Roll the dice, place the blocks, fill the grid. Alone against the clock or face-to-face: the one who thinks — and fits — fastest wins.
What it's about
Roll the dice, fill the grid, beat your opponent
The Genius Square is the puzzle game by The Happy Puzzle Company, powered by SmartGames, awarded game of the year. It can be played solo or by two players, side by side, on the exact same grid: a race of speed and ingenuity that lasts a few minutes and can be replayed infinitely.
Its operation is ingenious in its simplicity: you roll the 7 dice, which indicate seven coordinates on the 6×6 grid. You place a block on each rolled square, then the race begins: fill all remaining squares with the 9 colored pieces. The first to complete the grid wins and moves to the next level.
The magic of The Genius Square lies in the numbers: the dice generate 62,208 different combinations and — computer-verified — each one always has at least one solution, often many. Five difficulty levels, from 6 years and up. It trains logic, problem-solving, spatial intuition, and speed. No dead ends: just the satisfaction of fitting the last piece.
The dice create the challenge, they don't solve it. You and your opponent start from the exact same grid: what makes the difference is not luck, but who sees the fits faster.
The secret of The Genius Square in one line
62,208 combinations, all computer-verified: each has at least one solution, on average almost two thousand. There is no impossible game — only the one you haven't solved yet.
From the game experience
The Genius Square
On the table
What you have in your hands
7 dice
They are rolled all together and indicate seven coordinates (from A1 to F6). They generate the ever-changing challenge.
7 blocks
They are placed on the squares indicated by the dice. They block the way and define the space you need to fill.
9 colored pieces
Different shapes, in the style of wooden tetrominos. They must all be fitted to cover every empty square on the grid.
The 6×6 grid
The field to be completed. You'll find two in the box: one for you and one for your challenger, identical in every round.
Last piece in hand, one square free, the opponent's gaze searching for the same thing: and you fit it first. It always happens with The Genius Square.

A game in five moments
What happens when you play
Not the rules. The experience.
Roll the seven dice
Take all seven dice and roll them together. Seven coordinates come up, from A1 to F6: this is today's grid, one of 62,208 possible. You've never seen it before — and you won't easily see it again.
Place the seven blocks
Place a block on each square indicated by the dice. If two people are playing, you and your opponent have the exact same arrangement: absolute equality. Now only the space to fill remains.
Go! The race begins
Hands on the pieces: you fit the first, then the second, trying to get all nine shapes in. You hear your opponent pushing their pieces next to you. Your heart quickens.
Only one piece left
On the table there's one piece and one hole that don't match. You turn it, you try it elsewhere, you disassemble two shapes and redo them. You know the solution is there — and that you're missing it by a second.
"Done!"
The last piece slides into place and the grid is full: you've won the round. A new roll, maybe up a level, and you start again. "Just one more, the last one" — but no.
How to play
Four steps, a handful of minutes
It's explained in half a minute and played in a flash. No manual: roll, block, fill, restart. Alone or with two players.
All together. Each die shows a grid coordinate, from A1 to F6.
Place a block on each of the seven squares that came up. For two players, each player prepares their identical grid.
Fit the 9 colored pieces into every free square. In a race against an opponent or, in solo play, against the clock.
Once the grid is complete, you've solved it. In a duel, the first to finish wins; then you roll again, perhaps at a higher level.
Why it works so well
Six things that make it special
62,208 combinations
The seven dice generate over 62,000 different arrangements, all computer-verified: each has at least one solution, on average almost two thousand. You practically never see the same grid.
Lightning-fast games
A round lasts a few minutes. It's the perfect game for "just one more" continuously, for downtime, for travel and for filling a break with a brain boost.
Solo or in a duel
Two grids in the box: challenge someone head-to-head on the same arrangement, or play alone against the clock. One game, two experiences.
Learned in 30 seconds
Roll, block, fill: from age 6 you'll get it instantly. Zero entry barriers, but enough depth to make adults sweat too.
5 difficulty levels
From the simplest to Genius level: as you go up, some shapes can no longer touch each other laterally. The challenge grows and the race becomes more strategic.
Award-winning and travel-friendly
Game and toy of the year, by The Happy Puzzle Company and powered by SmartGames. Compact and sturdy: you can take it anywhere.
How to win
Fill the grid. And know that there's always a way.
In a duel, it's a pure race; in solo play, it's a challenge against the clock and yourself. In both cases, the goal is one: fit all the pieces before giving up.
Victory
- Fill every empty square with all 9 pieces
- In a duel, the first to complete the grid wins
- Then you roll again: the first to finish moves up a level
Never a dead end
- Every block arrangement always has a solution
- On average almost two thousand different ways to fill the grid
- You never get stuck: the way is there, it just needs to be found quickly
The Genius Square is one of those games you take out "for a quick game" and put away half an hour later, wanting to beat your time or get revenge. It's learned in an instant, never gets old.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about The Genius Square
The dice decide everything: isn't it just luck?
No. The dice are used only to establish where the blocks go, that is, to create the challenge. The solution, however, is all skill: how you fit the nine pieces depends only on you. And in a duel, both players start with the exact same grid, so the winner is whoever thinks and fits the pieces fastest, not whoever rolls best.
62,208 combinations: is it marketing or is it really re-playable?
It's a real and verifiable fact. The seven dice produce exactly 62,208 block arrangements and, thanks to a program that tested them all, it is confirmed that each has at least one solution (on average almost two thousand). In practice, you'll never see the same grid: it's one of the most re-playable games out there.
Can you play alone?
Yes. The Genius Square works great solo: you challenge yourself against the clock or relax finding the solution at your leisure. The box also contains two complete grids, so you can switch to a duel whenever you want without buying anything extra.
Ages 6 and up: is it too easy for an adult?
The rules are very simple, but the challenge is not. Beneath the speed lies a real spatial puzzle, and the five difficulty levels — where some shapes can no longer touch each other laterally — raise the bar. Among adults, the race becomes a matter of nerves and speed: far from trivial.
How long does a game last?
A single round finishes in a few minutes, often less. It's designed to be fast: one challenge leads to another, and it's easy to chain ten in a row. Perfect as a filler, while traveling or after dinner.
Do I need to know English?
No. The game is practically language-independent: the dice show coordinates (letters A–F and numbers 1–6) and everything else is visual and manual. The rules are learned in a minute and no text needs to be read to play.
