The FroGames Card
You place the portal tile, cross through, discover the treasure room. Your deck is weak but you're lucky: the perfect relic. Someone makes a noise. The dragon wakes up. You run towards the exit as the cube bag fills up. Someone will die down here.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Every descent is unique, every dragon wakes up differently
Paul Dennen takes the Clank! saga into new territory: the catacombs of Umbrok Vessna, a skeletal dragon sleeping under mountains of treasure. The Dire Wolf art team — from Raul Ramos to Nate Storm — has built a dungeon made of modular tiles that changes shape every game. It's not an expansion: it's a standalone game that inherits the core of Clank! (competitive deck-building, push-your-luck on the dragon) and refounds it with board construction.
You play cards to buy new abilities, use movement points to cross portals and shrines, free prisoners, collect relics and try to escape before the dragon buries you. Every noise you make (the 'clank' of the title) ends up in a bag: when the dragon attacks, it draws cubes. If your color comes out, you lose health. The one who accumulates the most points and survives wins. Whoever stays too deep dies even if they had the best treasure.

Catacombs brings the modular board Clank! has always deserved.
— The Dice Tower
It's the first time we open Clank! and really feel *inside* the catacombs. The ever-changing board is not a gimmick: it changes the pace, the tension, the choices. And it adds replay value without adding rules.

Clank!: Catacombs
What's in the box
Tiles, portals and an unforgiving dragon
Modular dungeon tiles
Build the board during the game. Each tile adds rooms, corridors, portals. The path always changes: no muscle memory, just exploration.
Teleportation portals
Enter a room, discover a portal, find yourself on the other side of the dungeon. Shorten (or lengthen) the escape. They change everything.
Shrines and prisoners
Stopping at a shrine gives you immediate rewards. Freeing a prisoner earns points at the end of the game. But every second lost is another dragon attack.
Dragon bag
Every noise (clank) adds cubes of your color. When the dragon attacks, it draws them randomly. If yours comes out, you lose health. The more noise you make, the more you risk.

🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each turn
Each turn is quick: you play your hand, buy new cards, move through the dungeon. The dragon attacks when certain cards are drawn.
Reveal your hand: gain skill points (to buy cards), movement points (to move), sword points (to defeat monsters). Some cards make clank: add cubes of your color to the dragon's bag.
Spend skill points to buy stronger cards from the central market or the dungeon reserve. Purchased cards go into your discard pile (they'll enter your deck later). Build the engine you need.
Spend movement points to cross rooms. If you enter an undiscovered room, draw and place a new dungeon tile. Portals, shrines, prisoners, monsters: each tile changes the cards on the table. Collect treasures if you land on them.
If a card with a dragon symbol was drawn during the turn, the dragon attacks: draw cubes from the bag. Each cube of your color = 1 damage. When you run out of health, you're KO'd. If you're still in the dungeon when you die, points = zero.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The first step into the dark
You place the first dungeon tile. You don't know where the exit is yet, but you know there's a big treasure somewhere. Everyone buys basic cards from the market: some focus on movement, some on coins. The first move defines who you are. The dragon sleeps. For now.
The shrine that's worth too much
You find a shrine: stopping gives you powerful cards or immediate points. But others advance. You decide to risk it. You make clank. Someone else makes more. The bag fills up. The dragon hasn't attacked yet, but everyone knows it's a matter of turns.
The portal that changes everything
You enter a room, discover a portal. It teleports you to the other side of the dungeon, near a worthwhile relic. The others curse: they had planned a different route. You're ahead. But also further from the exit. And the dragon has just attacked for the first time.
The moment you decide to run away
You have a decent treasure. You could get another, but the bag is full of your color. Someone is already out. Someone else is still at the back and keeps making noise in despair. You decide: one last round or an immediate sprint. This is the moment you'll remember.
Who made it and who didn't
You count the points. Those who left with little are alive. Those who stayed too long lie in the catacombs with a legendary relic and zero points. Those who found the right portal at the right time win. The dragon goes back to sleep. Someone immediately proposes a rematch: the dungeon will be completely different.
🐸Things to know beforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
Things to know beforehand
Three things you need to know
Setup requires patience
The modular construction of the dungeon is the game's strong point, but it means that each game starts with 5-10 minutes of preparation: shuffling tiles, preparing decks, explaining portals. It's not a filler to pull out in 2 minutes. The first setup can take up to 15 minutes with new players.
Downtime with 4 analytical players
If you play with 4 people and someone is slow to decide which card to buy or which path to take, turns will be longer. The game does not have simultaneous mechanics: you wait for your turn. With the right group it flows quickly, with the wrong group it drags. With 2-3 players it's smoother.
The dragon can be ruthless or merciful
The random bag system is great for tension, bad for those who hate variance. You can make little clank and get hit 4 times in a row. Or make a lot of noise and come out unscathed. It's pure push-your-luck: if you want total control, this is not the right game.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The winner is the one who scores the most points from major treasures, relics, cards bought during the game, freed prisoners, and various bonuses. But only if they make it out of the catacombs alive.
Victory
- You accumulated points from major treasures, relics, and cards bought during the game
- You exited the catacombs before the dragon killed you
- You scored more points than anyone else who survived (the dead score zero)
Elimination
- Your health drops to zero while you're still in the dungeon: your points become zero
- You exited alive but with fewer points than other survivors
- The dragon entered 'total fury' (the last attack of the game) and you weren't out: you lost
Clank! Catacombs is a fast-paced deck-building game, ever-changing exploration, and a dragon that doesn't forgive greed. If you're looking for a competitive dungeon crawler that doesn't take itself too seriously but makes you sweat every choice, this is the right game.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Clank!: Catacombs
Do you need to know other Clank! games to play Catacombs?
No. Clank! Catacombs is completely standalone: rules, cards, components all included. If you've already played classic Clank! or expansions, you'll understand the system in 5 minutes. If it's your first Clank!, the manual guides you very well. You can mix in cards from previous expansions if you own them, but it's not necessary.
Does the modular board complicate the game much?
Setup is longer (10 minutes instead of 5), but during the game it's very simple: draw a tile, place it adjacent to an existing one, follow the icons. Portals require a round of explanation, then become intuitive. The advantage is huge: infinite replayability, no memorized optimal paths.
How much does luck count compared to strategy?
The dragon is pure luck (random bag), but you control how much clank you make and when you exit. Dungeon tiles appear randomly, but you choose where to go. Market cards are variable, but you build your deck. It's a game where strategy mitigates luck, it doesn't eliminate it. If you're looking for a deterministic Eurogame, look elsewhere.
What mechanics does Clank! Catacombs use?
Deck-building (buy cards to improve your deck), point-to-point movement (move between connected rooms), push-your-luck (decide when to exit), tile placement (build the dungeon by playing), player elimination (if you die your points reset), open drafting (everyone sees available cards in the market).
Is the edition for sale in Italian?
No. This edition is in English. The components have text on the cards (abilities, effects, names) and in the manual. A basic knowledge of gaming English or the use of a translated reference is needed. There are currently no official Italian editions of Clank! Catacombs.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
