How good are you really (or how well can you bluff)
Chicken vs Hotdog is a party game of auctions and dexterity published by Big Potato Games in 2022. Illustrated by Beks Barnett, it presents itself with an irreverent tone and a simple question: who is better, chicken or hot dog? You decide the answer, slingshot in hand.
Each round, a challenge card is drawn. Everyone bids in secret: high if you think you can do it, low to avoid it. If the bids match, you go to Flipperama — the Sling'Em slingshot challenge. Whoever completes the challenge flips one of their six character cards. First to flip all of them wins, but between shots you'll discover that promising is easier than hitting the target.

Challenge Cards
Hundreds of trials: hit a target, bounce the disc, aim through an obstacle. Some are easy, others ridiculous.
Character Cards
Six cards with Chicken or Hotdog (depending on your team). Completing a challenge flips one. Six cards flipped = victory.
Bid Tokens
Secret bids: high if you think you can do it, low to avoid the challenge. When two players match, it's off to Flipperama.

How to play
The flow of each round
Each round is a new challenge: secret auction, coincidence, slingshot shot, card flip. Repeat until victory.
The round's challenge is revealed: shot type, target, difficulty. Everyone reads it and mentally decides whether they think they can do it or not.
Each player secretly chooses their bid token: high if they want to face the challenge, low to avoid it. They are all revealed together.
If two or more players have bid the same, they go to the Sling'Em shot. They must complete the challenge. Whoever succeeds flips one of their character cards.
The first player to flip all six of their character cards wins the game. The title of champion (Chicken or Hotdog) is awarded.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choosing a side
Everyone chooses: Team Chicken or Team Hotdog. Your six character cards are still face down. Someone gets familiar with the Sling'Em, a few practice shots go off the table. Laughter already.
First auction, first bluffs
The first challenge card is flipped. It seems easy. Everyone bids high in secret, confident. Then the tokens are revealed: two players have bid the same. Flipperama. One hits, the other doesn't. The first character card is flipped. The game has begun.
The impossible challenge
New card: "Hit the target after one bounce". Silence. Someone bids low to avoid it, someone else bids high to bluff. Coincidence: two players end up shooting. The one who seemed confident misses everything. The unsure one hits. The table erupts.
Desperate comeback
Someone has already flipped four cards. The others are chasing. Bids become psychological: do you bid high to force your opponent to shoot? Or do you bid low hoping the other does the same? Each round is a duel of nerves even before accuracy.
The last card
Two players one card away from victory. The final challenge is revealed. Coincidence. Both must shoot. One hits, flips the sixth card, raises their arms. The other laughs, blames the slingshot, promises revenge. Game over, but no one leaves the table.

Luck draws the cards
Challenges come out randomly. You can be great with the slingshot and only draw impossible cards, or be bad and find giant targets. The deck doesn't balance: accept the chaos.
Someone falls behind
If you make wrong bids (bid high but your opponent bids low, or vice versa), you never get to shoot. You can go three rounds without flipping a card while others race ahead. Frustrating but part of the game.
It runs out after a few close games
There are many challenge cards, but they are finite. If you play three games in a row, you'll start to recognize them. It works better as an opener or closer for an evening, not as the main event.

Victory is clear: flip all six of your character cards. Defeat is being left behind while others race ahead.
Victory
- You flip the sixth and final character card by completing a challenge
- Your team (Chicken or Hotdog) is declared champion
- You can win alone or as part of a team, depending on the chosen mode
Elimination or defeat
- There is no elimination: you stay in the game until the end
- You lose if an opponent flips all their cards before you do
- You can get stuck at zero cards flipped if you always make wrong bids or shots

Yes, it also works well with two (direct duel) or three. Of course, the energy increases with larger groups, but the mechanics remain solid: psychological auctions and challenges work for any number. From 6 players upwards it becomes chaotic in the best sense.
How much does accuracy really matter?
It matters, but it's not everything. You can be great with the slingshot and still lose if you always bid on the wrong challenges (and your opponent bids differently, so you never get to shoot). Bluffing in auctions is as important as hitting the target.
