FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Hog Rider on the field. Golem tanking everything. Dark Elixir to accumulate and exploit before someone devastates your village.
What it's about
Dark Elixir changes everything. Again.
In the base game of Clash of Clans: The Epic Raid you built your village, trained troops, and plundered opponents. It already worked great. Then the Dark Elixir Expansion comes along and shuffles the cards — literally.
This expansion introduces a new valuable resource: Dark Elixir, managed on an additional board with an exclusive marketplace. With this currency, you unlock elite troops: Hog Rider, Valkyrie, Minion, Lava Hound, Golem, and Witch — each with specialized abilities that open up devastating synergies.
It's not just a content pack. It's a new strategic dimension that integrates perfectly with the base game's engine, increasing depth and variety without weighing down the setup.
From the game experience
Dark Elixir introduces a parallel economy that forces difficult choices every turn: invest in basic troops or aim for elites? The tension never lets up.
The secret of Dark Elixir in one line
Hog Rider jumping over walls, Golem absorbing every attack in front of others — the new troops are not just more powerful, they are a completely new tactical vocabulary.
From the game experience
CoC: Dark Elixir Expansion
The new Dark Elixir troops
Six units, zero mercy
Hog Rider
Jumps over walls. Hits defenses directly. The unexpected disruption at the start of the turn.
Valkyrie
Devastating area attack. Rotates across multiple targets simultaneously — perfect for pulverizing clusters of defenses.
Minion
Fast, low-cost air unit. Perfect for combining with other troops for two-level attacks.
Lava Hound + Golem
Extreme resilience. They absorb damage to protect more fragile troops — essential in elaborate raids.
The village you carefully built is still there. But now your opponent has a Golem in front and a Hog Rider ready to jump the wall.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The extra board appears on the table
Setup. The new Dark Elixir board is placed next to the base one. Everyone looks at it. Some smile because they already know what it can unlock. Others make a face as if to say: "I still don't quite understand how it works." The game hasn't even started yet, and there's already a slight asymmetry.
The first Dark Elixir accumulated
First turn. Everyone builds as usual — but now there's this purple resource to keep an eye on. Those who ignore it are already making a mistake. Those who accumulate it too slowly will see their neighbor unlock the Hog Rider before they've finished their village. The pressure is doubled from the start.
The Valkyrie unleashes havoc
Someone spent all their Dark Elixir on the Valkyrie. She charges into the enemy village, spins, hitting multiple buildings simultaneously. The table falls silent for a second, then erupts. "Wait — how many structures did she just pulverize?" Three. In a single attack. The balance of the game has just shifted.
The Golem shields, troops enter
Another synergy materializes at the table. The Golem silently absorbs all defense while the Archer Queen and a Minion sneak in behind. The combo wasn't planned from the start — it arose from three turns of opportunistic accumulation. This is what makes the expansion interesting: synergies aren't built, they're discovered.
40 stars. Game over. Everyone wants to play again.
Someone reaches the 40-star mark. The scores are tallied. It turns out the runner-up was three points away. The game was more balanced than it seemed. The board is dismantled with players already wondering which elite troop combination to explore next time — because this time you only saw half of them.
How to play with the expansion
Dark Elixir in the game flow
The expansion integrates into the base flow without disrupting its structure. Three additional steps for each turn.
Some buildings on the new board produce Dark Elixir instead of gold or elixir. It's collected during the normal resource gathering phase — but it must be kept separate and managed carefully.
The additional board displays the six available Dark Elixir troops. You can spend the resource to add one to your attack queue — but the choice is always limited and competitive.
Dark Elixir troops integrate into the normal raid phase. Each has a special ability that activates during the attack — wall jumping, area damage, flying over defenses.
Elite troops combine with each other and with base troops. Build the optimal formation over the turns — there's no single dominant combo, there are dozens of valid approaches.
Why it adds value
Six reasons to expand your village
A third economy to manage
Gold, Elixir, and now Dark Elixir. The choice of where to invest each turn becomes much more complex — and much more interesting. No optimal strategy dominates all others.
Six troops that change the meta
Hog Rider, Valkyrie, Minion, Lava Hound, Golem, and Witch are not just more powerful — they open up entirely new attack approaches that the base game did not allow.
Additional board without adding burden
The extra board is placed next to the base one and integrates naturally into the setup. It doesn't double the complexity — it adds a strategic layer without complicating the basic rules.
Synergies discovered through play
Combinations between base troops and elite troops aren't studied beforehand — they emerge during the game. Each run reveals a new combo you hadn't considered.
Faithful to the mobile game
Those with hundreds of hours on Clash of Clans will immediately recognize each troop and its role. The leap from app to table is intuitive — and surprisingly faithful.
Increased replayability
With more troops available and a variable marketplace each game, the number of possible combinations grows exponentially. The first twenty games are all different.
How to win
The same rules, more paths to victory
The expansion does not change the victory conditions — it expands them. Now you can build paths towards 40 stars that the base game did not allow.
Victory
- Be the first to reach 40 stars (points) — each destroyed enemy structure is worth stars
- Dark Elixir accelerates this path by unlocking troops with higher damage
- Those who build the right synergies reach 40 stars faster
Defeat
- You don't reach 40 stars before your opponents
- You invested too much Dark Elixir in troops that didn't combine well
- Your defenses weren't strong enough to withstand the elite troop assault
The Dark Elixir expansion is the natural first upgrade for those who have already played the base game extensively. Six new troops, a new resource, infinite new games.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Dark Elixir Expansion
Is it really necessary or is it just extra content?
It's not necessary — the base game is complete. But if you've already played several games and want to raise the strategic level, the Dark Elixir Expansion adds a real dimension: a third economy to manage and six troops with specialized abilities that significantly change the available attack approaches.
Are Dark Elixir troops too strong compared to base troops?
They are more specialized, not necessarily stronger overall. The Hog Rider jumps walls but has less health. The Golem tanks everything but is slow. The Valkyrie hits an area but is expensive to unlock. The balance comes from the economy: those who invest in Dark Elixir forgo something else — it's never a free choice.
Does it increase game duration?
Slightly — about 10-15 minutes longer than the base game, especially in the first few games as players familiarize themselves with the new troops. Once the rhythm of the Dark Elixir marketplace is learned, the time stabilizes at 70-90 minutes.
Can it be used with the Collector Edition of the base game?
Yes, it is compatible with all versions of Clash of Clans: The Epic Raid. The additional board and troops integrate regardless of which edition of the base game you own.
How many Dark Elixir troops are used per game?
The marketplace displays a subset of the six available troops each game, ensuring variety. You will never see all six in the same run — and this variability is part of the design, as it forces adaptation and does not allow for rigid, predefined strategies.
Is it available in Italian?
This is the English edition. The textual component is minimal — mainly troop names and some icons on the marketplace. Those familiar with the base game or the mobile game will have no difficulty.
