Someone reads the paragraph aloud. Someone calculates the odds. Someone flips the card and the table falls silent. Then everyone talks at once.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A journey into darkness, after the story seemed to be over
Journey to the Shadow Realm continues the story of Dragon Eclipse beyond the base game's ending. Designed by Kamil 'Sanex' Cieśla and Wojciech Zieliński for Awaken Realms, it opens the doors to a world of darkness: despite your efforts, not all portals have been closed, and one in particular is opening wider and wider. Three new narrative scenarios, over 10 hours of gameplay, and six new Mystlings with unique abilities and dedicated decks.
It's up to you, the hero of the Eclipse period, to enter that alien world and discover what powers the portal. You face a cooperative campaign where choices in the Adventure Log have consequences, explore new locations, and battle creatures that don't follow the logic of the surface world. The expansion also extends the Roguelite mode with a dedicated map and a set of cards to use the new Mystlings in the base game. Requires the Dragon Eclipse base box.
The Secret of the Shadow Realm
It's not the base game with dark textures: it's a world with its own rules, beyond the portals you couldn't close.
The secret of the Shadow Realm in a nutshell
Six new Mystlings, six different adversaries. The story picks up right where you thought it ended.
From the game experience
Dragon Eclipse: Journey to the Shadow Realm
Dragon Eclipse is designed for solo play and the experience remains complete: the three scenarios work perfectly on their own and the Roguelite extension is designed for repeated solo sessions. Requires the base game.

What happens beyond the portals
Not the rules. The experience.
The portal that won't close
You've closed almost all the portals. But one keeps opening, wider and wider. Open the new Adventure Log, read the first paragraph, and realize that the main game's story was just the beginning. It's up to you to enter the alien world.
The first Shadow Mystling
Beyond the portal, you encounter creatures that defy the logic of the surface world. The first of the six new Mystlings challenges you: new abilities, a dedicated deck, behavior you must learn to decipher in combat.
Explore the Shadow Realm
The Location Module opens over 7 new maps: lands without dawn, ruins, boundaries where reality bends. Each location has its own dangers and choices. The Log records your decisions, and every choice leaves its mark.
The combo that turns the tide
Mid-campaign, you master the new Mystlings and cards. You play a perfectly fitting sequence and turn around a seemingly lost combat. This is the moment you'll recount later.
What fuels the portal
Three scenarios, over 10 hours of gameplay, and you finally discover what keeps the portal open. The campaign concludes — but the six Mystlings remain, ready for your Roguelite runs with the new dedicated map.
How to play
The flow of each round
The expansion uses the same mechanics as the base game: fast, tactical rounds with no downtime. The Mystlings, locations, and story change.
Draw up to your maximum hand size. Look at the Shadow Realm map, the new opposing Mystlings, the positions. Decide which card to play first.
Movement, attack, special abilities. The new expansion cards broaden combos: each card has a cost, effect, and conditions that activate in sequence.
The Shadow Mystlings act according to their cards: they move, attack, activate new abilities. Some react to your moves, others follow their own patterns.
Check for victory or defeat. Between encounters, read the Adventure Log, make narrative choices, and continue the campaign beyond the portals.
Why the expansion is worth it
Six things it brings to the table
The Shadow Realm, not just a dark palette
An alien world with its own rules, beyond the portals you couldn't close. Atmosphere, dangers, and creatures that don't exist in the base game.
Six new Mystlings, six opponents
Six new creatures with miniatures, unique abilities, and dedicated card sets. Each is a different tactical puzzle: you learn to defeat them by understanding how they think.
A new campaign of +10 hours
Three new scenarios and 50 pages of Adventure Log continue the story after the base game's ending. Your choices are recorded and matter.
Over 7 new location maps
The Location Module brings new scenarios to explore in the world of darkness, each with its own dangers and narrative branching paths.
Extended Roguelite mode
A new map section and a card set allow you to use the six Shadow Mystlings in the base game's Roguelite runs. Replayability multiplies.
Integrates with the base game
It uses Mystlings, cards, and mechanics from the core box and expands them with almost 200 new cards. Requires the Dragon Eclipse base box to play.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Each Shadow Realm scenario has different objectives. But the win and loss conditions are always clear.
Victory
- Defeat the Shadow Mystlings in the scenario
- Complete the narrative objective of the Log (reach a location, survive, protect)
- Discover what fuels the portal and complete the campaign
Defeat
- All your Mystlings on the field are KO (hit points at zero)
- Fail the narrative objective of the scenario
- In Roguelite mode: lose the run and start over
Foray into the Shadow Realm is for those who loved Dragon Eclipse and want to know what lies beyond the portals. A campaign that continues the story, six new opponents, and content that integrates with the base game. Solo or cooperative.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Foray into the Shadow Realm
Is the base game required to play?
Yes. Foray into the Shadow Realm is a campaign expansion that requires the Dragon Eclipse base box. It uses the Mystlings, mechanics, and components of the core box, and expands them with new cards, creatures, locations, and a new campaign.
Do I need to have finished the base game campaign?
The expansion's story takes place after the ending of the base Dragon Eclipse game. It's best played having completed (or at least being familiar with) the main campaign, as it picks up that storyline: the portals you couldn't close. Nothing prevents you from tackling it earlier, but some narrative references will have more weight once the base campaign is concluded.
What exactly does it add to the experience?
A new campaign with three scenarios and over 10 hours of gameplay, six new Mystlings with miniatures, abilities and dedicated decks, a new Adventure Log of about 50 pages, over 7 new location maps and almost 200 cards. Plus, it extends the Roguelite mode with a dedicated map to use the new Mystlings in the base game.
How long does it last?
The campaign adds over 10 hours of gameplay, distributed across the three scenarios (approximately 60–120 minutes per session, in line with the base game). Plus the extended Roguelite mode, which adds replayability with the six new Mystlings.
Is it available in English?
Yes, this is the English edition distributed by Asmodee Italia. Rulebook, Adventure Log, cards and narrative scenarios are translated. Miniatures and components are language-independent.
