Choose your lane. Summon a creature, protect the landscape, wait for your opponent's turn. Then watch the damage hit your life points directly and realize that lane was undefended.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
The cult episode card game becomes a four-lane duel
Card Wars originates from one of the most beloved episodes of Adventure Time, the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Cartoon Network series. When Jake drags Finn into a game of his favorite card game, the episode becomes an affectionate parody of competitive CCGs. Cryptozoic Entertainment transformed that fiction into a real game system, and this 2025 Collector's Pack brings Flame Princess (with the fiery LavaFlats deck) and Fern (with NiceLands and Cornfield for growing creatures) to the table.
At the table, you play on four battle lanes, each formed by a landscape for each player. You summon creatures, place buildings, cast spells. Creatures fight along their lane: if they encounter an enemy, they clash; otherwise, they directly hit the opponent's life points. The new Burn tokens accumulate fire damage, and HP Trackers monitor heroes' health. The winner is the one who reduces their opponent from 25 HP to zero.
What they say abroad
"Will you grow bigger and stronger Creatures with Fern's NiceLands/Cornfield deck, or will you watch the world burn with Flame Princess's LavaFlats deck?"
Will you grow bigger and stronger creatures with Fern's NiceLands/Cornfield deck, or will you watch the world burn with Flame Princess's LavaFlats deck?
— Cryptozoic Entertainment
It's a game that promises to bring the spirit of the Card Wars episodes to the table: fast-paced matches, asymmetrical decks, a lane system that keeps everything under control. Once we've played a few games, we'll update this card with the full verdict.

Adventure Time Card Wars: Flame Princess vs. Fern
What you'll find in the box
The two decks and new 2025 mechanics
Flame Princess's LavaFlats Deck
40 cards focused on fire damage. LavaFlats creatures generate Burn tokens that accumulate damage over time, volcanic landscapes that boost attack, and spells that make enemy lanes explode.
Fern's NiceLands/Cornfield Deck
40 cards focused on growth: creatures that get stronger by staying in play, buildings that boost cultivated fields, abilities that call for reinforcements from peaceful lands. Defense and long-term value accumulation.
HP Tracker and new tokens
This edition introduces HP Trackers to monitor heroes' life points, Attack tokens to mark power-ups, and the aforementioned Burn tokens. Eight landscape tiles form the four battle lanes.
Two oversize Hero cards
Flame Princess and Fern as large format hero cards, each with their own special ability. Heroes start with 25 HP and are the ultimate target: eliminate the opposing hero to win the game.
🎲How to PlayThe rules in four steps▼
How to Play
The Flow of Each Turn
Two Action Points to build, one attack phase to strike. Then pass the turn.
At the start of your turn, you draw a card from your deck. If you have abilities that let you draw extra cards (buildings, FLOOP creatures), resolve them now. Your hand fills with options.
You can play creatures (cost 0-2 AP), buildings (cost 1-2 AP), spells (variable cost). Creatures go on a specific lane, buildings boost landscapes, spells have immediate effects. Choose carefully: every card costs resources.
Some creatures have special abilities that can be activated by flipping the card (the FLOOP, a parody of Magic's 'tap'). You can use them once per turn: draw cards, deal damage, destroy enemy creatures, place Burn tokens.
All your creatures attack simultaneously along their lane. If they encounter an enemy creature, they clash (mutual damage), otherwise the damage goes straight to the opposing hero. Resolve active Burn tokens, update HP Trackers, pass the turn.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup: choose your hero
You unroll the landscapes, shuffle your deck, place your Hero card. In front of you are four empty lanes. Each lane consists of your landscape and an opponent's: LavaFlats against NiceLands, Cornfield against Cornfield. You draw your starting hand and decide which lane to occupy first.
First turns: territorial control
You have two Action Points per turn. You summon a creature in the central lane, your opponent responds with a building that enhances their fields. You place a second monster in another lane. The table slowly fills, each choice closing a future option. No one has attacked yet.
