The FroGames Card
That colorful frog might be poisonous. Or maybe not. The jaguar is watching you. Someone is bluffing, someone else is waiting for the right moment to turn the card. And you no longer know who to believe.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
When secrecy is worth more than strength
Amazon Rainforest is a modular expansion for Nature, the eco-evolutionary system by Dominic Crapuchettes (Splendor, Werewords) with the extraordinary art of Vincent Dutrait. It brings the game to the Amazon rainforest, where poisons, exotic fruits, and invisible predators change the rules of survival.
The main novelty: traits are no longer revealed automatically. They remain face-down until you decide to activate them. Each hidden card is a threat, a bluff, or an ace up your sleeve waiting for the perfect moment. The game becomes an ecological poker match: deduction, timing, and lies at the table.
What they say abroad
This module adds a layer of bluff that transforms Nature into a game of reading opponents. It's not enough to build the best animal: you have to make them believe you've already done it.

Nature: Amazon Rainforest
The base game Nature supports solo play with official rules, and this expansion integrates. The bluff obviously disappears (you have no opponents to deceive), but the timing of reveals remains: you must decide when to activate traits to survive events and maximize points. A valid experience but it loses the psychological component which is the heart of the module.
What you find in the box
New elements for a hidden ecosystem
Poisonous frogs and resistance
Poison and poison resistance tokens. Some species become lethal, others immune. Poison is a perfect bluff: is that colorful frog deadly or just flashy?
Exotic fruits
Fruit tokens that monkeys seek and jaguars ignore. Each species has its own dietary priorities: taking or leaving a fruit communicates what you are (or what you want to appear to be).
Tropical pool
A new Amazonian watering hole added to the ecosystem. It changes movement dynamics and encounters between species.
5 new traits
Trait cards specific to the Amazon: nocturnal predators, mimicry, canopy adaptations. All playable face down and revealable when needed.

How to play
The flow of each round (with Amazon)
Amazon Rainforest doesn't change the basic phases of Nature, but adds a key rule: traits don't reveal automatically, you activate them when you want.
You draw and play traits as in base Nature, but you place them face down. No one knows what you have. You can decide to reveal a trait immediately (to use its effect) or keep it hidden (to bluff or surprise later).
Move, eat, interact. Bluffing matters here: if you approach a fruit, everyone thinks you're a monkey. If you avoid the watering hole, maybe you're thirsty but fear a predator. Every move communicates (or deceives).
At any time, you can flip a face-down trait to activate its effect. Poison resistance when attacked, camouflage to escape, poison to counterattack. Timing is everything: too early and they lose value, too late and you're dead.
Reproduce, migrate, survive. Revealed traits count towards victory conditions and objectives. Those still hidden provide no benefits but keep others guessing. Until you play your last card.
⏱️Your first gameThe story, moment by moment▼
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup and first doubt
You place your animal, take your first traits. You look at the others: face-down cards in front of everyone. No one knows what others have. No one even knows what you have. The game has already begun.
The first reveal
Someone flips a trait. A canopy adaptation, a poison, a resistance. The others watch, recalculate. That card changes everything: now they know what to avoid, or what to challenge. You keep yours hidden. For now.
The watering hole and the fruits
The Amazonian watering hole fills. Fruits appear. Someone approaches, someone doesn't. Every movement is a clue: monkeys look for fruit, jaguars hunt. If you avoid a fruit, you're saying something. If you take it, too.
The bluff that changes the game
Someone attacks thinking they're safe. You flip the card: poison resistance. Or lethal poison. Or camouflage. The table explodes. Laughter, curses, frantic recalculations. That move decides who survives and who doesn't.
The final revelation
End of game. Everyone flips their remaining cards. Someone had been bluffing all along, someone else really had the ace they were threatening. Points are counted, but the real story is who tricked whom, and who fell for it.
🐸What to know beforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
What to know beforehand
Three things you need to consider
Requires the base game
This is a modular expansion for Nature. You cannot play it without the core game. If you don't have Nature, start there: Amazon Rainforest is added later, when you want more bluffing and deduction at the table.
Bluffing is not for everyone
If your group hates poker, feints, psychological reads, this module won't work. Base Nature is already great without it. Amazon is for those who want to play with others' minds, not just with cards.
Modular system = infinite combos
You can combine Amazon with other modules (Flight, Jurassic, Climate...). Each combo changes the game. It's fantastic for replayability, but requires studying the interactions between expansions. The first time, go with just one module.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Victory conditions depend on the base Nature module you are using. Amazon Rainforest adds points for traits revealed at the right time and for species that survived with tropical adaptations.
Victory
- Maximize points by revealing traits on the most advantageous turn (more food, more reproduction, more survival)
- Survive with active poison resistance or camouflage, blocking opposing predators
- Complete specific Amazonian ecosystem objectives (fruits collected, watering holes controlled)
Elimination or defeat
- You reveal too early and opponents adapt their strategies to neutralize you
- You hold hidden traits for too long and don't get the necessary benefits to survive
- You bluff poorly: others figure out what you have (or don't have) and eliminate you before you can react
It's not just an expansion: it's a new way to play Nature, where every face-down card is a promise, a threat, or a perfect lie.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Nature: Amazon Rainforest
Can I play Amazon Rainforest without the Nature base game?
No. This is a modular expansion: it requires Nature (core game) to function. It adds components (watering hole, fruits, traits, poison tokens) and a key rule (face-down traits), but it is not standalone. You must have the base game to build the ecosystem, then add this module.
What mechanics does Nature: Amazon Rainforest use?
Bluffing and deduction through hidden information (face-down traits), tactical reveals (activating cards when needed), hand management, and timing. It builds on Nature's base system: hand management, tableau building, area control, adaptive evolution. The twist is that traits don't reveal automatically, but only when you decide.
How much does the game change compared to base Nature?
A lot. Base Nature is about optimization and open evolution: everyone sees what you have, decisions are tactical but transparent. With Amazon, it becomes poker: you have to read opponents, bluff, hide your moves, and reveal at the right time. If you like Nature for its strategic purity, you might prefer other modules (Flight, Jurassic). If you love bluffing, this is your module.
Can I combine Amazon Rainforest with other Nature expansions?
Yes, that's exactly the idea. The Nature system is modular: you can combine Amazon with Flight (less conflict), Jurassic (more aggression), Climate (environmental events) and others. There are over 700 possible combinations between the various modules. But beware: play only one module the first time, then experiment with combos when you know the interactions well.
Is this edition in Italian?
No, the edition for sale on FroGames is in English. It includes trait cards, tokens, tropical watering hole, and rules in English. The text on the cards is present (trait names, effects), so a good understanding of the language is required to play smoothly. There are currently no official Italian editions of this module.
