The FroGames Board
Your snake is almost complete. Three tiles left to close, then victory. But your opponent places a tile that connects to yours: a chain reaction, five tiles flip, your snake is now theirs. You look at your hand, seeking revenge.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Hedonistic ouroboros that grow, break, and get stolen
Snakes of Wrath is a competitive abstract game for 2 players designed by Dan Cassaro and published by The Op Games in 2022. Born from a Kickstarter campaign, the game blends the provocative art of Kelly Thorn and Young Jerks with a ruthless connection mechanic: build snakes with tiles, hurt your opponents' snakes, and steal entire creatures with a single move.
Each player has 7 random double-sided tiles to build new snakes, grow their own, set traps, or connect their color to an enemy snake to steal it. Tiles flip, chain reactions trigger: one mistake and your masterpiece becomes the enemy's. Close all ends of your snakes to win.
What they say abroad
We are still exploring Snakes of Wrath: it's a fresh abstract game with few ratings on BGG, but the mechanics are solid. The board will be updated with community feedback.

Snakes of Wrath
Your weapons
Four tiles, four destinies
Double-sided snake tile
Each tile has two sides: one with your color, one with your opponent's. When it connects badly, it flips. A single wrong move and your snake becomes theirs.
Injury token
You place an injury token on an enemy snake. It blocks a head, slows growth, prevents closures. Use it to buy time or force your opponent to waste turns.
Chain reaction steal
Connect your color to an enemy snake: you steal it. But if the tile flips, a chain reaction can trigger, flipping other tiles. One blow can change the entire board.
Closure
Close all heads and tails of your snakes: you win. But every open head is an opportunity for your opponent to connect and steal. Victory is a millimeter-precise calculation.

🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each turn
Snakes of Wrath is simple: draw, place, evaluate. But every move can turn the tables.
You start the turn with 7 tiles in hand. If you have fewer (because you played previous turns), draw up to 7. Tiles are double-sided: one side with your color, one with your opponent's.
Choose a tile from your hand and place it on the table. You can: (a) create a new snake head, (b) grow an existing snake of your color, (c) connect your color to an enemy snake to steal it, (d) place an injury token on an opponent's head.
If the tile connects to a snake of the wrong color, it flips. If it flips, it can trigger a chain reaction: other connected tiles might flip in a cascade. Recalculate who owns each snake after the flips.
If you have closed all the heads and tails of your snakes (no open ends), you win immediately. If you have tiles in hand, the turn passes to your opponent. Otherwise, draw and start again.

A game in five moments
What happens on the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup and first heads
Draw 7 tiles each. You look at the double-sided tiles, calculate the openings. The first player places a head: the table is empty, the snake still just a promise. You respond with another head, far away. For now, it's polite.
Parallel growth
The snakes lengthen. You place tiles to grow yours, your opponent does the same. But each tile has two sides: you check that the connections don't turn against you. Meanwhile, you count his open heads: there are three, vulnerable.
First injury, first tension
The opponent places an injury token on one of your heads. The snake is blocked, you cannot close it until you remove the damage. You decide: spend a turn healing or go on the attack? You place a tile that connects to one of his smaller snakes. It flips. It's yours.
The chain reaction
Now it's war. The opponent connects a tile to your main snake: chain reaction. One tile flips, then another, then three more. Your 6-tile masterpiece is now his. You look at your hand: you have a tile that can turn everything around, but you have to wait for the right turn.
Race to close
You both have open snakes. Whoever closes all the heads first wins. You place the last tile: closure. But the opponent had bluffed, he still has an injury in reserve. He places it. Your snake reopens. He closes his. Game over. Silence, then bitter laughter.
🐸Good to know beforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
Good to know beforehand
Three things you need to consider
Random draw
You draw 7 random tiles at the start of the game and redraw when you play. You don't control what comes: you can find yourself with all offensive tiles and no defensive ones, or vice versa. Initial luck weighs, especially in the first 2-3 games when you haven't yet learned to read the table.
Provocative art
The theme is hedonistic snakes, Kelly Thorn's art is deliberately raw and a bit grotesque. It is not a game for small children or for those looking for traditional family-friendly illustrations. Check the images before buying if you play with a sensitive audience.
Fast but not immediate learning curve
The rules are learned in 5 minutes, but the tactical depth only emerges after 3-4 games. In the first two, you will tend to lose snakes due to unforeseen chain reactions. It's frustrating, then it becomes the beauty of the game. Expect a couple of didactic defeats.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Snakes of Wrath has only one victory condition: close all your snakes before your opponent.
Victory
- Close all the heads and tails of your color snakes (no open ends left on the table)
- Victory is immediate: you check at the end of the turn, if you meet the condition you win instantly
- It doesn't matter how many snakes the opponent has or how big they are: only total closure counts
Defeat
- The opponent closes all their snakes before you do
- You lose an almost complete snake due to a chain reaction steal and can't catch up
- You run out of tiles in hand without being able to close the open heads: the opponent wins by time
Snakes of Wrath is a nasty abstract game that rewards calculation and reading the opponent, but can be ruthless to those who make a wrong connection. If you are looking for a quick tactical duel with moments of epic thievery, this is the snake for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Snakes of Wrath
What mechanics does Snakes of Wrath use?
The main mechanics are tile placement (you place double-sided tiles on the table), hand management (you manage 7 random tiles), connections (you connect tiles to steal snakes or trigger flips), and a proprietary chain reaction mechanic that flips multiple tiles in sequence when a connection flips.
Do games really last 15-30 minutes?
Yes. The first games are around 25-30 minutes because you have to understand the flips and chain reactions. From the third game onwards, we go down to 15-20 minutes: quick setup, fast turns, sharp ending. It's a game that demands multiple rounds in an evening.
Does it work well with inexperienced players?
It works as a gateway for abstract games: simple rules, strong visual theme, high interaction. But be careful: chain reactions can frustrate beginners, and the graphic theme is not suitable for small children. Recommended for ages 10 and up (not 8+) for a real experience.
Is there an expansion or team mode?
BGG lists a team-based mechanic, but there are no verified details on how it works or if there are official rules. At the moment, Snakes of Wrath is tested and mainly played as a 1v1 duel. If reliable team variants emerge, we will update the card.
Is it available in Italian?
No. The edition for sale is in English. However, the game is almost language-independent: the tiles are symbols and colors, there is no text on components. You only need to read the initial rulebook (a few pages, simple English). No official Italian translation is available.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it - and what else they've done.
Snakes of Wrath is a competitive abstract game for 2 players, lasting 15-30 minutes, recommended for ages 8+. Designed by Dan Cassaro and published by The Op Games, the game uses tile placement, hand management, and connection mechanics to create tactical duels where you build snakes, steal opponent's snakes, and trigger chain reactions that turn the tables. Each game sees players placing double-sided tiles to grow their own snakes, damage enemy snakes with injury tokens, and attempt sudden steals by connecting their color to opponent's creatures. Victory comes by closing all the heads and tails of your snakes before your opponent. Available on FroGames.it.
