Dice Throne · Hero Pack Pyromancer
Hits like a wildfire and holds up like a sheet of paper. Either you shut her down quickly, or you're left in the ashes: with her, there are no long games.
What it's about
The best defense is a wildfire
The Dice Throne Hero Pack Pyromancer is the glass cannon of the series: massive damage, non-existent resistance. She has no Plan B, no guard to raise. She has fire, and the certainty that if it burns fast enough, she won't have to defend against anything. Designed by Nate Chatellier, Gavan Brown, and Manny Trembley, it's a single hero pack for the Dice Throne system.
The core of the character is the Fire Mastery token: you accumulate up to five, but lose one each turn. The more fire you keep burning, the more your abilities hurt — Hot Streak, Ignite, and the Ultimate Scorch the Earth! all scale with the number of tokens you have at that moment. Every turn is one question: do I accumulate more, or do I unleash now?
Be aware of one thing: the Pyromancer has a complexity of 3 out of 6 on the official Dice Throne scale; she's not a first-game hero like the Barbarian. She has a resource to manage and timing to learn. In return, when she explodes, no opponent can stand their ground.

Your arsenal
What you bring to the Mad King's arena
The fire dice
Five custom dice with flames, embers, and arcane symbols. Up to three rolls per turn: keep what you need, reroll the rest.
The hero board
Fireball, Burning Soul, Combustion, Hot Streak, Ignite, Molten Armor. And finally Scorch the Earth!, the Ultimate that cannot be prevented.
The dedicated deck
Fire Up!, Red Hot, Warm Up!, Huzzah! and the others: cards to be paid with combat points to fuel the fire and manipulate the dice.
Fire Mastery and Burn
Accumulate up to 5 Fire Mastery tokens but lose one per turn: the more fire you keep burning, the more damage you deal. Meanwhile, Burn scorches the opponent with each of their upkeep phases.
"I just want to watch the world burn." Then someone counts the damage and nobody speaks for a few seconds.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Fifty life points that seem few
I open the board, set up the counter, take the five fire dice. I have the same life points as everyone else, but I already know mine will last less. It doesn't matter. The idea is that the game ends sooner.
I light the fire and let it burn
First turn: I could attack, but I accumulate Fire Mastery. Second turn: two tokens, almost three. The opponent hits me, and I take it with a smile, while they start to wonder why I'm not reacting.
Burn, Knockdown, and their turn vanishes
I set them on fire: now they lose life points every upkeep, without me doing anything. Then I knock them down. They have to pay to get up, or they skip the attack phase. They skip it. The fire continues to burn.
Scorch the Earth!
Five symbols on the five dice. Heavy damage, Knockdown, Burn — and collateral damage to everyone else at the table, even those not involved. There's no way to prevent it. Some laugh, some don't.
Eight life points. But theirs are zero.
I end the game with health on the brink of nothing — as always, with the Pyromancer. Twenty-two minutes and we're already shuffling decks. This time, they want to try her. I understand perfectly.
How to play
The flow of each turn
Four phases that flow in less than two minutes. You learn by watching a turn, you master it by the third game.
Resolve active effects: here the Pyromancer "cools down" by losing a Fire Mastery token, and here the ignited opponent takes Burn damage. Then draw a card and gain one combat point.
Spend combat points: permanently upgrade a board ability or play cards like Fire Up! and Warm Up! to fuel the fire before rolling.
Roll the five dice up to three times. The combination activates an ability — and the damage from Hot Streak, Ignite, and Scorch the Earth! increases based on how many Fire Mastery tokens you have active at that moment.
Last cards, last upgrades, discard excess hand. Then pass the dice and hope Molten Armor holds: the Pyromancer's defense returns fire, but almost never saves you.
Why choose the Pyromancer
Six reasons to bring her to the arena
Fire Mastery: a resource that fades
You accumulate up to 5 tokens, but you lose one every upkeep. Every turn you have to decide: do I keep fueling the fire or do I unleash it now? This choice defines the character.
Burn: damage that comes without you
Anyone ignited loses life points every upkeep, persistently. You light the fire once, and it keeps working even while you're defending.
Knockdown and Stun: cancelled turns
You don't just reduce the opponent's damage: you completely remove their ability to deal it. Anyone knocked down must pay to get back up, anyone stunned does nothing — and you attack again.
Scorch the Earth!, the Ultimate
Fire Mastery, Knockdown, Burn, and heavy damage in one hit, plus collateral damage to all opponents at the table. Ultimates cannot be prevented in any way.
The glass cannon that keeps you awake
You deal massive damage and take just as much. No other hero in the series forces you to play so close to the brink — and that's exactly why she's chosen.
Compatible with the entire series
Face any Dice Throne: Season One, Season Two, Marvel Dice Throne hero. Her historical rival is the Shadow Thief, poison against fire.
How it ends
One way to win. One to burn.
No scores, no final counts. You fight until someone runs out of life points — and with the Pyromancer, it always happens quickly, one way or another.
Victory
- Reduce the opponent's life points to zero — or the last one standing
- In 2v2, the team that eliminates both enemy heroes wins
- With the Pyromancer, victory is achieved by lighting the fire early and unleashing it at the right moment
Defeat
- Your life points reach zero: you're out of the arena
- Defense is the weak point — if the game drags on, you usually lose
- There's no consolation, but no waiting either: the rematch starts in two minutes
Add the Pyromancer to your arena if you enjoy winning by a hair's breadth, with two life points left and the table ablaze. Remember: you need at least two Hero Packs to fight.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Dice Throne Hero Pack Pyromancer
Can I play with this Hero Pack alone?
No, and it's best to say so immediately. The Pyromancer Hero Pack contains everything needed for a single hero: to fight, you need at least a second Hero Pack (or a Dice Throne box you already own). It's not a base box: it's designed for those who already have the system, or for those building it one hero at a time.
Is it true that she's a "low complexity" hero?
No, and it's fair to be honest: the official description uses the same wording for all Hero Packs. On the Dice Throne scale, the Pyromancer is complexity 3 out of 6 — the Barbarian is 1, the Moon Elf is 2. She has a resource to manage (Fire Mastery) and a timing to learn. She's not difficult, but she's not the hero to teach the game to someone who's never seen it before.
Doesn't being a glass cannon make her weak?
It makes her risky, which is another thing. She takes a lot of damage and has modest defense: if the game drags on, you're in trouble. But her damage is among the highest in the series, and Burn continues to work even outside your turn. She's a character that rewards those who are willing to play on the edge — if you prefer to feel safe, pick the Paladin.
Is she compatible with other Dice Throne heroes?
Yes, with all of them. Dice Throne heroes are designed to face each other across the board: Season One, Season Two, and Marvel Dice Throne can be freely mixed, in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 2v2v2, or free-for-all. Her original rival is the Shadow Thief.
How many players can play, and how long does a game last?
The Dice Throne system supports 2 to 6 players — 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 2v2v2, or free-for-all — provided you have one Hero Pack for each participant. A battle lasts about 30 minutes, and it's rare to stop after the first. Note that the Pyromancer's Ultimate also hits opponents you're not attacking: in a free-for-all, it makes her a very popular target.
Is it available in Italian?
This is the English edition. The text on the board and cards is in English, but the language is repetitive and highly iconic: after one game, the symbols are self-explanatory. Basic English is needed to play without hesitation.
