FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Anaphi is no longer seeking comrades-in-arms. She seeks revenge in the city's sewers, one step at a time, with the voices in her head screaming louder than her own.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Gloomhaven's most feared Mindthief, finally playable
Anaphi was part of the Jaws of the Lion, the city's deadliest mercenary group. Now she is alone. Designed by Alisandra Livingston and illustrated by Alexandr Elichev, this mercenary expansion brings one of the most beloved characters from Gloomhaven lore directly into your campaigns.
This Mercenary Pack introduces a dedicated ability deck, a miniature, and the ability to play Anaphi in Gloomhaven, Frosthaven, or Jaws of the Lion. The mechanics are classic to the system: hand management, simultaneous choices, tactical movement on a hexagonal grid. But Anaphi brings with her a unique identity: mind control, rapid movement, and a past that weighs heavily on her.
What they say abroad
One of the most requested classes by fans, finally expanded.

Gloomhaven: Mercenary Pack – Anaphi, Fallen Lion
Explicitly designed for solo play, with full compatibility with Gloomhaven, Frosthaven, and Jaws of the Lion campaigns. The system manages enemies and AI cleanly. The experience is identical to multiplayer from a mechanical standpoint, but more intense: you are alone with your choices.
The mercenary kit
What you'll find in the pack
Dedicated ability deck
Unique cards for Anaphi: mind control, agile movement, direct damage. Each card has dual use (top/bottom), as in the classic Gloomhaven system.
Character miniature
The plastic mindthief, ready to be painted or played immediately. Compatible with all three core game boxes of the system.
Character sheet
Stats, health points, progression. Anaphi grows with the campaign, gains perks, unlocks new cards. Integrated legacy system.
Cross-game compatibility
Works with Gloomhaven, Frosthaven, and Jaws of the Lion. Choose your favorite campaign and bring Anaphi into it.
By the end of the campaign, Anaphi will have found something. Perhaps revenge. Perhaps redemption. Or perhaps just more voices in her head.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Scenario Setup
You set up the map, place the enemies, choose Anaphi's cards to bring into battle. You study the room layout, understand where they'll corner you. You already know it's going to be tough.
The First Clash
You choose two cards, decide initiative. Enemies move according to AI, you try to anticipate them. You use mind control to turn an opponent against the others. It works. For now.
The room fills up
Reinforcements arrive. Your best cards are already in the discard pile. You have to choose whether to burn a powerful card to survive or save it for the final boss. There are no easy choices.
The mistake that changes everything
You miscalculate initiative. An enemy hits you before you can move. You lose health points that you won't recover. You realize that this scenario is won by a hair's breadth, if it's won at all.
Scenario End
You resolve the objective, collect the loot, update the campaign sheet. You gain experience, unlock a new card. You read the narrative paragraph: Anaphi continues to descend into the sewers. And you with her.
How to play
The flow of each round
Gloomhaven uses simultaneous choices: you decide your actions, then everything is executed in initiative order along with the enemies.
From your hand, you select two cards. Each has a top and a bottom action. You will use one of the two for each card.
One of the two chosen cards has an initiative value. That number decides when you act in the round. Enemies have their own, drawn from the AI deck.
From lowest to highest value: you and the enemies perform movement, attacks, special abilities. You use attack modifiers (dedicated deck) to resolve damage.
Used cards go to the discard or loss pile (depending on the card). When you run out of cards in hand, you rest: you recover the discard, but permanently lose one card.
Why it's different from the others
Six elements that make a difference
Real cross-compatibility
It's not marketing: Anaphi mechanically works in three different games. You bring the same deck to Gloomhaven (corrupted city), Frosthaven (frozen frontier), or Jaws of the Lion (urban districts). Each campaign uses her differently.
Tactical mind control
Anaphi is a mindthief: she uses abilities that manipulate enemies, turn them against their allies, slow them down. It's not brute force: it's field control. It requires setup and perfect timing.
Integrated legacy progression
You gain XP, unlock more powerful cards, add perks to the modifier deck. Growth is slow and earned. Every scenario makes you stronger, but also more attached to the character.
Closed deck, open choices
Anaphi's deck is fixed (you don't build it like in a deckbuilder), but the combinations between cards are infinite. Every scenario requires a different loadout: cards for burst damage or for long control.
Deep Lore
Anaphi is not an empty class. She is a character with a history, motivations, relationships with other mercenaries. By playing her, you discover pieces of narrative that intertwine with the main campaigns.
Clean AI system
Enemies don't require a master: they act according to predefined cards. Movement, targeting, special abilities: everything is automatic. You focus on your choices, the game handles the rest.
How it ends
How to win and how to fail
Every scenario has a specific objective (eliminate the boss, reach a room, survive N rounds). But failure is always around the corner.
Victory
- You complete the scenario objective before running out of cards or health points
- You unlock the next narrative paragraph, gain XP, collect loot and gold
- The campaign continues: you update the map, choose the next scenario, improve Anaphi
Defeat
- You run out of cards (you used too many loss abilities or rested too much) and can no longer play actions
- Health points drop to zero: Anaphi is exhausted, the scenario fails
- Some scenarios have specific failure conditions: timers, missed objectives, escaping enemies
This pack is not for those looking for a light evening. It's for those who want to bring a piece of iconic lore into a long, tactical, ruthless campaign, as only Gloomhaven can be.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Gloomhaven: Mercenary Pack – Anaphi, Fallen Lion
Can I play Anaphi without having completed Jaws of the Lion?
Yes, Anaphi is compatible with any Gloomhaven, Frosthaven, or Jaws campaign. You don't have to have finished anything: you can use her from the start. Of course, there are narrative spoilers related to her past, but mechanically she works immediately.
Is it a beginner-friendly class or does it require experience with the system?
It requires experience. Anaphi has a complex deck with mind control abilities, critical timing, and advanced initiative management. If it's your first time with Gloomhaven, it's better to start with a more straightforward base class. This one is for those who know the system and want to delve deeper.
Does the pack include dedicated scenarios or just the character?
Only the character: ability deck, miniature, character sheet. There are no new scenarios. You use Anaphi within the existing campaigns of the base games. She is a mercenary who fits into the already published stories.
Can I play it in multiplayer or is it solo only?
It's designed for solo play (1 player), but you can technically use her in a cooperative multiplayer game by replacing one of the standard characters. The mechanics work. However, the experience is optimized for solo: one player, one mercenary, one campaign.
Is it available in Italian?
No, this edition is in English. The text on the cards is essential (ability names, effects, numerical values), but those familiar with Gloomhaven already know how the system works. Basic English is needed to read the abilities and narrative paragraphs.
