Something arrives from beyond the known galaxy. Invaders, explorers, and secret agendas change every campaign.
What it's about
Strangers from outside the galaxy. Two new Factions, secret agendas, and radically new storylines.
Arcs: Beyond the Reach is the large narrative expansion — what Cole Wehrle describes as "expansive and radical." It integrates into The Blighted Reach campaign by introducing two new Factions with identities originating from outside the normal space and time of the galaxy: the Invader, who gathers forces for a full-scale invasion, and the Scavenger, who infiltrates ruined worlds in search of lost artifacts.
The central mechanism of this expansion is the secret agenda. Some Factions do not reveal who they truly are from the outset — is the stranger who arrived from outside truly the Successor they claim to be, or are they a Pretender exploiting the chaos in the Reach for their own purposes? The answer changes the trajectories of the entire campaign.
It is not a simple update to The Blighted Reach — it's an expansion that brings new storylines, new components, and new ways to build your Faction's identity over the course of a campaign.
The expansion in two lines
The Blighted Reach gave you a campaign. Beyond the Reach gives you new characters with secrets — and the question of who they truly are changes how everyone plays around you.
The secret of Beyond the Reach in one line
Cole Wehrle and Kyle Ferrin, now with Buried Giant Studios, bring Arcs' design philosophy to its most narrative point: storylines that jump in from outside the known galaxy.
From the design context
Arcs: Beyond the Reach
What the expansion adds
New Factions, secret agendas, radically different storylines
Beyond the Reach adds narrative layers to the Blighted Reach campaign without replacing its foundations. The new elements integrate into the existing Faction system.
The Invader
A new Faction that gathers forces for a full-scale invasion. Arrives from outside the known galaxy — with objectives, components, and storylines that no Blighted Reach Faction has ever had.
The Scavenger
Infiltrates ruined worlds in search of lost artifacts. A Faction based on exploration and retrieval — different in playstyle from all those existing in the base campaign.
Secret agendas
Some Factions do not reveal their true identity from the start. Is the stranger really the Successor they claim to be, or are they a Pretender taking advantage of the chaos? The answer changes everything.
New storylines from outside the Reach
Plotlines that come from outside known space, new components, and situations impossible to build with Blighted Reach alone. The "expansive and radical" expansion of the campaign system.
Beyond the Reach is not standalone. To play, you need Arcs: Conflict & Collapse in the Reach (base game) and Arcs: The Blighted Reach (campaign expansion). It cannot be used with the base game alone.
The campaign you knew had its limits. Beyond the Reach comes from outside those limits — and brings with it everything you didn't expect.

How the Campaign Changes
What Happens at the Table
Not the rules. The moments nobody expected.
The Stranger Enters the Campaign
Someone chooses a Faction from Beyond the Reach — Invader or Scavenger. The other players already know them as "the stranger from outside the Reach." But they don't yet know their true agenda. That question remains open throughout the campaign.
The Secret Agenda Begins to Take Shape
As the campaign progresses, the stranger makes choices that can reveal — or conceal — their true nature. Are they the legitimate Successor? Or a Pretender taking advantage of the chaos? Observers look for clues. The player playing the stranger tries not to give any.
The Invader Gathers Their Forces
If the stranger is the Invader, the galaxy feels the pressure of something coming from outside. Resources shift, alliances recalibrate. It's no longer just about who controls the Reach — there's something that wants to invade it.
The Scavenger Finds What They Were Looking For
In the worlds destroyed by the previous campaign, the Scavenger has moved patiently. They've found an artifact — or at least they claim to have found one. What changes for everyone else depends on what that object truly is, and what the Scavenger intends to do with it.
The Final Revelation
The campaign concludes with a question that only now finds an answer. Was the stranger who they claimed to be? The plots built around their presence retroactively change meaning. Each game ends with the feeling of having lived a story that could not be predicted.
How it Integrates into the Campaign
New Elements in Four Steps
Beyond the Reach integrates into the Blighted Reach structure without replacing it. The new Factions and secret agendas are grafted onto the existing system.
During campaign setup, a player can choose one of the new Factions — Invader or Scavenger. These Factions originate from outside the Reach and bring with them components, plotlines, and objectives not present in the Blighted Reach.
Some Factions receive a secret agenda — Successor or Pretender. This identity is known only to the player who holds it. Their actions during the campaign can confirm or contradict the public declaration of their nature.
The plotlines of Beyond the Reach are activated during the campaign acts. They arrive from outside the known galaxy, introducing situations and components that the base Blighted Reach system could not generate.
