WHAT IT IS ABOUT
A dinosaur race where the winner is whoever reads the moment best
Raptor Race is a family game by Inon Kohn, illustrated by Yaniv Shimoni and published by FlexiQ Games in 2024. The theme is simple and immediate: six raptors race towards the finish line in a prehistoric landscape, and you have to bet on which ones will come in first.
At the table, you roll the dice and choose which raptor to move. But you don't control just one dinosaur: your goal is to have your three favorite raptors in the right positions when the first one crosses the finish line. You need to balance what you move, what others do, and when to stop.
What they say abroad
Rules in 2 minutes, games in 20, laughs all evening.
— FroGames
Kids get it right away. Adults take three turns to realize that moving the same raptor isn't enough.

Raptor Race
Components
What you find in the box
Six colorful raptors
Each dinosaur has its color and runs on its own. They all share the same path, but you only bet on three.
Movement dice
Each roll determines which raptors you can move. The result is shared: everyone sees what comes up and must react.
Race track
A linear path where raptors advance step by step. Simple, immediate, without special squares or complications.
Betting cards
Everyone secretly chooses their three favorite raptors and the final positions they want for them. Your score depends on how accurate you are.
In twenty minutes you'll know if you read the race well or if you pushed the wrong raptor. And you'll immediately want to try again.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The secret bet
Everyone chooses their three favorite raptors and the final position they hope for them. No one knows what others have chosen. Someone bets on the green raptor first, someone on the red third. The tension starts here.
The first rolls
The dice start rolling and the raptors move. Someone pushes their favorite, someone tries to block others'. Positions change with each turn and you start to understand who is betting on what.
The critical overtake
One raptor overtakes another and someone at the table gasps. That move either ruined their bet or saved it. Timing becomes everything: moving too early or too late costs points.
The last mile
A raptor is two squares from the finish line. Everyone tries to position their dinosaurs in the right places before it ends. Someone sacrifices a raptor to push another, someone hopes that others move the wrong one.
The final podium
The first raptor crosses the finish line and the race stops. Everyone reveals their bets and counts the points. Someone got everything right, someone was off by one position. And immediately the request comes: "One more?"
How to play
The flow of each turn
The game flows very quickly: roll the dice, choose a raptor, move it. Then it's the next player's turn.
The current player rolls the dice. The results show which raptors can move this round. Everyone sees the result.
Among the raptors shown on the dice, choose which one to move. You can push your favorite forward, or move someone else's to ruin their bet.
The chosen raptor advances one square along the track. If it reaches or crosses the finish line, the game ends immediately.
The dice pass to the next player. The flow is continuous: no downtime, no waiting. The game flows until someone crosses the finish line.
Why it's different from others
Six elements that make a difference
You don't control just one raptor
You don't have one dinosaur to push to victory. You choose three and must position them in the right places at the right time. You have to balance instead of blindly racing.
The dice are shared
Each roll shows everyone which raptors can move. You don't have absolute control: you have to work with what comes up and what others do.
The bets are secret
No one knows which raptors you've chosen until the game ends. You have to read others' moves to understand who is betting on what, and adapt your strategy.
Sudden end
The game ends as soon as a raptor crosses the finish line. You don't know when it will happen: you have to be ready to close your bets before it's too late.
Zero downtime
Turns are very fast: roll, choose, move, pass. There are no complex phases, long calculations, or waiting. The game flows without interruptions.
Accessible but not trivial
The rules can be explained in two minutes even to six-year-olds. But the game rewards those who observe, anticipate, and read others instead of moving randomly.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The game ends when the first raptor crosses the finish line. At that point, everyone reveals their bets and counts the points.
Victory
- You guess the final positions of your three secretly chosen raptors
- You earn points based on how close the actual positions are to what you predicted
- The player with the most points, achieved by balancing their three dinosaurs in the right positions, wins
Defeat
- Your raptors finish in positions far from what you bet on
- Other players read the race better and positioned their dinosaurs with more precision
- You moved too early or too late and the finish line came at the wrong time for you
Raptor Race is a perfect filler for those looking for a fast, light, and accessible game for everyone without sacrificing tactical decisions.
Frequently asked questions
Raptor Race FAQ
Is it really as fast as they say?
Yes. The rules can be explained in less than five minutes, even to small children. A game lasts about twenty minutes, including setup. It's perfect as a filler or an appetizer before a longer game.
Does it work well with small children?
It works great from six years old and up. Children immediately understand the mechanics (roll the dice, move a raptor) and enjoy seeing who comes first. Adults add a layer of tactics by reading others' moves.
Is there strategy or is it just luck?
There's more tactics than it seems. The dice introduce randomness, but you choose which raptor to move each turn. You have to balance your three dinosaurs, read others' bets, and decide when to push or when to block. It's not deep, but it rewards observation.
Is it suitable for adults without children too?
It depends on what you're looking for. If you want a light and fast filler to start or end the evening, it works. If you're looking for strategic depth or complex mechanics, this is not the right game.
Is the edition for sale in Italian?
Yes, the edition distributed by FlexiQ Games is completely in Italian: rulebook, cards, and components. The game is almost language-independent (the dice and raptors have no text), but the manual is translated.
