FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
In the end, someone will have painted the most beautiful sky. But while it's happening, no one speaks. Everyone observes, chooses, composes. And when it's over, that mural remains, telling what you've seen.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A spatial puzzle that becomes art
Star Gazers is designed by J.B. Howell and Don Riddle, illustrated by Vincent Dutrait (Kemet, Bunny Kingdom, Lewis & Clark). Published by 25th Century Games, the game puts you in the shoes of space enthusiasts who observe the universe through a telescope and transform each discovery into a wall mural. Photographs of planets, traced constellations, rocket launches: each element becomes part of a personal work.
Each turn you select tiles and tokens from a common board representing the night sky. Then you place them in your personal mural, creating connections, completing patterns, and fulfilling objectives you chose in the draft. The winner is the one who builds the most harmonious and complete mural, balancing visual beauty and tactical points.

Star Gazers
What you observe
The elements of your mural
Observation Tiles
Each tile represents a portion of the sky: planets, stars, nebulae. You place them in the mural, creating connections that activate bonuses and complete objectives. Placement matters as much as selection.
Constellation Tokens
You trace constellations on your mural by connecting specific points. Each completed constellation gives you points and unlocks extra actions. The path is geometric, almost zen.
Objective Cards
In the draft phase, you choose which objectives to pursue: some reward symmetrical patterns, others diversity of elements, still others speed. Each game has different priorities.
Space Photographs
They represent iconic moments: a launch, an eclipse, a cometary passage. Adding them to the mural costs, but they are worth fixed points and add visual narrative to your composition.

In the end, you'll have a mural that tells what you've seen in the sky. And each time it will be different.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choosing objectives
Draft objective cards. Everyone chooses what they want to build: symmetrical patterns, multiple constellations, diverse elements. Right away, you understand the path you'll take. Some play it safe, some aim for the impossible mural.
The first tiles
The central board is full of possibilities. Everyone looks, evaluates, hesitates. Then someone picks up the first tile and places it. The mural begins to take shape. No one knows yet if that choice was the right one.
The silent competition
Mid-game, the murals start to diverge. Someone focused on constellations, someone on rare photographs, someone on a perfect geometric pattern. You look at the board and realize: the tile you wanted was taken by someone else.
The perfect moment
You place a tile that connects three elements, completes a constellation, and activates two objectives simultaneously. The table notices. No one says anything, but everyone saw. That placement was beautiful.
The final count
The murals are complete. Everyone has created something different: symmetrical, chaotic, dense, airy. Points are tallied for objectives, constellations, connections. But before declaring the winner, someone snaps a picture of the murals. Because they were truly beautiful.
How to play
The flow of each round
Each turn is a simple cycle: observe the sky, choose what to take, place it in your mural.
In turn, each player chooses a tile or token from the central universe board. What you take determines what you can build in your mural.
Add the element to your personal mural, respecting adjacency and connection rules. Each placement can activate immediate bonuses or bring you closer to your objectives.
If you complete a constellation, a set of photographs, or a specific objective, you immediately score points or activate special abilities. Timing is everything.
The central board is refilled with new tiles and tokens. The cycle restarts. Availability changes continuously, forcing tactical adaptations.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make a difference
Art by Vincent Dutrait
Every tile is a piece of art. Vincent Dutrait has created a visual universe that makes each mural unique and photographable. It's not just functional: it's beautiful to look at, and this changes how you perceive the game.
Layered pattern building
You don't just build patterns: you build connections between tiles, overlapping constellations, photographic sets. Each element interacts with others in multiple ways. One placement can satisfy three different objectives if you plan well.
Variable objectives in draft
Each game starts by choosing which objectives to pursue. This means that your strategy changes radically from game to game. There isn't one optimal build: it depends on what you've chosen and what others choose.
Continuous tactical balancing
You must balance short-term objectives (completing a constellation now) and long-term objectives (building the perfect pattern). Every turn is a decision between safety and ambition. And other players influence what is available.
Integrated theme
It's not a pure abstract with a tacked-on theme. The mechanics reflect the experience of astronomical observation: you choose what to look at, document discoveries, compose a visual archive. The theme works.
Scalable duration
20-40 minutes means you can play a quick game or extend the experience with variants and advanced objectives. The duration adapts to the table without losing depth. Ideal as a strategic filler or main event for a family game night.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The game ends when everyone has completed their murals. Then points are counted.
Victory
- Points from completed objectives (those you drafted at the beginning)
- Points from traced constellations and constructed geometric patterns
- Bonuses from spatial photographs integrated into the mural
How to lose
- You chose overly ambitious objectives and didn't complete them
- Others took key tiles before you
- Your mural is beautiful but inefficient: many elements, few points
Star Gazers is the game for those who want an elegant, quick puzzle that leaves something beautiful on the table. It's not just strategy: it's composition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Star Gazers FAQ
Is it suitable for casual players?
Yes. The rules can be explained in 10 minutes, and the first game is already smooth. The depth emerges after 2-3 games, when you start to see the synergies between objectives and patterns. Perfect as a strategic gateway game for families or for introducing friends to pattern building.
How much does player interaction matter?
Interaction is indirect but present. You compete for the same tiles on the central board, so what you take influences others' options. There's no direct attack or sabotage, but the race for the best tiles creates tactical tension. It's civil competition, not conflict.
Does replayability hold up after many games?
Yes. The variable objectives and initial draft change priorities every time. Even with the same people, each game requires different strategies. After 10+ games, you'll know the combos well, but this increases tactical depth instead of decreasing interest.
Does it work well with 2 players?
It works, but the game shines with 3-4. With 2, there's less competition for tiles, and the draft is less interesting. It remains a good puzzle, but loses some of its tactical tension. If you're looking for a game primarily for 2, there are better options in the catalog.
Is it available in Italian?
This edition is in English. The text on the cards is minimal (names of objectives and constellations) and easily understandable. The rulebook is in English, but the linguistic complexity is low. With a group that has a basic understanding of English, the game is very accessible.