At the conclusion of the campaign, secret agendas are revealed. The truth about the stranger's identity determines how their actions are interpreted — and can change the meaning of the entire campaign just concluded.
Why This Expansion Is Different
Six Reasons to Add Beyond the Reach to Your Campaign
Plotlines from Outside the Galaxy
The Blighted Reach tells the story of the Reach from within. Beyond the Reach brings plotlines from outside — forces and agents that do not belong to the known galaxy and radically change the direction of the campaign.
The Secret Agenda Mechanism
It's not just asymmetry of roles — it's asymmetry of information about identity. Who is the stranger? Successor or Pretender? The answer is hidden, and its unveiling builds narrative tension throughout the campaign.
The Invader as External Pressure
A Faction built around large-scale invasion — with objectives, mechanics, and components designed to represent a force coming from outside. It's not just another regent fighting for control: it's something different.
The Scavenger in Destroyed Worlds
A Faction centered on exploration and retrieval. It moves through the places the campaign has already consumed — the worlds destroyed by previous sessions — searching for what others have left behind.
Unprecedented Components and Systems
Beyond the Reach brings "wild new components" — as Wehrle describes them. It's not a collection of variations on existing mechanics: it introduces elements that the base campaign system could not foresee.
Design by Buried Giant Studios
First expansion published under the new studio founded by Cole Wehrle and Kyle Ferrin after their separation from Leder Games. Buried Giant now holds the rights to Arcs — this expansion is the first sign of where the game's design is headed.
The Two New Factions
Invader and Scavenger: Who Are the Strangers
Two Factions built on opposing game philosophies — one attacks on a large scale, the other moves in the shadow of what is already gone.
The Invader
- Gathers forces for a large-scale invasion of the galaxy
- Arrives from outside the normal space and time of the Reach
- Brings components and plotlines that represent an external threat
- Their secret agenda determines whether they are a Successor or a Pretender
The Scavenger
- Infiltrates the worlds destroyed by the ongoing campaign
- Seeks lost artifacts in places already consumed by other Factions
- Gameplay style centered on exploration and retrieval
- Also carries a secret agenda to be revealed throughout the campaign
Arcs: Beyond the Reach is the expansion that takes the Blighted Reach campaign into new narrative territories. Strangers, secret agendas, and external forces irreversibly change every game.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Arcs: Beyond the Reach
Can I use Beyond the Reach without having completed a Blighted Reach campaign?
No. Beyond the Reach integrates into the Blighted Reach campaign system and is not intended for those unfamiliar with that level of the game. Before adding this expansion, it is necessary to have played at least one complete campaign with Blighted Reach to have the necessary narrative and mechanical context.
Does the secret agenda mechanism only work with new Factions or also with base ones?
According to available information, secret agendas are specifically introduced by Beyond the Reach and are associated with the new campaign Factions. Wehrle describes agendas as a new mechanism that "some Factions" use — related to the narrative of the external stranger and the Successor/Pretender question.
How many plotlines does Beyond the Reach add to the campaign?
Precise details have not yet been published — the expansion has been announced but not yet distributed. Wehrle describes it as "expansive and radical," with new plotlines coming from outside the galaxy and unprecedented components. The exact number of narrative seeds will be communicated with the official material.
Is it compatible with Lost Vaults & Fated Leaders?
These are expansions with different purposes: Lost Vaults & Fated Leaders is designed for the base game, Beyond the Reach is for the Blighted Reach campaign. They are not in conflict, but operate on different levels of the Arcs system. Those who have both the base game and Blighted Reach can use them in separate contexts.
Is Buried Giant Studios the new publisher of Arcs?
Yes. Cole Wehrle and Kyle Ferrin left Leder Games at the beginning of 2026 to found Buried Giant Studios, taking with them the rights to Arcs and Oath. Leder Games retains Root. Beyond the Reach is the first expansion published under the new studio — the future of Arcs' design is now in the hands of Buried Giant.
Is Beyond the Reach available in Italian?
This is the English edition. Like the entire Arcs system, the text on the components is in English. An Italian edition is not available. Given the narrative complexity of this expansion — with plotlines, secret agendas, and scenario texts — understanding English is particularly important.
Arcs: Beyond the Reach is a narrative expansion for the Arcs: The Blighted Reach campaign, designed by Cole Wehrle and illustrated by Kyle Ferrin, published by Buried Giant Studios. It requires both the Arcs base game and The Blighted Reach expansion. For 2–4 players, ages 14+, 60–120 minutes per session. Mechanics: Variable Player Powers, Campaign/Battle Card Driven, secret identities, emergent narrative. English edition. Available on FroGames.it.
