The FroGames page
Tonight it's just you, Sinbad, and the Book. You draw a Quest card, turn the page, follow the number. Then you find yourself cursed, rich, or married to someone you don't know.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
Finally you can play Tales of the Arabian Nights alone
This expansion adds everything needed to play Tales of the Arabian Nights (West End or Z-Man editions pre-2025) solo: a dedicated storybook, over 50 Quest/Treasure/Status cards, and Milestone tokens. It's not an automa that simulates opponents — it's a structured mission system specifically designed for the solo experience.
Instead of competing against other players, you accumulate Destiny and Story points through progressive milestone objectives. Each Quest gives you a narrative direction (find a legendary item, free a city, conquer a title) and the Book responds to your choices exactly as in the base game, but with paragraphs and branching paths designed for a personal campaign. The result: a Thousand and One Nights all your own.
What they say abroad
"This Kit answers the question we've been asking for years: how do you play Tales solo while maintaining the magic of emergent stories?"
— Play to Z
This is a first read. The Kit will be released in April 2025, and reviews will follow. For now, we know that it adds narrative structure to the base game without distorting its soul: Quests guide, the Book surprises. We will update this page with real impressions as soon as someone actually plays it.

Tales of the Arabian Nights - 40th Anniversary - Solo Kit (Tales of the Arabian Nights: Solo-Only Content Pack)
Explicitly designed for solo play: the Kit includes a dedicated Quest Book with paragraphs and branching paths designed for a personal campaign. It doesn't simulate opponents — it gives you milestone objectives to achieve through your adventures. The experience is complete and faithful to the spirit of Tales.
What's in the box
The components of the Solo Kit
Quest Book
Softcover with solo rules and dedicated paragraphs. It works exactly like the main Tales Book, but each story is written to guide you through personal missions rather than towards victory against other players.
Quest, Treasure, Status Cards
Over 50 cards with backs compatible with the 40th Anniversary edition (not with older West End/Z-Man editions). Quests give you objectives, Treasures reward achievements, Statuses mark permanent changes to your character.
Milestone Tokens
Punchboard with markers to track your campaign's milestones. Each completed Milestone brings you closer to the end of the Quest — or opens up new narrative directions.
Base game required
This is an expansion Kit, not a standalone game. You need a copy of Tales of the Arabian Nights (any West End or Z-Man edition pre-2025) to play: board, pawns, main Book, Encounter cards.

How to Play
The flow of each turn
Each turn follows the classic Tales structure, but with Quest objectives instead of competitive victory points.
Choose a destination on the map (city, desert, sea). Movement is free as in the base game: you decide where to go based on the active Quest and the encounters you want to seek.
You arrive at the location and draw an Encounter card from the base Tales deck. Consult the Encounter/Ability matrix and find the paragraph number in the Quest Book (or the base book, depending on the situation).
Read the paragraph. It presents you with a situation and offers choices (use an Ability, roll a die, accept/reject). Follow the instructions: gain or lose Destiny/Story, take Treasure or Status cards, change Abilities. Each choice has narrative consequences.
Check if you have completed a Milestone objective of the active Quest (e.g., 'Gain 5 Destiny points', 'Visit 3 different cities', 'Obtain a specific Status'). If so, move the marker and draw rewards. When you complete all Milestones, the Quest ends and you count your points.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choose your Quest
You draw a Quest card. Read the objective: find the Lost Lamp, liberate the city of Samarkand, marry a caliph. You don't yet know how you'll get there, but now you have a direction. You place the Milestone marker on the first space and start moving on the map.
The first encounter deviates you
You arrive in a city. You draw an Encounter: Beggar. Consult the matrix, turn the page in the Quest Book. Read the paragraph. The beggar is a djinn in disguise and offers you a pact. Choose: accept or refuse? The choice changes your Ability or gives you a Status. The original Quest remains, but now you have a new narrative thread to follow.
Accumulate Destiny and Story
After three encounters, you have gained Destiny points (for heroic actions) and Story points (for absurd adventures). Check the Quest Milestones: you have completed one. You draw a Treasure card as a reward. But the main Quest is still far away, and the board is full of cities you haven't visited.
An event transforms you
You meet a Mage. The Book leads you to an unexpected paragraph: you are cursed. You take a negative Status card. Now you must find a way to remove it before completing the Quest, otherwise you lose final points. The story you were telling yourself has just become complicated.
Complete the Quest (or fail)
You have reached all the required Milestones. Read the final paragraph of the Quest: the city is free, the Lamp is yours, the caliph welcomes you. Count your Destiny and Story points: if you have passed the threshold, you have won. Otherwise, re-read your Status cards and understand where the story led you astray. In both cases, you have lived a unique fairy tale.

What to know beforehand
Three things to know
Base game required
This Kit is not standalone. You must own a copy of Tales of the Arabian Nights (West End or Z-Man, any edition pre-2025) to play: board, pawns, main Book, Encounter decks. The Kit only adds the solo components — it replaces nothing.
Cards incompatible with old editions
The Kit's cards have backs compatible with the 40th Anniversary edition (Z-Man 2019). If you have an older edition (West End 1985 or Z-Man 2009), the card backs will not match: you will need to sleeve them or keep them separate. The dimensions are standard, but the back colors are different.
Long and unpredictable games
A complete Quest lasts 90-180 minutes, and the duration depends on how much the Book deviates you. If you follow a direct line to the objectives, it's around 90 minutes. If you let yourself be sidetracked by narrative events (and it will happen), you'll easily reach 2-3 hours. This is not a filler.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
There is no elimination — each Quest has a threshold of Destiny and Story points to reach by the final Milestones.
Victory
- Complete all Milestones of the active Quest
- Reach or exceed the Destiny + Story points threshold required by the Quest
- Read the final victory paragraph and discover the epilogue of your story
Failure
- Complete the Milestones but do not reach the points threshold (the Quest fails)
- Some negative Status cards block the Quest's conclusion if not removed
- The Book can lead you to paragraphs of permanent defeat (death, eternal imprisonment)
Win or lose, in the end you have experienced a story that did not exist before. This is the heart of Tales: you don't optimize, you tell a story.

It is also compatible with older editions (West End 1985, Z-Man 2009), but the card backs will be different: you will need to sleeve them or keep them separate during play.
Does the Kit replace the base game or are both needed?

What mechanics does Tales of the Arabian Nights - Solo Kit use?
Narrative choice / paragraph (read paragraphs and choose from branching options), emergent storytelling (stories arise from your choices + random events), Quest management with progressive milestone objectives. If you let yourself be sidetracked by narrative events (and it will happen), you'll easily reach 2-3 hours. It's not a filler.
Is it available in Italian?
