What it's about
America's favorite golf, in a deck of cards
In 2004, Ceil Anderson and Kathy Assell turned golf into a card game and founded Double A Productions to publish it. Since then, Play Nine has become a small phenomenon in the United States — sold directly, passed from hand to hand on vacation and among families, and never localized into any language. In Italy, it's still a secret waiting to be discovered.
The rule is that of golf: the one with the lowest score wins. Each player builds their own grid of face-down cards, draws, discards, and replaces. Two identical numbers in the same column cancel each other out. Cards range from -5 (hole-in-one) to +12 (out of bounds), and after nine holes, the scores are tallied.
Golfers and non-golfers alike end up fighting over the last card. It's learned in a minute, plays fast, and everything changes with each hole — it's the filler that brings kids, parents, and friends together at the end of the evening.