Mid-game: the first creatures fall
You start the attack phase. Your creatures advance along the lanes: one finds an enemy defender and they eliminate each other, another strikes directly at their HP. The opponent loses 3 life points and in their turn summons reinforcements, activates a FLOOP ability that makes you discard a card. Tension rises, each lane becomes a small battlefield.
Turning point: Burn tokens arrive
Flame Princess plays a devastating LavaFlats creature. Not only does it deal immediate damage: it places Burn tokens that will remove HP every turn. Fern must decide whether to sacrifice creatures to block or accept the accumulated damage and aim for a massive counterattack. The margin of error narrows.
Endgame: final wave
One of the two heroes is below 10 HP. All Action Points go into a single move: boosted creatures, final spells, open lanes. The attack goes through, damage accumulates, HP Trackers drop to zero. Game over. Collect the cards, swap decks, and start again: in 30 minutes there's always time for a rematch.

Pre-constructed, non-customizable decks
This Collector's Pack contains two fixed 40-card decks. You don't build your own deck: you open the box and play immediately. This is an advantage for accessibility, but if you're looking for deep deckbuilding, you'll need to combine more Card Wars sets or move to games like Ashes or Summoner Wars.
Depends on the TV series for flavor
The game technically works even if you've never watched Adventure Time, but half the charm lies in the references: card names, quotes, characters. If the series means nothing to you, much of the humorous tone is lost and it remains just another asymmetrical card game.
Replayability linked to other sets
With only two decks, games quickly become familiar. The Card Wars line has other Collector's Packs (Prismo vs The Lich, Peppermint Butler vs Magic Man) and boosters. If you like the system, consider expanding: the sets are combinable.
🏆Victory and DefeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
Victory and defeat conditions
The player who reduces the opponent's hero from 25 HP to zero wins. Only one condition, no alternative victory.
Victory
- Reduce the opposing hero's hit points to zero with direct attacks along open lanes
- Accumulate damage over time with Burn tokens, recurring FLOOP abilities, and persistent creatures
- Eliminate all enemy defenses and break through with a final wave of boosted creatures
Defeat
- Your hero reaches zero HP: immediate end of the game
- You leave too many lanes open and take massive direct damage in a single turn
- You run out of cards in hand without being able to defend or counterattack effectively
A card game that plays in 30 minutes, with immediate rules and two asymmetrical heroes ready to use. If you're looking for quick duels without deck construction, this is your entry point.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Adventure Time Card Wars: Flame Princess vs. Fern
Can I play Card Wars without knowing the Adventure Time series?
Yes, the game works independently of the series. The rules are clear, the lane system is intuitive. However, half the charm lies in the references: if you've never seen the "Card Wars" episode, you'll miss the quotes, the irony, the context of the characters. It remains a solid 1v1 competitive card game, but with less personality.
Are the two decks balanced or is one stronger?
According to the publisher, the decks are balanced for direct dueling. Flame Princess focuses on burst damage and Burn tokens, Fern on growth and resilience. Different playstyles, not a clear hierarchy. With only 7 votes on BGG, we don't yet have statistical consensus: we will update as soon as we have data.
Can I combine this set with other Card Wars Collector's Packs?
Yes, it is explicitly designed to be compatible. You can mix creatures, spells, and landscapes from different sets to build custom decks. The 2025 line includes Prismo vs The Lich and Peppermint Butler vs Magic Man, plus Lands of Legend boosters.
How long does a game actually last?
The publisher states 30 minutes. Based on the mechanics (2 AP per turn, simultaneous attack, no complex stacks), this seems realistic for players familiar with the cards. The first game with setup and explanation might take 45 minutes.
Is it available in Italian?
No, this edition is in English. The texts on the cards are essential (creature names, ability effects, costs), so a basic understanding of written English is required. There are no official or fan Italian translations for this Card Wars 2025 line.
