1. What color is this card? It's up to you... until you decide.
In Cat in the Box , each numbered card has no predetermined color. You decide which color you want when you play it, in a trick-taking game that defies the laws of logic and... quantum physics! But be careful: each choice narrows your future options, to the point where you could create an irreversible paradox.
2. Bet on the future, play in the present.
At the start of the round, each player formulates their guess: how many tricks do you think you can win? Secretly record it, then test your predictive skills by playing one card at a time. Each number can be any color, but each number-color combination can only exist once. And if you're forced to play something that no longer exists… boom, paradox!
3. Build connections, create brilliant strategies.
In addition to tricks, you can keep track of your plays on the central board by placing markers to form adjacent groups of the same color. These clusters will earn you extra points... if you manage to avoid logical errors along the way. Each game is a strategic dance between tricks, bidding, and spatial planning.
4. Paradox is your number one enemy.
It's not enough to play well: you also have to avoid getting stuck . If you declare a color already in use with the same number, you've just created a paradox and lost valuable points. Every decision has repercussions for the rest of the round, making Cat in the Box a game that forces you to think outside the box, or rather... outside the box.

We didn't expect it to be so deep. Cat in the Box is the kind of game that starts off like, "OK, let's do a quick one," and ends up with you hitting three in a row.
The quantum grip system is brilliant, creating very subtle bluffs and continuous tension.
We took it on our lunch break and it kept us glued to it for weeks: zero downtime, just interesting decisions and painful choices.
And yes, let's face it: whoever creates a paradox gets friendly bullied for hours. 🧠🐾
