 3) ELIMINATE TRAPPED CITIZENS. Anyone tragically reached or completely surrounded by the inexorable lava is immediately removed from the game and ideally cast into the deep crater of the volcano. 4) MOVE YOUR SURVIVORS. Cleverly use accumulated movement points to desperately rush your citizens towards the safe exits of the city, carefully considering that squares with more people offer strategic free extra movements. THE END OF THE GAME The game ends instantly when the last available lava tile is placed or when, fortunately, there are no more citizens alive within the city. The player who has masterfully managed to escape the most citizens through the safe gates of Pompeii wins the game.
