Cassandra opens rifts, reads the future, and folds time. And you find yourself planning three turns ahead while the table tries to figure out what you just did.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
The fortune teller who folds space and time
Cassandra is the spiritual heir to Gloomhaven: Forgotten Circles, the now out-of-print expansion that introduced the Diviner class. Designed by Marcel Dragomir with artwork by Alexandr Elichev, this mercenary brings new life to that design: planar rifts to slow and hinder enemies, divination to manipulate the deck and predict others' moves.
At the table, you play with time and space. Your cards allow you to open rifts that modify the board, read the future of the party and monsters, and build devastating setups that activate two turns later. It requires medium-term planning and excellent field reading. If Gloomhaven is already tactical for you, with Cassandra it becomes a temporal puzzle.
What they say abroad
Cassandra transforms tactical into strategic. Every card is a hypothesis about the future.

Gloomhaven: Mercenary Pack – Cassandra, Forgotten Diviner
Gloomhaven is designed for solo play, and Cassandra confirms this. Total control of time and space becomes even more precise without group coordination: you build perfect setups, manipulate the deck calmly, and read enemies without interruption. The experience is complete, and for some players, it's the best way to tackle this mercenary.
Your planar arsenal
What you bring to the table with Cassandra
Planar Rifts
Open rifts on the board that block enemy movements, modify distances, and slow attacks. Each rift is a spatial trap that reshapes the field.
Divination Cards
Read enemy deck cards, manipulate your deck's order, and predict opponents' moves. Divination gives you information others don't have.
Delayed-fuse setups
Prepare actions that activate two or three turns later. Position rifts, read the future, and build a temporal trap that explodes at the right moment.
Multi-use tactical deck
Each card has at least two uses, some three. Hand management is crucial: choose what to burn now and what to keep for the scenario's finale.
After a few scenarios, you'll have learned to bend time. And the table will have realized that with Cassandra, you win three turns before they even notice.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The first rift
You open the first planar rift and the table falls silent. "What does that thing do?" You smile: in two turns, they'll understand. Meanwhile, you study the enemy deck and read the next three cards. You start seeing the future.
Build the trap
You place the second rift, manipulate the order of your deck, prepare a combo that will activate in three rounds. The party advances, you stay behind weaving invisible threads. Someone asks if you're doing anything useful. You nod. They're about to find out.
The plan activates
Round three: the enemy enters the zone you predicted. The rift activates, the card you bent explodes, the enemy deck draws exactly the card you read. Everything collapses at the right moment. The table applauds.
The critical die
You've planned everything. The rifts are positioned, the party is coordinated, the divination has read the future. Then an enemy draws a critical hit you couldn't have foreseen, and the temporal trap unravels. You improvise. For Cassandra, that's the hardest part.
Scenario end
Boss defeated, treasure collected, experience counted. The party discusses what you've done. You think back to the three setups you prepared and the two you didn't use. Next time you'll try the other approach. With Cassandra, there's always another approach.
How to play
The flow of each round with Cassandra
Cassandra follows the standard Gloomhaven rules, but her gameplay unfolds over multiple turns.
You choose two cards from your hand, determine initiative. With Cassandra, you plan not only this turn but the next two: which cards to burn now, which to keep for the final setup.
You move on the board and place planar rifts. Each rift modifies distances, blocks enemy movements, creates controlled zones. Placement is everything: a poorly placed rift is a wasted card.
You attack, support the party, manipulate the deck. Divination cards allow you to read the enemy deck, reorder your deck, predict future initiatives. Information you turn into tactical advantage.
The rifts you placed two turns ago activate. The prepared combos explode. The party discovers what you've been building. And you start planning the next layer.
Why it's different from the others
Six mechanics that make a difference
Persistent planar rifts
They are not temporary tokens: they are permanent control zones that modify the board until you remove them or until the scenario ends. Each rift changes distances, slows down enemies, creates tactical corridors. Placing them well means dominating the field for the entire scenario.
True divination
You don't roll to predict: you actually read the next cards in the enemy deck, reorder your deck, manipulate future initiative. The information you get is certain, not probable. And this certainty allows you to build infallible plans.
Delayed-effect setup
Many cards activate not when you play them but two or three turns later. You place a temporal trap, predict where the enemy will be, prepare the combo. When it explodes, the table understands what you've been doing all along.
Long-term planning
With other classes, you think one turn ahead. With Cassandra, you think three scenarios ahead: which cards to burn now, which to keep for the boss, how to manage fatigue for the last two rounds. Every decision has consequences that you discover half an hour later.
Complex multi-use cards
Each card has at least two functions, some three. Top action, bottom action, persistent effect. Choosing what to use and when is a puzzle in itself. And making a mistake means losing entire setups.
Legacy of Forgotten Circles
This Mercenary Pack brings back the spirit of the Diviner, Gloomhaven's most cerebral class. New design, same heart: planar manipulation, temporal control, complexity that rewards those who plan. If you missed Forgotten Circles, Cassandra is coming home.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
With Cassandra, victory or defeat depends on your ability to read the future and prepare.
Victory
- You complete the scenario objective with rifts perfectly positioned and combos activated at the right moment
- You manipulate the enemy deck and your deck so that you reach the boss with key cards still available
- The party survives thanks to the delayed-effect setups you prepared three turns ago
Defeat
- You run out of cards before completing the scenario because you burned key actions too early
- A critical enemy die destroys the temporal plan you built and the party collapses
- You place the rifts incorrectly and the field becomes a labyrinth that hinders the party instead of the enemies
Cassandra is not just a class. She is an intellectual challenge within Gloomhaven. If you want to take tactics to another level, this is your mercenary.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Gloomhaven: Mercenary Pack – Cassandra, Forgotten Diviner
Can I use Cassandra in any Gloomhaven campaign?
Yes. Mercenary Packs are compatible with all versions of Gloomhaven: the base game, Jaws of the Lion, Frosthaven, Crimson Scales. Cassandra integrates as a playable character at any point in the campaign. Remember that she is designed to be a complex class, so she is better suited for players with experience in the system.
How difficult is it to play Cassandra compared to other classes?
She is among the most complex. She requires medium-term planning, careful hand management, deep field reading, and the ability to build setups that activate two or three turns later. If this is your first Gloomhaven experience, it's better to start with a more straightforward class. If you've already played 10+ scenarios, Cassandra is the perfect challenge.
Are planar rifts compatible with existing boards?
Yes. Rifts are placed on Gloomhaven's standard hexagonal grid. They do not require additional components beyond those in the base game. The pack includes all the cards, tokens, and instructions needed to play Cassandra right away.
Does Cassandra replace the Diviner from Forgotten Circles?
Spiritually yes, technically no. Cassandra is inspired by the Diviner and incorporates its divination and planar control mechanics, but she is a new character with an updated design and modern balancing. Forgotten Circles is out of print: this Mercenary Pack brings that gameplay back into the current Gloomhaven ecosystem.
Is it available in Italian?
This Mercenary Pack is in English edition. It includes cards with English text and an English manual. A good understanding of the language is necessary to play Cassandra, as the mechanics of divination and temporal control require precise reading of effects. There is currently no official Italian edition.
