FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Someone lies about things that don't exist in the base game. Someone swears they saw impossible powers. And in the end, everyone wants to replay that cursed combination that made the table explode.
WHAT IT IS
The impossible script laboratory
The Carousel is the official experimental collection for Blood on the Clocktower, designed by Steven Medway with illustrations by Chloe McDougall. This expansion gathers 72 experimental characters you'll never find in the base scripts, designed for those who have already explored Trouble Brewing, Bad Moon Rising, and Sects & Violets and want to push further.
At the table, you build custom scripts by mixing these roles with never-before-seen mechanics: characters that change alignment, powers that activate only under absurd conditions, abilities that rewrite the rules of the game. Each combination creates a different game. Every evening becomes an experiment. And when it works — when everything clicks in unpredictable ways — the magic that makes BOTC unique happens.
What they say abroad
The Carousel is for those who truly understand Blood on the Clocktower. For those who want scripts no one has ever seen, for those who know the beauty is when the rules bend.

These characters are not balanced to be competitive. They are balanced to be memorable. And they always succeed.

Blood on the Clocktower: The Carousel – Experimental Character Collection
What's inside
72 experimental tokens and infinite possibilities
Characters that change alignment
Roles that start Good and become Evil (or vice versa) during the game. The table never knows who to trust.
Absurd conditional powers
Abilities that activate only if someone lies, if a player dies in a certain way, if the moon is in a specific phase (okay, not quite).
Never-before-seen mechanics
Characters who steal abilities, who only work during the day, who activate when everyone thinks they're dead. BOTC without limits.
Official physical tokens
72 tokens printed with Pandemonium Institute quality. The same care as the base game, for scripts the base game cannot contain.
In a few hours, you'll have a story that starts with 'you won't believe what happened with that experimental character'. It always happens with The Carousel.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The custom script comes to life
The Storyteller has built an unprecedented combination of experimental characters. No one knows what to expect. Everyone receives their roles and begins to study abilities they've never seen before. Someone already suspects this game will be different from all the others.
The first strange power explodes
Someone declares impossible information. A Good player who swears they're Evil. A dead player who votes. A character who shouldn't exist in this script. The table realizes that normal rules no longer apply.
Theories multiply
Everyone has a different explanation for what's happening. Someone has figured out the trick. Someone else is bluffing about a character that doesn't exist. No one knows what's true anymore, and that's precisely why no one wants to stop talking.
The unexpected revelation
A player reveals their true role, and the entire table erupts. It was true. It was all damn true. That absurd experimental character changed the entire game without anyone realizing it.
Everyone wants to play again immediately
The game ends, Good or Evil wins, but no one talks about the result. Everyone talks about that character, that combination, that crazy script that worked. And someone is already writing the next custom script.
How to play
The flow of each day/night
The Carousel uses the same phases as basic Blood on the Clocktower, but with characters that turn them upside down.
The Storyteller wakes characters in the order of the script. Experimental roles have complex night abilities: some change alignment, others steal powers, still others modify other players' information.
Everyone talks. Experimental characters create contradictory information, impossible situations, doubts about who is truly Good or Evil. No one ever knows who is lying.
Someone is nominated for execution. A vote is cast. Experimental powers can influence the vote in unpredictable ways: double votes, canceled votes, dead players voting.
If the Demon dies, the Good team wins. If the Evil team reaches a majority (2 living players, 2 living Evil players) or activates a special custom script condition, they win. With The Carousel, conditions can be stranger.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make the difference
Characters that change alignment
Some experimental roles start Good and become Evil during the game, or vice versa. The table never knows who to trust, because someone who was an ally yesterday might not be today.
Complex conditional powers
Abilities that activate only if someone lies, if a certain character dies, if a vote goes a certain way. Each game becomes a puzzle of intertwined conditions.
Never-before-seen mechanics
Characters that steal abilities from other players. Roles that only work during the day. Powers that activate when everyone thinks you're dead. BOTC without the limitations of the base game.
Infinite custom scripts
72 experimental characters mean almost infinite combinations. Each Storyteller can build the script they want, mixing base and experimental roles. No two games will ever be the same.
Requires the base game
The Carousel is not a standalone game. You need Blood on the Clocktower base and a deep understanding of its mechanics. These characters are for those who have already played dozens of games.
Balanced to be memorable
These roles are not designed for competitive tournaments. They are designed to create absurd moments, incredible revelations, stories you'll tell for months. And they always succeed.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The win conditions follow those of base BOTC, but custom scripts can modify them.
Victory
- Good wins if the Demon is executed during the day
- Evil wins if they reach a numerical majority (2 living, 2 living Evil)
- Some experimental characters can introduce alternative win conditions in the custom script
Elimination or defeat
- Players eliminated during the day become dead and lose their vote (with exceptions)
- Good loses if Evil reaches a numerical majority
- Some experimental characters can have unique loss conditions
The Carousel is for those who truly understand Blood on the Clocktower. For those who want scripts no one has ever seen, for those who know the fun is when the rules bend.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Blood on the Clocktower: The Carousel – Experimental Character Collection
Can I play The Carousel without the base game?
No. The Carousel is an expansion that absolutely requires a copy of Blood on the Clocktower base. It does not include Town tokens, Reminder tokens, Grimoire, or all the materials needed to play. It only includes the 72 experimental character tokens.
Are these characters balanced for competitive play?
No, and that's not their purpose. Experimental characters are designed to create memorable situations, strange combinations, impossible moments. They are for casual games among friends who want to experiment, not for tournaments or strictly balanced play.
How do I build a custom script with these characters?
You need to know BOTC and its mechanics very well. The Storyteller chooses which characters to include in the script (base + experimental), respecting the proportions of roles (Townsfolk, Outsider, Minion, Demon). There are online communities and tools like Blood on the Clocktower Script Tool to help you build and test scripts.
How many of these characters can I use in a single game?
As many as you want, as long as you respect the role proportions and script coherence. You can create a script with 2-3 experimental characters mixed with the base, or an entirely experimental script. The freedom is total, but it requires experience to understand what works.
Is it available in Italian?
No, this edition is in English. The tokens have the character's name and icon, but for abilities, you will need to consult the English reference (included or available online). If your group already knows BOTC, it won't be a problem.
