FroGames Card
You have four ingredients in hand and three recipes promising points. One would put you in the lead, but the other blocks your opponent. Choose. You have six rounds, not one more.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
A combo race where every card counts
Muffin's Kitchen is the new card game by D. Brad Talton Jr., founder of Level 99 Games and author of over 100 games since 2010. Announced at GAMA Expo 2026, the game brings to the table the challenge of building the most valuable ingredient hands to satisfy ever-changing recipes.
At the table, you draw and manage ingredient cards, trying to assemble combinations that meet the conditions of the recipes available each round. You have only 6 rounds to accumulate points, and you must decide whether to focus on a few high-value recipes or diversify across multiple objectives. Every card you hold is a card you won't draw again.

This is an initial review. The game has just been announced and we haven't been able to get our hands on it yet. The card will be updated as soon as we have more verifiable information and reviews. For now: the idea intrigues us, the author has a solid track record.

What you find in the box
The game elements
Ingredient cards
Each card has a value and can be part of different combinations. You have to figure out which ones to keep and which to discard.
Recipe cards
A new set appears each round. They have specific conditions to meet and are worth different points.
Variable conditions
One recipe might ask for high-value cards, another for specific combinations. You can't satisfy them all.
Six total rounds
The timer is fixed. There's no time to recover: every round counts, every mistake has consequences.

How to play
The flow of each round
Each round follows an identical structure, but decisions change based on the available recipes.
The recipe cards for the current round are flipped. Everyone sees the conditions and values at stake.
You draw new cards, choose which ingredients to keep and which to discard. Build towards the recipes you want to complete.
When your hand meets a recipe's condition, you can claim it and earn its points.
Uncompleted recipes disappear. New recipes will arrive, but the cards you discarded don't come back.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup and first cards
You deal out the recipes for the first round and draw your starting hand. You look at the conditions, calculate the possible values. Someone already knows what they want to do, someone else is still deciding.
The first trade-off
You have to decide: do you build for that 8-point recipe or keep versatile cards for the next round? Someone discards, someone draws. The table is silent, focused.
Round 3, mid-game
The recipes change again and you realize that the strategy you had planned no longer works. Those who kept flexible cards are now smiling. Those who bet everything on a specific combo are cursing.
The decisive round
You're in the fifth round and points are tight. A perfect recipe can turn everything around, but it requires ingredients you discarded three turns ago. Someone risks everything on a difficult combo.
Last round, final counts
The last recipes appear. You tally the points, someone did better than you thought. You reveal your final combinations: there's always someone who kept a perfect move hidden until the last moment.

Three things to keep in mind
Six rounds are very few
You don't have time for long-term strategies. Every lost turn is a missed opportunity. You have to decide quickly and accept that you can't complete all the recipes.
Drawing matters, but less than management
You can draw bad cards, of course. But the game gives you tools to mitigate: discard, keep versatile cards, change priorities. Those who complain about luck have probably just mismanaged their hand.
Imperfect scaling
With 5 players, the table can become chaotic and some recipes might be contested by too many. With 2, it's more calculated but less varied. The sweet spot seems to be 3-4 players.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat rewards the end▼
How it ends
How to win
After six rounds, whoever has accumulated the most points by completing recipes wins.
Victory
- Completing high-value recipes in key rounds
- Balancing between a few complex recipes or many simple ones
- Managing your hand without wasting valuable cards
How you lose points
- Building for recipes that then disappear before you complete them
- Keeping overly specialized cards that are no longer needed
- Getting distracted by impossible combos while others accumulate steady points
Muffin's Kitchen promises to be a fast but not trivial strategic filler, where every card counts and six rounds pass quickly. It remains to be seen if it will keep its promise.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Muffin's Kitchen
How strategically deep is it?
It's a light game, not a brain-burner. There is strategy (hand management, timing, recipe priorities), but don't expect five-turn plans. It's more a game of tactical optimization round by round.
Does it work well with 2 players?
Probably yes, but with less chaos and more calculation. With two, the competition for recipes is direct and predictable. If you're looking for a quick tactical duel, it can work, but the game seems designed for groups of 3-4.
Is it suitable as a gateway game?
On paper, yes: simple rules (basic hand management), 30-minute games, no complex setup. The muffin theme is accessible and the mechanics are intuitive. It could be a good bridge between party games and real strategy games.
What mechanics does Muffin's Kitchen use?
Mainly hand management: you draw, keep, discard ingredient cards to build combinations that satisfy recipes. There's also an element of set collection and value optimization over a fixed number of rounds.
Is it available in Italian?
No, this edition is in English. The game uses cards with text (recipes, conditions), so knowledge of English is necessary to play. There are currently no official translations.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
Muffin's Kitchen is a competitive card game for 2-5 players lasting 30 minutes, recommended age 14+. Designed by D. Brad Talton Jr. and published by Level 99 Games in 2026, the game is based on hand management mechanics: players build hands of ingredients to complete variable recipes in just six rounds. Each round presents new recipes with different conditions and values, and players must quickly decide whether to aim for a few complex recipes or diversify across multiple objectives. The pressure of the fixed timer and managing limited resources make every card important. Available on FroGames.it.
