You're robbing a safe with two partners. One is counting the gold without saying how much. The other already has their gun out. And you’re deciding whether to trust them for one more round.
WHAT IT IS
A Western heist that always ends in a shootout between partners
Designed by Travis Hancock and illustrated by Holly Hancock and Sarah Keele, Deadwood 1876 is the third volume in Facade Games’ Dark Cities series. We are in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1876: there is gold, there are safes, and there are unreliable partners.
You play in teams to steal safes around Deadwood. Inside there is gold (which counts toward team victory), badges (which grant extra turns), and dueling pistols. The catch: at the end, only the team with the most gold makes it to the Final Duel. And there, the partners shoot it out until only one remains. Whoever has collected too many pistols becomes a threat. Whoever has taken too little gold might have already been plotting a betrayal.
What they say abroad
"It's a game about working together until you're not."
A game about working together until you stop doing so.
— Facade Games
Deadwood 1876 works because betrayal isn't a possibility: it's written in the rules. Not if, but when. And everyone knows it from the first turn.

What you steal and what you need
The safes and their contents
Gold
Your team needs it to make it to the Final Duel. But if you take too little, you might have been thinking of something else. If you take too much, you become a target.
Dueling Pistols
They're useless until the Finale kicks off. There, they become the only thing that matters. Whoever hoarded them was already ready to betray.
Badges
They grant extra turns toward the end of the game. Useful for stealing the last safe that can change everything. Or for playing the card that eliminates a rival before they can do it to you.
Dice and action cards
You use cards from your hand to compete for safes with other players. But you have to balance: strong cards now, or hold them for the Duel? Your hand empties fast.
