1) Every pirate has a secret team, but no one really knows who to trust.
At the beginning each player receives a cardSecret Faction(English, French or sometimes a Solitaire): The goal is to accumulate treasure for your faction, not for whoever is next to you on the bridge.
The problem is thateveryone lies, no one can openly declare their loyalty andalliances change every turn.
2) The ship, the island and the galleon: three places, three different opportunities
During the game pirates can find themselves on themain ship, on theTortuga Island(marooned, therefore with less power), or on theSpanish galleonon the attack.
The available actions change depending on where you are, sothe physical position is also strategic and political.
3) The actions of the turn revolve around Events and information management
On the table there is a line of Event cardshidden informationMany cards are very useful, others are devastating to you and your faction.
Before revealing a card it is almost always betterspy on her, orto trust (or pretend to trust)of information received from other pirates.
In this gamethe truth costs more than gold.
4) Attacks, brawls and mutinies are resolved with shared Vote cards
When a collective action (Attack, Brawl or Mutiny) starts, the players involvedthey secretly select a voting card.
The result obtained depends on the combination of the votes revealed, and canfail operations, steal important roles, change captains or even send you to Tortugaas punishment.
Every voting card is precious:Using it at the wrong time can give victory to the enemy faction.
5) End of game and victory
The game ends when there are no more actions left to change the situation or when the end of the Event deck is reached.
The factions are revealed and checkedWhich team has the most treasures?.
If they existlone traitors, sometimes they can even win alone, making the outcome even more unpredictable.
