The FroGames Review
You commission a golden-horned bull's head for the home altar. You organize sacred dances. The Great Mother might notice you. Or ignore you entirely. Until you roll that black die.
WHAT IT IS
When political power isn't enough and you need the gods
Dawn of Faith is the official expansion for Minos: Dawn of the Bronze Age, designed by Stan Kordonskiy and published by Board&Dice in 2025. It adds a religious dimension to the base game: Divine Favor, new black sacred dice, and unprecedented player abilities. The setting remains ancient Minoan Crete, but now your choices at the table also include votive offerings, ceremonial dances, and prayers to the Great Mother.
At the table, you offer sacred gifts, place the new black dice, and move up the Divine Favor track. Every step unlocks concrete blessings: victory points, coins, weapons, and stronger actions. The system integrates into the base game's dice draft without replacing it, adding a strategic layer that rewards those who know how to balance earthly expansion and celestial devotion. Requires the base game to play.
What they say abroad
"This expansion introduces Sacred Dice, a full Divine Favor track, and powerful player abilities that deepen the strategic core."
This expansion introduces sacred dice, a full Divine Favor track, and powerful player abilities that deepen the strategic core.
— Board&Dice
Dawn of Faith enriches Minos with a religious dimension that integrates perfectly into the flow of the base game. Those who know how to harness Divine Favor at the right time can turn the tide of the match, but it requires planning and timing. It is an expansion that completes, not complicates.

Minos: Dawn of Faith
The base game Minos supports solitaire with dedicated cards, and Dawn of Faith integrates into the solo mode without structural changes. The experience is complete but loses part of the competitive tension on the Divine Favor track, which in multiplayer becomes a race to reach it first.
What the expansion adds
Four elements that change the game
Black sacred dice
New custom dice that are drafted along with the others. They activate divine effects and unlock blessings on the Favor track. Every black die is a strategic choice: do you use it for the action or sacrifice it to the goddess?
Divine Favor track
A common path on which all players compete. Those who ascend obtain immediate rewards: victory points, coins, weapons. Those who reach the higher steps first earn permanent bonuses for the rest of the game.
New Decree cards
Brand new Decree cards mixed into the base deck. They boost divine offerings and create combos with personal abilities. Those who build the right tableau can multiply the effects of Favor.
Enhanced player abilities
Each clan receives new unique abilities linked to Divine Favor. Some allow you to climb the track faster, others transform blessings into resources or extra victory points.

How to play
The flow of each round with Dawn of Faith
The expansion integrates into the base game without replacing phases: it adds choices during the draft and new actions tied to Divine Favor.
As in the base game, but now the pool also includes black sacred dice. You draft them along with the others and decide whether to use them for normal actions or to climb the Favor track.
Assign dice to actions on your personal board. If you have black dice, you can place them on divine actions or combine them with the new Decree cards for enhanced effects.
Execute actions in order of die value, from highest to lowest. Divine offerings move you up the track and unlock immediate blessings: coins, weapons, victory points.
Points are tallied after the second and fourth rounds. Those who have accumulated Divine Favor get extra points from permanent bonuses unlocked on the track.

What happens at the table with Dawn of Faith
Not the rules. The experience.
First offerings
You draft dice as always, but now there are also black sacred dice. You look at them, you let them pass, then one comes back and you think: maybe it's time to invest in Favor. You place the die on the Offering action and move up one step on the track. The others watch you.
The race for the track
Someone climbed before you and took the best bonus of the round. You realize that the Divine Favor track is a race: whoever gets there first eats. You start planning subsequent turns thinking not just about earthly actions, but also about when and how to climb.
Blessings make the difference
You have accumulated enough Favor and now each of your turns is powered up. The new Decree cards combine with your personal abilities and divine offerings multiply the effects. Those who ignored the track must catch up with other strategies.
The decisive black die
A sacred die with the perfect value for your strongest action arrives. You use it for the final offering and unlock a blessing that gives you immediate victory points and a permanent bonus. The others realize you have built a devotional engine that is hard to stop.
Final scoring
Points are totaled. Whoever balanced territorial expansion and Divine Favor wins. Those who ignored the gods pay the price. Those who invested too much in religion without building the rest fall behind. Balance is required, as always in Minos.

Not standalone
Requires the base game Minos: Dawn of the Bronze Age to play. If you don't own it, this expansion is meaningless. If, however, you already know Minos and want to delve deeper, Dawn of Faith is designed for you.
Increases time and complexity
It adds an extra strategic layer: the Divine Favor track and new abilities require extra planning. Games last 15–20 minutes longer and the learning curve rises slightly. Those who already found Minos heavy might feel it even more.
Few BGG data points available
The game was released in 2025 and currently has fewer than 100 votes on BoardGameGeek. Ratings are positive but limited. It is a first read, not a consolidated verdict. This profile will update with community feedback.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the finale rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The expansion does not change the victory conditions of the base game, but adds new paths to accumulate points.
Victory
- Whoever accumulates the most total victory points at the end of the fourth round wins. Divine Favor contributes with immediate points and permanent bonuses.
- Climbing the Favor track before others unlocks exclusive rewards: those who arrive first at the highest steps gain more.
- The new Decree cards and personal abilities allow for powerful combos: those who build the right tableau can multiply points from divine offerings.
Elimination or defeat
- Those who completely ignore Divine Favor lose an entire strategic dimension and fall behind in points.
- Those who invest too much in religion without building cities, trade, and military defenses find themselves with an incomplete engine.
- Those who arrive late to the Favor track find the best bonuses already taken by opponents and must settle for scraps.
Dawn of Faith is for those who already loved Minos and want a reason to return to Crete. It is an expansion that completes, it doesn't revolutionize. And that is exactly what is needed.
